Abstract

Abstract

The high population and development developments have an impact on decreasing the availability of land and waters for the fisheries and agricultural sectors. Another obstacle that people in coastal areas will encounter is the existence of land that is intruded by sea water, so that the process of cultivating fish and plants in one container is hampered. On the other hand, demand for food is increasing. This phenomenon encourages the emergence of cultivation innovations on limited land. Increasingly, efforts are being made to utilize limited land, such as the yard of the house, so that the family's food needs are met. Aquaponic cultivation is an effort to produce food that saves land use and increases the efficiency of nutrient utilization from food waste and fish metabolism. Extension activities and training on aquaponic systems need to be carried out among the community, including workers, households and students, so that people are able to meet their food needs, both from animals and vegetables. This program also aims to provide education about the importance of the benefits of eating fish and vegetables from an early age, especially among children. It is also hoped that this outreach and training program can open up business opportunities for the community. The result of this service activity is that students understand and are interested in carrying out aquaponic system cultivation activities.

Abstract

Avicennia, commonly known as mangrove plants, has been traditionally used to treat various diseases, including cancer, malaria, asthma, rheumatism, and ulcers. This genus possesses a range of unique secondary metabolites, belonging to various classes, which play a crucial role in numerous pharmacological activities, including the regulation of inflammation. Although many research articles have been published on the pharmacological properties of different species within this genus, no systematic review is yet available regarding their ethnomedicinal uses in the inflammatory process. This systematic review critically discusses studies on Avicennia species that exhibit anti-inflammatory effects, providing insights and guidance for future research on the plants as potential sources of new dietary supplements or medicinal agents. A literature search was conducted using internet databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and PubPharm, combining keywords like “Avicennia,” “inflammation,” and other related terms, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Research articles were included if they were experimental (in vitro and in vivo) studies on the anti-inflammatory effects of Avicennia species and published in either Bahasa or English between 2012 and 2024. Ten studies on the anti-inflammatory effects of Avicennia species were selected. The five species of the genus Avicennia examined in these studies are A. alba, A. marina, A. schaueriana, A. officinalis, and A. rumphiana. The anti-inflammatory effects of Avicennia were demonstrated by the inhibition of inflammatory cytokine production, nitric oxide production, and inflammation in animal models. Additionally, the secondary metabolites and antioxidant effects of Avicennia species are reported in the selected articles. The phytochemicals of several Avicennia species have been shown to exhibit strong anti-inflammatory effects. Further preclinical studies, including toxicity and pharmacokinetic assessments, are necessary before they can be considered for clinical trials. The genus Avicennia has great potential to be developed into medicinal agents for diseases related to inflammation.

Abstract

Coastal areas are considered biodiversity zones. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of land use on aquaculture productivity rate in coastal areas using a dynamic modeling analysis system. This study was conducted in the Pekalongan Province. Water quality parameters and qualitative research data were obtained from an in-depth survey. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using dynamic modeling analysis. The results of this study indicate that the level of coastal land use has a variable relationship with the productivity rate of aquaculture. Based on the causal loop model, it could be analyzed that the social, environmental conditions in coastal areas were described as continuing to experience quantification of population increase and environmental utilization rates. Overall, the productivity level of aquaculture cultivation in coastal areas tended to decrease along with the increasing value of productive land use accompanied by increased inputs and the number of human resource populations in coastal areas. The optimal inclusion of this study was that the optimal land use level would impact the productivity management level of aquaculture cultivation in coastal areas. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the optimal utilization of coastal land greatly impacted the management of the productivity level of aquaculture cultivation, which was carried out in an integrated manner. Furthermore, the analysis of the dynamic modeling system also illustrated the increasing social-environmental conditions in coastal land utilization.

Abstract

The flood disaster in the coastal area of Pekalongan City resulted in stagnant water, thus impacting the livelihoods of the community previously. The adaptation that has been made to deal with these conditions is by cultivating saline tilapia. Feed is the most important factor in supporting the growth of saline tilapia production. However, research on feed quality and frequency that has been carried out for tilapia production has not been optimal in obtaining the results obtained. This study aims to determine the effect of different feeding rates on growth performance, feed utilization and survival rate of tilapia reared in stagnant brackish water. The study consisted of feeding rates of 3%, 5%, 7% and 9% with three replications, and parameters were observed every seven days. Based on the research results it is known that the optimal feeding rate in saline tilapia culture ranges from 6.67% - 7% based on growth parameters. Although the other parameters do not show the same feeding rate as the growth parameter, these parameters are still in a good range for saline tilapia culture.
