Abstract

Introduction: Silvofishery is an innovative environmentally friendly aquatic cultivation concept that is currently widely developed in coastal areas with various cultivation commodities. The purpose of this research is to analyze the feasibility of saline tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) as a biological, ecological, and financial commodity for silvofishery cultivation. Methods: This research method utilized a causal ex-post facto design on four silvofishery ponds. The parameters studied include water quality, biological parameters of fish, plankton abundance, and financial feasibility parameters of the business. Results: The research results show that the weight of saline tilapia ranged from 3.01 to 21.24 gr/fish (13.37 ± 6.53) and biomass growth ranged from 3.010 to 19.116 kg (12.886 ± 7.79). Silvofishery water quality parameters resulted in pH data of 7.8-8.2 (8.0 ± 0.14), dissolved oxygen of 4.01-5.92 mg/L (4.90 ± 0.55), temperature of 31.00-32.75°C (31.80°C ± 0.60), salinity of 5-8 gr/L (6.3 ± 1.28), and organic matter of 54.32-73.87 mg/L (62.90 ± 6.33). Plankton abundance ranged from 10,000 to 90,000 cells/ml with the dominance of the genus Chlorella sp. The business feasibility analysis results showed a profit value of Rp. 8,840,000,-, R/C Ratio of 1.55, BEP unit of 297 kg, BEP sales of Rp. 4,428,000,-, profitability of 25%, Net Present Value of Rp. 101,528,000,-, IRR of 20.45%, and payback period of 2.7 years. Abstract

Vibrio sp. and plankton are important microorganisms in shrimp pond ecosystems. The research aims to predict the dynamics of Vibrio sp. and plankton abundance in intensive shrimp pond ecosystems based on causal model analysis. The research method used is an ex-pose facto causal design concept with quantitative descriptive data analysis using causal dynamic modeling. The results showed the water quality in the pond has a high correlation, except Vibrio sp. and alkalinity. In the pond ecosystem 24 genus of plankton from 6 classes. Chlorella sp. is the dominant plankton genus with an abundance of 1.00E+05-4.00E+05 cells/ml. Vibrio sp. abundance in ponds ranged from 1.38E+03 - 1.31E+05 CFU/ml. Based on the results of dynamic modelling, the growth pattern of Vibrio sp. lasted for 30 weeks which was divided into 4 growth phases. The conclusion of this study is that Vibrio sp. will dynamically experience a pure growth rate for 30 weeks with details of the initial growth phase (1-7 weeks), logarithmic growth phase (8-14 weeks), exponential phase (15-21 weeks), and growth declination phase (22-30 weeks). The growth phase of Vibrio sp. has a high degree of similarity to the growth pattern of plankton in the pond water ecosystem correlatively. The novelty of this research lies in the discovery of an estimation model for the abundance of Vibrio sp. and plankton during the shrimp farming cycle. This finding can serve as a fundamental reference for farmers to optimize feeding processes and conduct regular siphoning during the peak abundance of Vibrio sp. and plankton.

Abstract

The stable availability of dissolved oxygen in semi-intensive shrimp ponds plays a crucial role in the sustainability of the aquaculture system. The objective of this study is to determine the trend of the dissolved oxygen carrying capacity for waste absorption during shrimp farming in a semi-intensive system. The method used in this research is causal-ex-post facto research with data analysis using dynamic modeling systems. The results show that the water quality parameters tend to be stable, except for organic matter (51.82–115.02 mg/L). The semi-intensive shrimp farming system demonstrates relatively high harvest production, attributed to rapid shrimp growth despite limited feed management, resulting in profitable outcomes. Dynamic modeling reveals that increased biomass correlates with higher waste output, affecting the dissolved oxygen (DO) carrying capacity. Modeling also shows a moderate and fluctuating waste runoff pattern, indicating variable DO consumption. An important finding from this research is that we can control the water's carrying capacity for waste adsorption by determining the ideal cultivation system. The study concludes that DO carrying capacity follows a linear relationship with waste load; as waste increases, oxygen demand rises accordingly to support organic matter decomposition and ecosystem balance. These findings highlight the importance of managing waste to maintain optimal oxygen levels in semi-intensive systems. The conclusions of this research are important to be used as a source for coastal area management studies based on carrying capacity.

Abstract

The decline in rice productivity is attributed to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, which leads to soil saturation and adverse environmental impacts. The purpose of this community service is to implement an organic minapadi cultivation system as a strategy to increase agricultural productivity in Wonopringgo Village, Pekalongan Regency. The community service activity was carried out from June to August 2025, involving 24 partner farmers through observation, extension, and practical methods of creating organic minapadi cultivation demonstration plots. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in farmers' knowledge, experience, and awareness of the organic minapadi system. The number of farmers who understood the concept of minapadi increased from 5 to 22, while the understanding of organic farming rose from 2 to 20. In addition, all farmers gained direct experience through extension activities and field practice. An increase in knowledge of the benefits of minapadi was also seen, from previously only three farmers to 24 farmers who were aware of it. This confirms that the integrated extension approach is efficient in transferring knowledge to partners. Overall, the implementation of organic minapadi (rice-fish farming) in Wonopringgo Village not only provides ecological benefits in the form of improved soil fertility and pest control, but also increases economic opportunities through crop diversification. This activity has the potential to become a pilot model that can be replicated in other areas with similar agro-ecosystem conditions, while also supporting sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract

This investigation evaluated spatial and temporal variations in plankton abundance and community structure to determine their effectiveness as bioindicators of water quality in coastal rice-field ecosystems of Batang Regency, Central Java. Plankton samples were collected from five sampling stations using 80 mL film vials and subsequently identified through laboratory-based taxonomic analysis. Key physicochemical factors were measured ex situ, and the analyses evaluated plankton abundance, Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H’), evenness (e), dominance (C), and saprobic index. Results demonstrated relatively low plankton abundance, with Bacillariophyceae (40%), particularly Chaetoceros sp., representing the principal taxonomic group, followed by Chlorella sp. Moderate diversity levels (H’ = 1.45–2.85), high evenness (e > 0.6), and low dominance (C < 0.5) indicated a community structure with stable ecological dynamics. Most water quality parameters conformed to Indonesian water-quality criteria, characterized by a salinity of 0.5 g/L, temperatures of 23–24 °C, and dissolved-oxygen concentrations above 4.0 mg/L. However, the saprobic index revealed light to moderate pollution at stations near settlements and downstream river segments, likely influenced by domestic wastewater, agricultural runoff, and seawater intrusion. Overall, the ecosystem remained supportive of primary productivity, emphasizing the significance of plankton as sensitive indicators for monitoring coastal agricultural environments

Abstract

Mangrove forests are vital coastal ecosystems that support biodiversity and deliver key ecological services, particularly in tropical regions. In Pekalongan, Central Java, rapid coastal development and land-use change threaten their ecological integrity, particularly their role in carbon sequestration. This study assessed mangrove species richness, biomass, and carbon stock in both conservation and non-conservation areas to evaluate their ecological status and contribution to climate change mitigation. Six sampling sites, comprising protected and unprotected areas, were surveyed using 60 nested square plots to record tree and sapling populations. Biomass estimates, including above and below ground components, were calculated through specific allometric models. Results showed that conservation areas stored higher carbon (248.82 tC ha⁻¹) than non-conservation sites, though Degayu which an unprotected area had the second-highest carbon stock (159.66 tC ha⁻¹). Among species, Sonneratia alba contributed the most carbon, while dense saplings of Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera gymnorhiza suggest potential shifts in species dominance. The mean carbon stock (125.02 tC ha⁻¹, equivalent to 495.07 t CO₂e ha⁻¹) indicates substantial emission risks if degradation occurs. These findings underscore the critical role of both conservation and non-conservation mangroves in climate regulation and align with Indonesia’s current policy focus on blue carbon ecosystems, coastal resilience, and community-based conservation.
