Abstract

Mobile augmented reality (AR) has evolved from an experimental visualization tool into a mature pedagogical medium that redefines spatial learning in geography education. By embedding digital content into authentic locations, AR fosters experiential and inquiry-driven learning aligned with geography’s spatial and environmental paradigms. Building on evidence from 2015 to 2025, this review synthesizes 138 studies to examine how AR supports cognitive, affective, and behavioral learning dimensions. The analysis reveals that AR enhances spatial reasoning, visualization of abstract processes, and place-based engagement when integrated within robust instructional design frameworks. However, persistent gaps remain in long-term learning assessment, scalability, and teacher competence for authoring AR experiences. Cognitive-load and motivation studies suggest that AR’s benefits are maximized when interactivity and spatial anchoring are balanced with scaffolding. The review proposes a multidimensional model linking technological affordances, pedagogical strategies, and geographic thinking to promote education for sustainability and digital spatial citizenship. Implications for researchers, educators, and developers are discussed to guide future cross-disciplinary innovations.

Abstract

Behavioral changes brought about by the learning process are called learning outcomes. By utilizing Google Earth multimedia about Indonesian flora and fauna, this research seeks to improve the learning outcomes of class XI students. This research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design. The main goal of PTK is to help teachers solve learning challenges in the classroom and to improve and improve the quality of learning. SMA Negeri 1 Tilango, Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province was the location for this research. The research was conducted in 2024 between June and July. Class XI students were used as research subjects.  The instruments of this research are test questions, teacher activity observation sheets, and student activity observation sheets. The research results showed that the learning management activities observed by teachers in Cycle I were in the best condition with a percentage value of 44.4%; in Cycle II it increased to a maximum of 55.6%; and in the maximum category it reaches 100%. Student activities in cycle I produced 66.7% very good learning aspects, 16.7% good learning aspects, and 16.7% negative learning aspects. In contrast, the second cycle student activity score showed 16.7% in the good category and 83.3% in the very good category. Utilizing Google Form as a tool for monitoring student learning outcomes, student learning outcomes are processed in cycles I and II. Completeness of student learning outcomes in cycle I was 53.33% and incomplete student learning outcomes was 46.67%. These results are based on observations made by observers. On the other hand, 87.88% of students completed cycle II, and 12.12% of students showed incomplete results. Based on the research results, the learning outcomes of class XI IPS 3 students at SMA Negeri 1 Tilango regarding the distribution of flora and fauna can be improved by using Google Earth media.

Abstract

Green Open Space (GOS) plays an important role in maintaining environmental balance in urban areas. However, rapid development and land-use changes have caused a decrease in the availability of Green Open Space in Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency. This study aims to map the distribution of public Green Open Space and analyze its availability based on the area in Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency. The research used a descriptive quantitative method with spatial analysis. The data used include administrative boundary data, public Green Open Space distribution data obtained from related institutions, and field survey results. The results show that public Green Open Space in Limboto District is unevenly distributed and only found in several villages. The types of Green Open Space identified include city parks, recreational parks, grand forest parks, urban forests, green corridors, and water body buffer zones. The total area of public Green Open Space is 90.02 hectares or approximately 1.10% of the total area, which does not meet the minimum requirement of 20% public Green Open Space.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the competencies of Master’s students in Geography Education at the Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) in optimizing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Scite.ai, for literature review writing. The main issue identified was the participants’ limited understanding of AI-based tools for reference searching and systematic, evidence-based literature synthesis. The program employed a participatory hands-on training approach involving six active graduate students and was conducted at the Graduate Lecture Building of UNG. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure competency improvement. The pre-test results indicated that 0% of participants understood how to use Scite.ai for contextual citation analysis. After the training and practical sessions, post-test results demonstrated that 100% of participants were able to independently use the application and successfully produce a complete Chapter II (Literature Review) draft aligned with their respective thesis topics. The activity proved effective in improving AI literacy, contextual citation analysis skills (supporting, contrasting, mentioning), and the overall quality of academic argumentation. Continuous implementation of similar training programs is recommended to support research quality enhancement and scholarly publication in higher education institutions.
