Abstract

The importance of consuming fruit and vegetables is commonly neglected by the Indonesian people. Only 6.4% of adolescents at the age of 10-14 consume fruit and vegetables about 5 portions or more per day while the remaining 93.6% fewer than 5 portions. It is probably caused by their lack of knowledge and negative attitude toward it so that health promotion, using audiovisual, is needed. The research method used quasi experimental method with group pretest-posttest design. It was conducted at SMPIT AL Musabbihin and  Namira Medan. The population was 58 students consisted of 28 at SMPIT Al Musabbihin and 30at SMPIT Namira. The data were analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis with paired-sample t-test at significance level of 95% (α=0.05).The result of statistic test showed that there was significant difference in attitude between the students at SMPIT Al Musabbihin and SMPIT Namira about the importance of consuming fruit and vegetables. The conclusion of the research is that audio visual media is more effective to change students' attitudes become more positive about the importance of vegetable and fruit consumption in SMPIT Al Musabbihin and lecturer method is effective at SMPIT Namira Medan.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health and nutritional problems that are often experienced by toddlers as a result of not fulfilling food intake for a long time, causing toddlers' height to be inappropriate for their age. In 2021 the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is 24.4 percent. Langkat Regency is one of the regencies in North Sumatra, where stunting is a health and nutrition problem with a prevalence of 31.5 percent. This study aims to analysist the relationship between food security and breastfeeding and feeding practices with the incidence of stunting under five in poor families in Langkat Regency. This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design with a sample of 238 children under five. The results showed that there was a relationship between food security (p < 0.001) and the practice of breastfeeding and food (p < 0.001) with the incidence of stunting under five. Suggestions for this research to health workers are expected to carry out health education about healthy and nutritious food intake and mothers are expected to be able to fulfill healthy and nutritious food intake for toddlers so that toddlers' growth and development are optimal.

Abstract

Stunting is currently experienced by many toddlers in the world, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. Stunting is not only associated with children's height that is shorter than their age but can also threaten the intelligence, disease resistance, quality, and productivity of future generations. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family food security and maternal parenting with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months. The study was observational and cross-sectional design. The sampling technique was multistage random sampling with a sample size of 205 children. Data were analyzed analysis using chi-square and multiple logistic regression tests. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between family food security (p=0.100) and the incidence of stunting, there was a significant relationship between breastfeeding and food parenting (p less than 0.001), hygiene parenting, and environmental sanitation (p less than 0.001) with stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months. The multivariate results showed that the variables most related to the incidence of stunting were hygiene parenting and environmental sanitation where the p-value was 0.003 and the PR value was 10,844 (95% CI=2.234-52.639). It is expected that health workers will monitor the nutritional status of children under five, and need to increase mother's knowledge about good parenting and the importance of improving clean and healthy living behavior.

Abstract

Stunting is the inability of children under five to grow normally due to the effects of chronic lack of nutrition so that their height is very short for their age. Data from SSGI in 2022, Aceh Province has a prevalence rate of stunting among children under five which is ranked fifth with a percentage of 31.2 percent. According to SSGI data for 2021, stunting in West Aceh Regency was 27.4 percent and increased to 30.4 percent in 2022 with a very high category. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between parenting styles and the incidence of stunting in children 24-36 months in West Aceh Regency. This type of research is quantitative research with a case control design. The sample size was 100 toddlers, 50 toddlers were selected for the case group and 100 toddlers for the control group. The results of the study showed that the variables that were related were parenting patterns for breastfeeding and food (p=0.016), personal hygiene parenting patterns (p=0.028) and history of antenatal care visits (p=0.007) with the incidence of stunting. Suggestions for this research to the government are expected to be able to synergize better in creating programs to overcome stunting and poverty and improve the performance of services and implementation of specific nutritional intervention programs for pregnant women. One of them is an examination program during pregnancy both in terms of quantity of visits and also inspections carried out during ANC activities.
