Abstract

The potential of plastic waste in Singaparna District, Tasikmalaya Regency, based on field observations, can reach up to 10 tons per month, with its utilization not yet optimal. The plastic waste collected at the Tasikmalaya Waste Bank (BST) typically consists of intact plastic bottles and cups. In addition to being used for handicrafts, the BST group sells it directly to plastic recycling factories at a price of IDR 8,000 per kg. According to their calculations, this price does not cover the operational costs of BST. Meanwhile, the price of plastic that has been shredded into granules can reach up to IDR 14,000 per kg. The Agricultural Tools and Machines Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Industrial Management at Padjadjaran University has developed a plastic shredding machine capable of reducing plastic to the smallest size with a sieve diameter of 14 mm, with a machine capacity of 30 kg/hour, which is expected to assist in addressing issues faced by the partners. The goal of this PKM (Community Service Program) activity is to assist the BST Tasikmalaya group in utilizing plastic waste, either as raw material for handicrafts or to be sold directly in the form of plastic granules. The implementation method for this activity includes the application of appropriate technology, specifically a plastic shredding machine in Singaparna District, Tasikmalaya Regency, which covers the production of the shredding machine, the application of the machine, socialization through lectures on utilizing plastic as a recyclable product to address waste problems, guidance and training on operating the plastic shredding machine, and maintenance procedures for the machine.

Abstract

This research employed the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to evaluate the performance of the black orchid hydroponic system using Deep Flow Technique (DFT) based on Plant House during the acclimatization phase. The objective of this study was to assess the system's performance considering parameters such as plant height, energy, water requirements, energy costs, nutrient needs, and ease of maintenance. The research methodology combines qualitative and quantitative approaches involving 50 respondents from various orchid communities in several cities in Indonesia. The data were analyzed using AHP to determine the priority weights for the tested alternatives. The results show that plant height holds the highest weight with 0.4394. Comparing the DFT black orchid system with the conventional one reveals differences in performance parameters like energy, water requirements, energy costs, nutrient needs, plant height, and ease of maintenance. The DFT hydroponic system outperforms the conventional system with a total performance index of 0.8832, interpreted as "Excellent," while the conventional system scores a total performance index of 0.5401, interpreted as "Average." The implications of this research suggest that the DFT black orchid system is more suitable for Plant House scale or producing ornamental plants supplied to orchid retailers, enhancing efficiency and productivity in commercial orchid cultivation. Abstract

Masalah sampah rumah tangga di Desa Nanjung Mekar, Kecamatan Rancaekek, Kabupaten Bandung semakin meningkat seiring dengan pertumbuhan populasi dan kegiatan domestik. Kurangnya pemilahan sampah dari sumbernya, ketergantungan pada Tempat Pembuangan Sementara (TPS), dan keterbatasan inovasi dalam pengelolaan sampah telah menyebabkan penumpukan limbah dan pencemaran lingkungan. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah organik secara mandiri melalui penerapan teknologi alat reaktor pengolah sampah rumah tangga. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan, demonstrasi penggunaan reaktor pirolisis, pendampingan, serta evaluasi efektivitas alat selama satu bulan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat sebesar 70% mengenai pengelolaan sampah, pengurangan volume limbah organik hingga 40%, serta penggunaan kompos dan pupuk cair hasil olahan reaktor untuk kegiatan pertanian rumah tangga. Program ini tidak hanya memberikan solusi praktis terhadap masalah limbah tetapi juga mendorong perilaku ramah lingkungan dan potensi ekonomi sirkular di tingkat rumah tangga. Dengan demikian, penerapan teknologi reaktor terbukti efektif sebagai pendekatan inovatif dalam pengelolaan limbah berkelanjutan di wilayah Rancaekek.

Abstract

This community service proposes the application of a yogurt-making machine for dairy products as a strategy to support residents' self-reliance at the Batujajar Transit Apartment in Bandung. Through modern technology in the milk production process, this community service aims to increase the added value of local dairy products and encourage the active participation of residents in production activities. Community service methods involve surveys, interviews, and direct observations of apartment residents. The number of participants in this training was 20, dominated by housewives, with 62% being aged 20‒25. Based on the analysis, 69.5% of the participants positively assessed this community service activity, including aspects of learning materials, speakers, facilities, satisfaction, and expectations. This implementation also opens up new opportunities for local and regional marketing, increases product competitiveness, and creates an environment that supports economic independence of the farmers. In conclusion, applying a yogurt-making machine for dairy products at the Batujajar Transit Apartment in Bandung is an innovative step toward increasing the economic independence of residents. This community service contributes to developing local products, residents' self-reliance, community empowerment, and regional economic growth.

Abstract

The poultry industry, which plays a crucial role in meeting global meat and egg production demands, can benefit from research on optimal environmental conditions, particularly temperature and lighting, for chicken productivity, with a focus on local breeds like Sentul chickens and the use of brooders for temperature control. This research aims to create an integrated temperature control system for chicken brooder using an Arduino Uno microcontroller and web-based monitoring, which will automate the control of brooder and provide continuous monitoring to enhance efficiency and productivity in poultry farming, particularly for Sentul chickens, by accurately measuring and monitoring microclimatic conditions, preventing measurement errors and fluctuations in temperature, and mitigating potential stress-related issues. The developed control system simplifies monitoring and control processes, eliminating the need for direct human intervention, and consists of hardware components such as temperature sensors, incandescent lamps, a microcontroller, and a router, and software components including programming the sensors, microcontroller, and website for data display, and a temperature control program developed using the Arduino programming language that effectively regulates the heating lamp based on temperature thresholds. The study showcases the effectiveness and academic relevance of utilizing Arduino-based technology and web-based monitoring systems in poultry farming, providing valuable insights for chicken farmers and serving as a reference for future development of temperature control devices, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and productivity of Sentul chicken production and benefiting the local community and the poultry industry.
