Abstract

Computational thinking (CT) is a vital 21st-century skill in mathematics education, enabling students to solve problems systematically through decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. However, students’ mathematical disposition—encompassing beliefs, habits of mind, and affective tendencies—may significantly influence CT development. Guided by the affective–cognitive interaction model, this study aimed to explore how mathematical disposition shapes students’ CT skills, particularly in solving systems of three-variable linear equations using self-constructed, flowchart-supported algorithmic representations. A descriptive qualitative approach was adopted, with six students (two each from high, medium, and low disposition levels, identified via questionnaire) participating. Data collection involved a disposition scale, CT test, interviews, and documentation. Findings revealed that high-disposition students successfully demonstrated all CT indicators and produced coherent flowcharts. Medium-disposition students showed variability: some met all criteria, while others faltered in algorithmic design. Low-disposition students managed only basic decomposition and pattern recognition, with incomplete abstraction and fragmented flowcharts. These results suggest a strong link between affective factors and cognitive performance in CT tasks. Implications highlight the importance of integrating disposition-aware scaffolding—such as interactive visual tools and guided reflection—to support diverse learners and enhance CT development in mathematics classrooms.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of mathematical resilience to mathematical problem solving abilities based on relevant articles. This research method uses meta analysis using OLS (Ordinary Least Square) to determine a simple linear regression equation and also using formula effect size to determine the measure of effect. The results of this research are that mathematical resilience has a positive effect to mathematical problem solving abilities of 44.488% with a simple linear regression equation, namely . The effect of mathematical resilience to mathematical problem solving ability is large, with average of effect size is 0.764. So, its conclude that mathematical resilience had positive large effect to mathematical problem solving ability.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is an essential 21st-century competency. However, national assessment results and international studies such as PISA indicate that Indonesian students’ mathematical literacy remains below the average. A similar condition was found at SMP Negeri 1 Pangenan, where this research was conducted. Based on an intrinsic motivation questionnaire administered to 34 students, their motivation levels were classified into three categories: high (), medium (), and low (). This study aims to explore students’ mathematical literacy skills based on their levels of intrinsic motivation. The research employed a qualitative descriptive–exploratory approach. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of six eighth-grade students representing each level of intrinsic motivation. Data were collected through intrinsic motivation questionnaires, mathematical literacy tests, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing. The findings show that: (1) Students with high intrinsic motivation demonstrated excellent performance in almost all components of mathematical literacy, accompanied by strong learning control, self-confidence, and full engagement. (2) Students with medium intrinsic motivation showed fairly good but inconsistent performance, particularly in reasoning, the use of symbols. Their learning control and self-confidence were not yet stable. (3) Students with low intrinsic motivation tended to perform at a fair to low level, with weak motivation and low engagement. These findings indicate that there are clear differences in mathematical literacy performance based on students’ levels of intrinsic motivation. This study recommends implementing learning approaches that take motivational variations into account to optimize students’ mathematical literacy

Abstract

The axiom of Lobachevsky's parallelism is one of the topics that students often find difficult. The purpose of this research is to design a learning trajectory about the Lobachevsky axiom of parallelism using the context of a valid, practical and effective traditional fishing gear "bubu". This research applies development studies which consist of three main phases: preliminary study: analysis and exploration; prototype development: design and construction; and the last stage of assessment: evaluation and reflection. The results of the study show that the learning trajectory of the Lobachevsky equation axiom using the context of traditional fishing gear "bubu" is valid, practical and effective to improve problem-solving skills for mathematics education students. The conclusion is that there are six steps to the learning trajectory, namely: First, identification of problems with the local cultural context; Second: representation of problems; Third: make a settlement plan; Fourth: implementing the plan; Fifth: evaluate the solution of the problem; and lastly, make a conclusion about the axiom of Lobachevsky's parallelism.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically analyze the trends, focus, and effectiveness of the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by learning media on improving students' mathematical literacy in Indonesia. The approach used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with reference to the guidelines of Kitchenham and Charters. Data were collected from 26 scientific articles published between 2021 and 2025 obtained through the Google Scholar database. Article inclusion criteria in this study were set to ensure the relevance and quality of the sources, namely they must be journal publications indexed by Sinta or Google Scholar, specifically discussing students' mathematical literacy in the implementation of Problem-Based Learning assisted by learning media, and written in Indonesian or English. Analysis was conducted on aspects of the objectives, types and designs of the research, types of media used, learning materials, educational levels, and the effectiveness of the implementation of media-assisted PBL. The results of the review indicate that most studies focused on improving mathematical literacy using a quantitative approach through a quasi-experimental design and the ADDIE model. Digital learning media, particularly GeoGebra, is the most widely used and has proven effective in fostering understanding of abstract concepts. Furthermore, studies show that high school and vocational high school (SMA/SMK) students and geometry are the most frequently researched topics. Overall, the integration of PBL with learning media has been shown to effectively improve mathematical literacy, critical thinking skills, and student engagement, making it an innovative strategy for strengthening the quality of mathematics learning in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to describe the results of research related to mathematics learning using comics or e-comics to improve students' mathematical literacy. The research method used is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The article search process utilized the Harzing's Publish or Perish application and the research data source came from the Google Scholar platform with a publication range of 2021-2025. The literature screening process used the PRISMA 2020 guidelines which include the identification, screening, and inclusion stages. The results show that research related to the application of comic media in mathematics learning to improve students' mathematical literacy has received quite good attention in recent years. This is further evidenced by the increase in research in 2025, where research is mostly conducted at the junior high school level with the most frequently chosen subject matter being geometry and algebra. The most research was conducted in Java and Sumatra. The most widely used research method is the development method (Research and Development) with digital comics as the most frequently chosen media type. Mathematics learning using comic media is effective for improving students' mathematical literacy.
