Abstract

Tanggamus memiliki produktivitas tertinggi (2,47 t/ha) karena memiliki lebih banyak jumlah daun (31,5), jumlah cabang (4,5 - 5,3), jumlah buku produktif (27,67) dan jumlah polong isi (80,9).Pyrite oxidation causes the soil pH drops, thus increasing the solubility of aluminium and iron. Saturated soil culture maintains the water depth and makes the soil below saturated. This study aims to determine the effects of soil water depth and amelioration on soil chemical properties and soybean productivity. The experiment is conducted on acid sulphate soil Banyu Urip, South Sumatera Province, from June until October 2012. The experiment is arranged in a split split plot design with three replications. The main factor is water depth in the furrow consisted of 10 and 20 cm under soil surface. The second factor is ameliorant: without ameliorant, lime and straw ash. The third factors are genotypes: Anjasmoro, Yellow Biloxi, Tanggamus and Lawit. The results show that interaction of water depth and amelioration increase soil pH to 4.67, maintain soil P at 10.70 ppm and increase soil K, Ca and Mg to 1.15, 11.70 and 6.90 me/100 g. The soil Fe decrease to 12.14 ppm, whereas Al and Al saturated decrease to 2.06 ppm and 10.36 percent, respectively. Tanggamus has the highest productivity (2.47 t/ha), supported by higher number of leaves (31.5), branches (4.5 - 5.3), productive nodes (27.67) and filled pods (80.9.)

Abstract

Soil factors such as pH and the presence of polyvalent cations can influence the net production of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). This study aimed to determine the main factors that control net DOC production. The study was conducted at Buatan Village, Siak Indrapura Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia. Soil and water sampling were done every month for a year observation, from July 2018 to June 2019. Soil sampling was carried out to determine the concentration of C-organic acids, pH, N, P, K, Cu, and soil water content (SWC). Peat water sampling was carried out using modified pore water sampling to measure DOC concentration. Groundwater level (GWL) and soil temperature were also observed. Multiple regression analysis was performed to find out the soil and environmental factors controlling the net DOC production. The results showed that the net DOC production fluctuated with seasonal changes and soil pH was a significant controlling factor (P = 0.035) and positively correlated (P = 0.040) to the net DOC production. In addition, N-mineral, PO4, and Cu were positively correlated with net DOC production (P-value: 0.026; 0.033; and 0.028; respectively) while C-organic acids and SWC were negatively correlated (P-value: 0.033; and 0.020; respectively). There was no correlation between net DOC production with GWL, soil temperature, and K concentration. This finding confirmed that pH was the main factor controlling the net DOC production and reflects DOC contribution to the solution acidity.

Abstract

FTIR spectroscopy combined with canonical variate analysis was used for differentiation of java tea (Orthosiphon stamineus) according to their geographical origin. FTIR spectra of all java tea samples were acquired in the mid infrared region (wavenumber range 4000-400 cm-1). Preprocessing signal of FTIR spectra has been carried out prior to canonical variate analysis by standard normal variate. Combination of FTIR spectra in the region 1800-900 cm-1with canonical variate analysis has the power to differentiate java tea samples in terms of geographical origin. The developed method could be used for identification of geographical origin of java tea based on the samples used in this study.

Abstract

Nowadays, halting greenhouse gasses (GHG) emission is the world's major concern to mitigate global climate change. In oil palm cultivated tropical peatland, GHG emission is primarily constituted of CO2 flux emitted from aerobic heterotrophic respiration (Rh), the natural degradation process of organic material in an oxidative environment. By coupling descriptive and predictive statistical approaches, this study attempt to gain an in-depth understanding of the effects of zeolite rates and incubation time on CO2 emission that came from aerobic Rh in peat, as well as their decomposition process. This study found that zeolite amelioration up to 30% of the peat at field capacity and starting from the first month of observation (month-1) significantly restricted peat Rh, denoted by a reduced amount of observed CO2 flux (0.021 and 0.019-0.012 mg m-2 sec-1, respectively). Both factors and several soil variables exhibited some non-linear relationships with Rh at different magnitudes and importance, showing the limitation of the traditional linear-based approach to interpreting their complex interrelationships, as well as predicting CO2 flux. This study highlights the vital role of a polynomial (GAM) and artificial intelligence (Cubist and GBM) -based pedotransfer models in improving our understanding regarding the dynamic of the peat decomposition process as affected by zeolite amendment.

Abstract

Determining the oil palm dead roots contribution to total (Rt) and heterotrophic (Rh) respiration as a source of greenhouse gas/GHG emission in tropical peatland is urgently required, as well as predicting their magnitude to cope with difficulties of direct in-situ measurement. This study is designed to simulate the CO2 flux emitted from oil palm dead roots/Rdr in tropical peatland as affected by water content/WC and residence time/RT. The dead oil palm roots were cleaned, treated with control/15, 100, 150, 300, and 450%WC, and then incubated for three months. CO2 flux measurement, C, N, and CN ratio determination were conducted every month. This study demonstrated the importance Rdr among other CO2 emission sources, ranging from 0.05-2.3 Mg CO2 ha-1 year-1 with an average of 0.7 Mg CO2 ha-1 year-1. Rdr contribution for literature Rt and Rh were around 0.3 to 1.3 and 0.9 to 3.5%, respectively. As a product of microbial respiration, Rdr was affected by WC and RT, supported by analysis of variance, linear mixed effect model/REML, and multivariate analysis. 100-150%WC resulting in significant and highest Rdr, whereas the increase (300-450%WC) or decrease (15%WC) would generate lower emission. Rdr culminated in the first month after incubation; meanwhile, it declined in the following months. This study also emphasized non-linear relationships between CO2 flux and other root properties, which can be modeled conveniently using non-linear approach, particularly using polynomial and artificial intelligence-based models. The simulation presented in this study served as an initial attempt to separate Rdr from Rh, as well as to predict CO2 flux with reasonable accuracy and interpretable methods.

Abstract

One of the management challenges in pineapple cultivation at plantation scale is the still occurrence of disparity in land productivity across the cultivated area although the cropping practices have been implemented for many years. In the case of a pineapple plantation in Central Lampung Regency, contribution of soil biochemical properties in terms of various soil enzyme activities as a determinant factor of land productivity has never been elaborated. This research was aimed to study the relationships among biochemical and other soil properties with land productivity or pineapple yield at plantation scale. Rhizosphere soil-composite samples were taken purposively from 4 stations at the largest Indonesian pineapple plantation representing blocks with high and low yield and growth at vegetative and generative phase. Relationships amongst the studied parameters were evaluated using PCA and linear multiple regression analysis. The results showed significant contributions of the rhizosphere soil properties on the pineapple yield according to equation: Yield = 64.895 – 6.546 PCA1 +13.057 PCA2 – 7.722 PCA4 (R2= 0.612), where PCA1 consisted of soil available-P, available-K, and CEC; PCA2 was of soil base saturation, total microbe population, enzyme activities of cellulase and invertase, while PCA4 was of soil organic C, silt fraction, and phosphatase activities.

Abstract

The physical quality of NPK fertilizer is very important, good physical quality, as indicated by the low potential of caking and absorption-penetration of water so that NPK fertilizer can be stored for a longer time and easier in handling. In this study, the granulation test used NPK 15-15-15 + 5S formula with the percentage filter pressmud 0%, 60%, 70%, 80%. 90% and 100% in two types of K sources: MOP (KCl) and SOP (K2SO4). Granulation was carried out using the wet granulation method using pan granulator, 2 kg batch-1 capacity, rotation speed 23 rpm and 50o pan slope. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of filter pressmud addition on the tendency of caking NPK 15-15-15 + 5S products during storage. The results showed that the addition of pressmud filler in the production of NPK fertilizer was obtained: the addition of filter pressmud as a filler in the production of 15-15-15 + 5S NPK fertilizers can reduce the potential of caking by 1.77% -44.31% depending on the formulation of raw materials used.
