Abstract

Background: Masks, devices used to cover the face, nose, and mouth area to prevent the transmission of viruses, bacteria, diseases, and air pollution, have become a topic of pros and cons among the public regarding their impact on cardiorespiratory fitness during physical activity, as some claim that masks decrease airflow to the lungs thus reducing oxygen in the blood and muscles which makes activity more difficult, while other studies have shown no difference in cardiorespiratory fitness values with or without masks. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in cardiorespiratory fitness levels when wearing a mask and not wearing a mask in physiotherapy students. Methods: This study used an analytical observational design with a one-group pre-post test design and a consecutive sampling technique involving 35 physiotherapy students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Udayana. This research was conducted at the Physiotherapy Building, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Udayana, in June 2023. The inclusion criteria included physiotherapy students aged ≥ 18 with normal vital signs who used a 3-ply surgical mask. The exclusion criteria were students with a history of respiratory problems and those who did not use a 3-ply surgical mask. Cardiorespiratory fitness was measured using the Harvard step test. Results: This study showed that the research subjects were dominated by students with poor cardiorespiratory fitness when wearing a mask or not wearing a mask, namely 35 students (100%). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in cardiorespiratory fitness levels between mask wearers and non-wearers, with a p-value of 0.180 (>0.05).

Abstract

Introduction: Abdominal circumference serves as an indicator in determining central obesity criteria. In the Asia-Pacific region, the central obesity criteria are abdominal circumference ?90 cm for men and ?80 cm for women. Menopausal women experience decreased estrogen levels associated with the loss of subcutaneous fat and increased abdominal fat. When there is excessive fat distribution in the central body, there is a possibility of decreased adiponectin levels as an anti-atherogenic factor, leading to increased blood pressure. This study aims to determine the relationship between abdominal circumference and blood pressure increase in menopausal women in the Mengwi District. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a population of menopausal women aged 45-55 years using a consecutive sampling technique. Subjects were selected according to inclusion, exclusion, and dropout criteria until the total number of subjects reached 85 individuals. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rho test to determine the relationship between variables and the correlation strength. Results: Based on the data analysis, there was a significant relationship between abdominal circumference and blood pressure, as evidenced by a p-value of 0.018 (p<0.05) and a weak positive correlation coefficient (0.255). Conclusion: Abdominal circumference is associated with increased blood pressure in menopausal women with a weak correlation level. Keywords: abdominal circumference, blood pressure, women, menopause

Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety is a typical emotional response to daily pressures experienced across various age groups, from adolescents to adults. Over 14 million people in Indonesia, or 6% of the country's population, suffer from anxiety. Kaplan and Sadock suggest that individuals aged between 21 and 45 years are more likely to experience anxiety disorders. Frangipani flowers, abundant in Bali, possess relaxation effects that can alleviate stress, attributed to compounds such as triterpenoids, amyrin, geraniol, citronellol, and linalool. Method: The research design employed was cross-sectional. The study was conducted from March to November 2023. Subjects were selected using consecutive sampling techniques. The study included 40 female spa visitors aged 21-45 years. The Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale was used to measure anxiety levels. Results: Based on Spearman Rho test results, a p-value of 0.000 with p<0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between frangipani aromatherapy usage and anxiety levels. The findings revealed that among visitors who underwent treatment with frangipani aromatherapy, eight individuals (40%) experienced mild anxiety, six individuals (30%) experienced moderate stress, and four individuals (20%) experienced severe anxiety. Conclusion: This study concludes that frangipani aromatherapy usage is associated with decreased anxiety levels among visitors at Padma Resort Ubud Spa, based on statistical data analysis showing p<0.05. Abstract
