Abstract

The entity of the adoption process produced a concept of multiculturalism in the form of marawis music presented by Suma Budaya group. This study aims to analyze the musical elements of the group Suma Budaya marawis Pekalongan City and multicultural characteristics in the context of urban Pekalongan. The research method is qualitative with interdisciplinary approach. The supporting data were collected from observation, interview, and documentation. Then, these data were validated using triangulation technique. The analysis of the data included four steps, including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the musical elements presented by the Suma Culture marawis group brought Arabic, Javanese and Chinese concepts in the show, among others realized through (a) the addition of musical instrument that is Javanese gamelan that have elements of pentatonic tones of Java with the pelog nem is 1 (ji), 2 (ro), 3 (lu), 5 (mo), 6 (nem), and when the tone of nog in gamelan make a diatonic tone it will sound 3 (mi), 4 (fa), 5 (sol), 7 (si), 1 (do); (b) Chinese elements can be seen from the Chinese pentatonic tones found in Ghuzeng musical instruments: 1 (do), 2 (re), 3 (mi), 5 (so), 6 (la); (c) Arabic elements in this case can be seen from rampak marawis itself, including with the musical instrument marawis, bass jidor, and darbuka.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss specifically about how the form of Malay traditional music is. It is to give insight and information about the characteristic of Malay traditional music form in Palembang. This research used qualitaive method with musicological approach. The technique of data collection are observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of data validity used triangulation. The results of the research is that there were some repetition in the main melody or vocal melody, question and response phrases, and characteristic of lyrics and the meaning of Malay traditional song in Palembang. One of traditional song in Palembang is Melati Karangan, this song is a symbol or an identity of Palembang that always respects a woman or older people. The musical performance in Melati Karangan song is usually presented in wedding traditional ceremony. The tribute to women, parents and guests in Palembang representing courtesy in the marriage process, is part of Malay cultural identity in Palembang.

Abstract

The arts of Rejung is a poem delivered through singing or song, accompanied by a single guitar (one guitar), has a rhythm and ornamental tones delivered in accordance with the theme and vocal character of the performer or Rejung artist. Rejung arts is a form of expression of a cultural society in Pagaralam which has a variety of functions according to the interests and circumstances of society. The purpose of the study was to analyze the socio-cultural changes and its effect on the function of Rejung arts in Pagaralam. The science used here is sociology, it is to describe social changes in a society that affects the function of Rejung arts in Pagaralam. The research method is descriptive qualitative. The technique of data collection in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of data validity to examine credibility of data is through triangulation. Triangulation of source was done for the process of examination by checking data from several sources. The technique of data analysis used analysis procedur of Miles’ and Huberman’s interactive, i.e., data reduction from the object of Rejung arts. The data is in the form of written document, visual and audio which have been identified, verified, arranged, grouped, and classified in accordance with the research focus. The change of function of Rejung arts because of the less interest from societies, especially the young generation to display and to appreciate Rejung arts as a form of traditional arts. It causes the losing of a tradition and values of inherited arts from generation to generation.

Abstract

Bongkel art was created by Kerta Wijaya as an expression of self-motivated by dissatisfaction of farmworker regarding the results of work. Development of Bongkel art by Gerduren Village community functioned as a medium of entertainment, communication between Gerduren community while keeping the fields. Based on the reason, the researcher examines the values contained in Bongkel art. This research is qualitative research. The location in this research is in Gerduren village of Banyumas Regency. Data collection techniques consist of observation, interview, and document study. Data validity technique used in this research is triangulation. Miles and Huberman analysis model is used as data analysis technique. Bongkel result is analysed using the value of axiology. The analysis is using some values on art Bongkely that divine the value reflected in the activity. For exmples: Religion value in sedekah bumi, the good living value reflected in the activities of visiting family members, the truth value seen in traditional clothing used by society. This clothes uphold the values and norms agreed by Banyumas community, while the value of beauty is seen from the relationship between human beings, man with God and man with nature.

Abstract

The inaccurate timing of task collection and the low quality of 3D craft products is due to the fact that most of the students have not been able to manage the timely completion of tasks and lack of optimal control over the tasks assigned. This study aims to determine whether the use of passport skills in project-based learning can improve the timeliness and quality of 3D craft products. An action research conducted in class X Animation 2 SMK N 11 Semarang is done in 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection on project based learning with applied passport skill. The data were taken in the form of the timeliness of task collection and product quality measured from the aspect of tidiness, proportion, and uniqueness. The data obtained were analyzed in descriptions. The results show that project-based learning through passport skills can improve the timeliness of X-Animation students of SMK Negeri 11 Semarang. It is proven that students who submitted the task on time rose from 75% to 92%. The learning also improves the quality of three-dimensional craft products, proven by the average in cycle I of 74.31 increased to 85.19. Percentage of completeness in the first cycle reached 64% and in the second cycle increased to 92%. The level of tidiness in cycle I reached 83% increased to 88%, while the proportion aspect increased from 78% to 86%, and the uniqueness aspect increased from 62% to 81%. It was concluded that project-based learning using passport skill enhances the timeliness and quality of 3D craft products in students of X-Animation class of SMK N 11 Semarang.

Abstract

As one of the culture element, art is human nature that is bestowed by Allah for an activity that involves creative ability in expressing beauty, truth and goodness. The aesthetic value of Al-Chulafa’s rebana art is not only as an entertainment for the students of Darul Ulum Islamic boarding school and the society, but also as a music accompaniment to the song in praise of Prophet Muhammad to remind and give good advice to the performers as well as the audiences and grow religious values. The goal of this study is to analyze the aesthetic value and religious value of Al-Chulafa’s rebana art. Data analysis technique is taken by reducing, presenting and verifying data. The research is qualitative descriptive approach using design of case study located in Ngembalrejo Village, Bae Kudus. Data source in this study are primary and secondary source and techniques of collecting data are doing observation, interview and document studies. Technique of data validity is triangulation of the source while data analysis technique is taken by reducing data, presenting data, and verifying data. The result shows that the aesthetic value of Al-Chulafa's rebana art shows unity and harmony, which has the principle of organic unity, principle of theme, principle of thematic variation, principle of balance, principle of evolution, and principle of hierarchy. While the religious values in the art of rebana gives a positive impact to the spirituality development of its personnel, which is covered in five dimensions of religious behavior they are the value of belief, the value of religious practice, the value of experience, the value of religious knowledge and the value of religious practice.

Abstract

Tawar Sedenge is a song from Gayo, Aceh province. For Gayo society, this song has an important existence till present. It is marked by the sung of Tawar Sedenge song in Takengon’s formal events and every national ceremony as a distraction of Indonesia Raya song. Tawar Sedenge song has an important role in Gayo society because this song’s lyrics contains a spirit of nationalism that awaken the spirit of Gayo society to achieve the progress and weathliness. This research aims at analyzing and understanding the reflection of Gayo’s cultural identity in Tawar Sedenge song. The research method was qualitative. The research location was Takengon, Central Aceh Regency. The techniques of data collection were observation, interview, and document study. The technique of data validity used source triangulation. Analysis data technique used analysis desciptive. The research result shows that lyrics and music elements contained in this song prove that this song is reflected Gayo’s cultural identity that is from the cultural identity elements based on belief, language, and behavior. First, the element of belief exists in the third stanza lyrics. Secondly, the language element used is Gayo’s language, the behavior is seen from the costume worn by the conductor,i.e., Kerawang Gayo, Gayo’s raditional costume.. The behavior can also be seen from the solemn posture in singing the song. Therefore, it is believed that the elements of Tawar Sedenge song is the reflection of Gayo culture.

Abstract

This research reveals Pang Bas as a musical activity in the context of social exchange in Rindu Nada bamboo instrumental group in Sumillan village, Alla district, Enrekang regency. The research was made to analyze Pang Bas of Rindu Nada group. It used interdisciplinary approach, involving the disciplines of sociology under the paradigm of social behavior. The researcher employed qualitative research method to conduct the research. The data of this research were collected from observation, interview, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed in data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion. The findings showed that Pang Bas musical activity of Rindu Nada occurred during the rehearsal and stage performance collaborating with external parties. The activity initiated the social exchange causing aggression, praises, leadership, deprivation, and boredom towards Pang Bas. Meanwhile, during the play, Pang Bas generated social interaction to outsiders as intrinsic rewards, such as friendship, satisfaction, and social status. The extrinsic reward of it was a material thing in return. There was also a stimuli of generalization in the next meeting and discrimination prior to the success of past performance.

Abstract

Caricature is a picture which is distorted to send a satirical or funny message. It is portrayed in a printed media with a function of becoming a social control or a sword of opinion. This research has several objectives. First, it discusses the structure and function of KOKKANG art studio. Second, it reviews the learning of intergenerational caricature of KOKKANG art studio in Kaliwungu, Kendal. This research used descriptive qualitative design assisted with the approach from the theory of modern sociology. The supporting data were collected from observation, interview, and documentation. Triangulation of sources and data were used to validate the findings. Then, the data were analysed under the steps of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion (verification). There are some points from the findings of the research. First, the functional structure of KOKKANG art studio is interrelated to other structure. Some function in each position of the organization has worked as their job description. Thus, it impacts the inheritance of drawing caricature which is done by the education section of the organization. Second, the non-formal learning pattern done by the studio is friendly and familiar, thereby it produces the cadres of cartoonists which can maintain their existence. Based on the findings, there are some suggestions to be proposed. First, KOKKANG studio should actively promote and regenerate to keep the existence of it in the future. Second, the teenagers in Kaliwungu should actively participate in the part of the community by joining or following the agenda. Third, local government should be involved in supporting the studio whether morally or materially to continue its existence.

Abstract

Gandalia is one example of musical arts which can endure changes and times. It is a typical Banyumas traditional music which was used to play a specific Gandalia song, an agricultural pest repellent song. Its instruments has similar forms to musical instruments called Angklung, which are made from bamboo. The instruments produce a unique rhythm. At first, Gandalia was used as a means to drive agricultural pests away, but in its development, it becomes a musical performance. This change is interesting to be studied from the socio-cultural point of view. The writer, therefore, studied the functional change of Gandalia musical instruments based on the socio-cultural change which occur in the society who supports it. In writing this article, the research method applied is qualitative method, a method of collecting data by applying some techniques such as interview, observation, and documentation, while the validity of the data is checked by using triangulation, member checking, and rich and thick description.Milesr that, the data are analyzed using qualitative analysis of Miles and Huberman that is an interactive model of data analysis including some stages such as the process of data collecting, data reduction, and data presentation and verification. The research result shows that Gandalia music which, at first, was a means of driving pests away, now becomes one of the performance arts. This change is influenced by the socio-culture of the society who supports Gandalia art. They are the people of Tambaknegara, Banyumas Regency. This socio-cultural change has created a more complex form of Gandalia art.
