Abstract

Love for the country does not only focus on the physical resistance carried out at that time but can also take other forms. In this case, painting artists realized their love for their homeland through visual aspects. This research explores the forms of the concept of love for the country in Indonesian painting, especially in the 19th century. This research uses the historical method with five stages: topic selection, heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The result of this research is that paintings in the 19th century illustrate the concept of patriotism as seen from the objects depicted. The object of the painting is not only fixated on the role and power of the colonial nation but also gives the impression that the Indonesian nation also has a role. This can be seen from some of Raden Saleh's paintings such as Daendels' potert, the painting Between Life and Death, and the painting of Prince Diponegoro's arrest, which gives the meaning that Indonesians also played a role in historical events that occurred at that time.

Abstract

Literacy activities in education hold a crucial position, particularly reading within history education. Addressing literacy challenges encountered in the history learning process at State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Sumenep, there arises a necessity for innovation in implementing school literacy movements. LIRIS stands as an innovative initiative formed by the School Literacy Team (Tim Literasi Sekolah/TLS) at SMAN 1 Sumenep, aimed at addressing literacy challenges by amalgamating literacy processes with research. This research aims to find out the implementation and problems of history learning in the GLS program and find out how LIRIS can be an innovation in literacy activities. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data is collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings reveal: (1) GLS implementation in history education generally follows existing guidelines, observable in familiarization, development, and learning stages, yet specifics vary based on classroom conditions and teacher innovation, (2) literacy activity issues in history education arise across student, teacher, and school support aspects, and (3) LIRIS emerges as an innovative literacy activity addressing both general and specific history education challenges, albeit still necessitating evaluation and refinement.

Abstract

Previously, several toponymy studies have already been conducted both in the Nusa (Island) Ambon as well as in the City of Ambon. However, previous studies have not used the historical and archaeological approach. The use of this approach could ease the researchers to reveal the cross-cultural meeting in a specific locus. Taking the Island of Ambon as a locus, the researchers aim to find the origin of village names and the cultural intersection in Leihitu and Leitimor Peninsula. There were three steps conducted to collect and analyse data using historical and archaeological approach. Firstly, the researchers identified and took a tabulation of the village names, mentioned by the Hikayat Tanah Hitu (The Epic of Hitu Land) and three ancient maps. Secondly, the researchers identified various archaeological remains located in the scattered villages. Finally, the researchers analysed the origin of village names by searching the word-meanings, finding the present locations, and describing the role of the contemporary cultures (Islamic and Colonial period) in the past. The researchers found 12 villages with 22 archaeological remains. All related communities have the archaeological remains which could explain the local dynamics, but there are merely ten villages which name meanings could be identified.

Teacher competence in Indonesia is recognised as a key driver for improving the quality of education however, there are challenges in ensuring that all teachers have the necessary competencies. This is also required by history teachers, where history is indispensable for students as a foundation for acting in the present and future. To achieve this, teachers need to have competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, digital literacy, and the use of technology. This study aims to improve the competence of Mojokerto City and District History MGMP teachers in the field of local history material and making infographic learning media. This research had four stages: problem identification, solution formulation/planning, socialisation, and evaluation. The findings of this study indicate an increase in competence after the implementation of service activities. The data showed a striking increase in the pre-test and post-test results, specifically by 9.49. This finding shows that the teachers can effectively understand local history and develop digital-based learning resources. This improvement suggests that the skills and expertise of educators can be effectively enhanced through socialisation. This article concludes that a collaborative digital learning environment has a positive impact on teachers' professional development. In addition, the results show that ongoing collaboration and support among educators can result in continuous growth in terms of knowledge and skills. Abstract

It is essential for teachers, especially history teachers, to possess strong professional competencies, as the outcomes or objectives of history education are closely related to the orientation of learning that focuses on the transfer of values based on various historical facts obtained through research using scientific methods (both historical and archaeological research methods). The need or obligation to continuously develop professional competence requires history teachers in East Java to stay up to date with the latest historical research findings to ensure the development of high-quality teaching materials that align with scientific advancements. More specifically, there is a need for a platform that enables history teachers in East Java to gain an optimal understanding of the latest research findings related to the Singhasari Kingdom, a kingdom that played a crucial role in the formation of Indonesia. Consequently, it has become an important topic that must be taught in history lessons at Phase E, in accordance with the Learning Outcomes for History as stated in the Merdeka Curriculum. This community service program was carried out through several stages, namely: situation analysis, activity recommendations, curriculum and module design, preparation of learning materials on the Singhasari Kingdom, implementation, program evaluation, and follow-up planning. If teachers are able to optimize the use of various resources around them, the implementation of history learning using approaches that are relevant to students’ conditions and needs—such as the contextual approach—can also be effectively realized. This aligns with the materials presented by the resource person regarding the latest findings related to the Singhasari Kingdom.
