Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe a new learning model for teaching environmental history based on a sociocultural approach. This research employs a qualitative design, in which questionnaires were distributed to history teachers to collect data. The analysis process was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of this study is the development of a new learning model referred to as Environment Cultural Learning. This model has a syntax consisting of five stages: exploration, contextualization, application, collaboration, and reflection. The findings indicate that no specific model has previously outlined environmental history along with sociocultural values. Therefore, this study aims to provide an innovative learning model to support teachers. The Environment Cultural Learning model can be applied in the teaching of environmental history by exploring the environment and identifying sociocultural values that can be taught to students. This model consists of five stages: exploration, contextualization, application, collaboration, and reflection.

Abstract

Tulungagung Regency, East Java is one of the districts that has an interesting tradition that is carried out by residents every year because it is related to the history of Tulungagung in the past when the Kingdom of Mataram was still standing in the land of Java. The Jamasan Pusaka Pusaka Tombak Kyai Upas Traditional Ceremony is a tradition that is routinely carried out every year. The research method used in this study uses the Gray method and participatory observation that focuses on anthropology to study cultural events, documentation collection and life views of the research subjects. The Kyai Upas spear, a historical heirloom of the folklore of Ki Wonoboyo and Baru Klinthing, is believed to protect the community from disasters and maintain peace, becoming the cultural identity of Tulungagung. Based on research, the Jamasan Ceremony, which was held after 10 Sura at the Kepatihan Archives Office, involved carnivals, flushing, greetings, and puppet shows, reflecting the values of mutual cooperation, preservation of Javanese culture, religiosity, and nationalism. This tradition strengthens local identity, shows the connection of humans with nature and history, and is a form of gratitude and respect for the ancestral heritage that continues to live in the Tulungagung community

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The development of a culturally responsive teaching model, commonly called the Aligned Learning Model, is based on the idea that students' cultural backgrounds are significant in their learning process. Multicultural awareness in history education is an important aspect of education that aims to foster understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity. Integrating multicultural values into history education is essential for raising students' awareness of cultural pluralism and fostering tolerance and social cohesion attitudes. Methodology: In this study, we used a qualitative approach, distributing questionnaires to history teachers to collect data. We analysed the data in three stages: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Main Findings: The result of this study is a new learning model called Harmonis. The syntax of this model consists of five stages: learning instruction, concrete experience, reflection, communication, and evaluation. Based on the study's results, previous studies and findings in the field indicate that no specific model elaborates on local history and multicultural education in schools. This prompted the researchers to present an innovation, namely the Harmonis learning model. The Harmonis model can be applied in local history-based learning processes by exploring the surrounding environment and identifying multicultural values that can be taught to students. Novelty/Originality of this study: The Harmonis model bridges the needs of prospective professional teachers who want to teach multiculturalism contextually. The existence of this model is an innovation because several previous learning models have not been able to integrate local history and multiculturalism in a meaningful way.

Methodology: This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of field study. The subjects of the study include students from Mojokerto. The research instruments consist of observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation, while data collection techniques are conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Main Findings: Research findings indicate that the Majapahit Excursion program is capable of enhancing students' understanding of the archaeological remains of Majapahit, developing skills in toponymy analysis and local historical interpretation, strengthening collaborative abilities in the field, as well as introducing the local wisdom of the Majapahit Kingdom and its relevance in modern life. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of a field school model based on the Majapahit heritage in Mojokerto, which not only focuses on strengthening historical theory but also on integrating students' empirical experiences with local history learning. This model can serve as a strategic alternative in the development of site-based history curriculum in Indonesia.

Abstract

The low interest in reading of students affects their understanding of complex social studies material. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the use of Story Puzzle media to improve students' learning literacy in social studies subjects. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques in the form of participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study included social studies teachers and class VII F students of SMP Negeri 19 Malang. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results of the study showed that the planning of Story Puzzle media was carried out through analysis of student needs and development of teaching modules. Implementation refers to the Teams Games Tournament model through five stages: information delivery, team formation, games, matches, and team recognition. The evaluation showed that Story Puzzle media was effective in improving the ability to understand text, interpret information, analyze, evaluate, and communicate understanding. This media creates fun, collaborative, and contextual learning in accordance with 21st century learning and develops critical thinking skills, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
