Abstract

Abstract

The background to this activity stems from the high prevalence of over-the-counter use of traditional medicines among pregnant women, particularly in rural areas, without adequate understanding of their side effects on pregnancy. One serious risk of using traditional medicines without a prescription is abortion or miscarriage, which can be caused by the presence of certain active compounds in unstandardized herbal concoctions. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase pregnant women's knowledge about the dangers of using traditional medicines without medical consultation and to educate them about the importance of regular prenatal check-ups through health education. The implementation method for this activity included providing counseling materials, group discussions, case simulations, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The activity was conducted on July 15, 2025, in Village Y, District A, and involved 35 participants, consisting of pregnant women and health cadres. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding of the risks of inappropriate use of traditional medicines, with the average post-test score increasing by 61% compared to the pre-test. This activity also succeeded in building collective awareness about the importance of consulting a health professional before consuming traditional concoctions during pregnancy. This outreach activity is expected to be an early intervention that can prevent abortions caused by unsafe traditional medicine practices. Ongoing education and the involvement of community leaders and cadres are crucial strategies in developing safer, evidence-based health behaviors.

Abstract

Integrated service post (Posyandu) cadres play a vital role in monitoring the growth and development of children under five, yet they often face challenges in work efficiency due to manual data recording and limited access to information. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the e-Posyandu Kesehatan (ePoK) application on the work efficiency of cadres in conducting child growth monitoring and stimulation. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group posttest-only approach was employed. A total of 60 cadres were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire consisting of seven dimensions: time efficiency, data accuracy, productivity, information access, digital competence, communication and coordination. The results of multiple linear regression showed that all dimensions simultaneously had a significant influence on work efficiency (F = 221.075; p < 0.05) with an Adjusted R² of 0.962. Partially, information access (β = 0.677) and productivity (β = 0.388) were the most dominant dimensions. It is concluded that ePoK enhances cadre efficiency by accelerating data access, increasing productivity, and simplifying workflows. It is recommended to strengthen digital training for cadres and expand the implementation of ePoK to other regions as part of a broader community-based health service improvement strategy

Abstract

Background: Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a public health challenge in many regions, including Indonesia. Locally-based Supplementary Feeding (PMT) is often utilized to address nutritional issues, particularly in improving toddler weight and nutritional status. Objectives: This article aims to evaluate the effectiveness of locally-based supplementary feeding in improving toddler weight and nutritional status through a literature review. Methods: This literature review applied a narrative review approach by searching articles in PubMed and Google Scholar (2015–2024). Articles were selected based on inclusion criteria, including RCTs and observational studies discussing the impact of local PMT on toddler weight and nutritional status. Study quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and GRADE. Data were analyzed descriptively without quantitative meta-analysis.Results: Most studies reported that local PMT effectively increased toddler weight. However, its impact on nutritional status was often insignificant within a short intervention duration. Key factors determining the success of the intervention included nutrient composition, intervention duration, and adherence level. Conclusion: Local food-based PMT is effective in improving toddler weight, although it may not significantly change nutritional status in the short term. This intervention can serve as a relevant alternative to support toddler nutrition, especially in areas with limited access to nutritious food.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the satisfaction of midwives with the manual book of the Maternal Emergency Referral System in the Islands (Si-RUTAN) in supporting effective maternal emergency care in remote island regions. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted involving 30 midwives from public health centers across the Riau Islands Province in 2024. In addition, the manual was evaluated by an obstetrics and gynecology expert (SpOG) using Nielsen's heuristic usability principles. The data were analyzed using univariate descriptive statistics. Most midwives reported high satisfaction with the manual: 83.3% were "very satisfied" and 16.7% "satisfied". Across all SERVQUAL dimensions, the majority rated their satisfaction as "very satisfied", particularly in Responsiveness (80%) and Assurance (80%). No respondents reported dissatisfaction. Heuristic evaluation by the expert yielded consistently high scores, especially in "Match with real-world scenarios" and "Help and documentation" (mean score = 4.8). The expert confirmed the manual's clarity, relevance, and usability in maternal emergency situations. Conclusion:The Si-RUTAN manual book is a well-received, context-appropriate resource for midwives working in island regions. Its effectiveness in facilitating maternal emergency referrals and high usability rating suggest it should be promoted and continuously refined through user and expert input.

Abstract

One of the nutritional issues that toddlers face in today's society is the prevalence of short toddlers, often known as stunting. South Asia accounted for the biggest percentage of Asia's 83.6 million stunted toddlers (58.7%), while Central Asia had the lowest percentage (0.9%). The urgency of this research is the high number of stunting cases in Indonesia, where various risk factors for stunting since pregnancy are one of the focus problems that need to be considered. This study aims to determine the risk of stunting early in pregnant women through the SIDILAN early detection application. FGD and preliminary research are the first steps in the process, after which an application feasibility test is conducted. small sample user trials, followed by a quasi-experiment (pre-test post-test approach) to conduct further study. Pregnant Women with Stunting Incidents: An Early Detection Application Based on the High-Risk Early Detection Information System for Pregnant Women Referral System for the Islands (SDILAN) is an effective early detection tool for stunting in pregnant women, as shown by the p value = 0.000 from table 3 above which is smaller. Application SDILAN is thought to be more successful for monitoring and planning pregnant women because it can be completed anywhere and offers direct guidance from medical professionals. In the area of maternity and child health technology, this is also consistent with the medium-term development goals, which place an emphasis on early identification to deliver high-quality services to lower morbidity and mortality.
