Abstract

Background: Self-care behavior and diabetic management in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) tends to be low, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Various studies have found the influence of knowledge with self-care behavior diabetic management, as well as attitudes, motivation, family support and self-efficacy, but research analyzing the most dominant factors that play a role in influencing diabetic patients in self-care behavior and diabetic management is still limited.Purposes: Analyzing the factors that influence self-care behavior and diabetic management in diabetic patients. This study also analyzes the factor that play the most dominant role to influence self-care behavior and diabetic management in diabetic patients. Methods: This type of research is observational analytic with cross-sectional design. Patients of type 2 diabetes were the population in this study, with a sample size of 312 selected by convenience sampling. Factors of knowledge, attitude, motivation, family support and self-efficacy were observed in the study which were thought to be factors affecting self-care behavior diabetic management. The data were analyzed by chi square test and logistic regression. Results: The factors of knowledge, family support, and motivation significantly influence self-care behavior and diabetic management (p<0.05). The motivation factor is the most dominant factor affecting it (AOR 2.760; p<0.001).Conclusion: Good knowledge about diabetes management plus optimal family support and high motivation will improve self-care behavior and diabetic management in diabetic patients.

Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic, especially the Omicron variant, has had a broad impact on human life, especially on the economic and health aspects, including for nurses working on the front lines who are at risk of experiencing anxiety. This study aims to identify factors related to nurses' anxiety towards the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Methods: This study was conducted in Bangli Regency, Bali, Indonesia. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling with a sample size of 311 nurses. The instrument used was a questionnaire filled out by respondents via Google Forms. The analysis was univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression). Results: The results of this study found that 25.7% of respondents experienced anxiety towards the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Perception and completeness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) were significantly related to nurses' anxiety towards the Omicron variant of COVID-19. On the contrary, the work environment and history of comorbidities did not affect anxiety. Conclusion: The factors that most influence the level of nurses' anxiety are perception and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Abstract

Learning style is one of the main elements for students and lecturers to determine the right learning support. The VARK (Visual, Aural, Reading, Kinesthetic) approach is one approach that can be used to identify a person's learning style. Unfortunately, not everyone knows this approach to help determine their learning style. The purpose of this community service activity is to socialize and simulate the VARK approach in identifying learning styles. This activity was carried out in May 2024 at Itekes Bali, Denpasar, Indonesia. A total of 52 participants were involved in this activity, consisting of 42 students and 10 lecturers. Participants in this activity came from Itekes Bali, Denpasar, Indonesia, and from Saint Louis College, Bangkok, Thailand. This activity was carried out with the stages of Preparation, Action, Reflection and Evaluation (PARE). The results of the activity showed that most (67%) participants had insufficient knowledge about the VARK approach in identifying learning styles, and all participants (100%) participants succeeded in having good knowledge about the VARK approach in identifying their learning styles after this activity was carried out. The conclusion is that this educational and simulation activity has succeeded in increasing the knowledge of all participants about the VARK approach in identifying learning styles.

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia patients require lifelong care, which necessitates the family's ability to provide that care. Efforts to enhance the family's ability are carried out by giving psychoeducation to improve the skills of caring for schizophrenia patients. The problem with providing psychoeducation directly is that distance and time become obstacles; an effective, efficient, and easily accessible method can be achieved by utilizing information technology through online media. This scoping review aimed to identify the effectiveness of online psychoeducation in enhancing the ability of families to care for patients with schizophrenia. Methods:  This scoping review used the PICO framework to develop article questions. (P: family of schizophrenia patients, I: psychoeducation, C: online and offline, and O: family's ability to care for schizophrenia patients). The databases were PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The selected articles were published in the last 5 years, from 2019 to 2024. The keywords were used "psychoeducation" AND "online" AND "family capacity" AND "schizophrenia". Results: The search results found 434 articles, only 14 of which met the criteria (one article from PubMed, one article from Science Direct, and 12 articles from Google Scholar). There were four online psychoeducation articles and ten direct psychoeducation articles. All articles were experimental studies. The search results found that online psychoeducation was more effective in improving the ability of families to care for schizophrenia patients. Offline psychoeducation has the disadvantage of making it more difficult to get families to attend all therapy sessions, so in general, online psychoeducation is better because it makes it easier for families to engage in the therapy process, allowing them to complete all sessions. Conclusions: Offline psychoeducation has the disadvantage of requiring family members to attend all therapy sessions, so in general, online psychoeducation is better.

Abstract

Introduction: Palliative end-of-life care (PEOLC) is heavily impacted by culture and always discusses death, bereavement, uncertainty, loss, grief, and incurable disease. Long-term care and more culturally sensitive nursing care are essential to address the diverse needs of patients. This study aimed to develop a PEOLC model grounded in transcultural nursing principles, with a focus on enhancing the quality of care for patients requiring long-term support. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional explanatory design involving 180 patients with chronic illnesses as participants selected using simple random sampling. The proposed model involved eight variables: patient factors, nurse factors, service factors, family factors, technology factors, the PEOLC model, quality of life, and quality of death. A valid questionnaire was used to collect data, and we employed SEM-PLS to analyse the results. Results: The PEOLC model had an R2 value of 0.61. These findings showed that 60.1% of the variability of PEOLC variables was explained by the patient, family, nurse, service, and technology aspects. For each construct, a value of Q2 > 0 (0.083) indicated that the model was appropriate. The path coefficient value of 0.343 indicates that the service factors make the most significant contribution to the PEOLC model. Conclusions: This research led to the development of the PEOLC model, which comprises eight variables. It provides a comprehensive framework for integrating transcultural nursing principles into long-term care and emphasises the importance of cultural sensitivity in delivering personalised and effective end-of-life care.

Abstract

Health facilities are experiencing overcapacity, oxygen scarcity, and a limited number of healthcare providers due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), thus impacted on anxiety. This study aimed to determine predictors of anxiety among healthcare providers toward the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 371 healthcare providers in Java and Bali Islands, and the snowball sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire and distributed through social media (WhatsApp), then analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (Chi-square test), and multivariate analysis (multiple logistic regression). The results showed that 81 (21.8%) respondents experienced anxiety. The workplace (AOR: = 0.617; p-value = 0.011), a history of confirmed positive for COVID-19 (AOR = 2.965; p-value<0.001), and the respondent's comorbidities (AOR = 8.753; p-value<0.001) were significantly associated with anxiety toward the Delta variant. Healthcare managers must regularly evaluate the psychological condition of their subordinates during the COVID-19 pandemic so that anxiety can be detected and overcome early through constructive self-adaptation and positive coping mechanisms.
