Abstract

Rabies, transmitted through a bite from a dog, is a highly fatal disease that is a health hazard throughout the world including Indonesia. In February 2019, there was an outbreak of rabies at Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (WNT), Indonesia. As such, Dompu district has become one of the beginning points for many rabies cases being experienced in WNT. Lately, there have been fatal cases of the outbreak to the tune of 1,315 victims due to rabies-borne animal bite. Among these cases, nine of them are human rabies. Out of the 182 samples examined for brain rabid animal, 90 turned positive. Efforts from local, provincial, and federal agencies representatives activated a rabies response involving update of policies, enhancing of surveillance, a campaign to educate the public as well as widespread vaccination of domestic and wild animals. There has not been experienced a rabies outbreak like this in WNT region, Indonesia, over the years. Therefore, there require integration of all intervention strategies as well as a collaboration of all human health, animal health, and wildlife authority to bring to a halt the outbreak. Abstract

In 2016, Indonesia has been launching the “Indonesia Sehat'' program which the strategy used is to strengthen health services through a family approach. According to the 2016 Ministry of Health technical guidelines, the larva inspector, also known as Juru Pemantau Jentik (Jumantik), is involved in Jumantik participating by each family. Their role is the same as 3M plus actions including in the inspection, monitoring, and eradication of mosquito larvae for controlling infectious diseases, especially Dengue Fever. The purpose of these activities was to increase community participation to conduct a “one house one Jumantik'' program. The study was the quasi-experimental post-test only design that was located in Karangbesuki sub-district, Malang City from August until September 2017. One cluster Rukun Warga (RW) from the Karangbesuki sub-district that consisted of 9 Rukun Tetangga (RT) was chosen as the location. The intervention was in collaboration with Mulyorejo Public Health Center (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat / Puskesmas) in Malang. The methods used were ovitrap utilization training and focus group discussion (FGD), health promotion and "one-house one-Jumantik'' training program, also the contest to choose the best RT. The results of this activity succeeded in establishing a Jumantik team in each RT although there was one RT that has not yet succeeded in forming a team. Furthermore, for the sustainability of the program, it is hoped that this program could be improved by collaborating with Mulyorejo Puskesmas staff who monitor activities routinely through the integrated service post (Pos Pelayanan Terpadu / Posyandu).

Abstract

The development of current environmental problems raises the concerns of investors or hospital lenders about the potential financial problems resulting from current environmental problems. A sustainable health care system can achieve high-quality care and improve public health without wasting resources. The health service sector is continuously encouraged to apply the concept of "Green Hospital" which is one example of the continuity of health services. This research focuses on emission reduction management in health care facilities. This study examines several published papers containing the terms sustainable, green infrastructure, and energy management. Guidelines for Efficient and Sustainable Energy Management in Hospital Buildings is the selected article. The articles used were obtained from the Google Scholar database. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using tables. This study took data from three countries, namely Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia, based on our team's observations during a virtual hospital visit to the two countries (Thailand and Taiwan), which we then compared with most hospitals in Indonesia. Currently, there is no Green Hospital standard for each of these countries. The application of the green infrastructure concept can have a positive impact on cost efficiency and hospital sustainability. Energy Saving Opportunities (PHE) is one method that can be used to save energy use in hospitals. The way to do this is to control the use of infrastructure that consumes a lot of energy, such as the use of lights and Air Conditioners (AC), as well as other infrastructure that is not included in vital equipment.

Abstract

Background – The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the rate of medical waste generation in hospitals. The amount of medical waste generated during the COVID-19 pandemic must be followed by the handling of solid medical waste by standard operating procedures. Improper handling of solid medical waste will harm the environment and human health. This study aimed to determine the solid medical waste management strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods – This descriptive observational study was conducted at X Hospital, Pasuruan Regency. Data was collected using observation, interviews and secondary data collection during 2020 and 2021. Interview respondents were the Head of the Medical Support Division, the K3RS and B3 Admin sections and the PPI team leader. Results – There was an increase in the amount of solid medical waste during the COVID-19 pandemic, from an average of 2,495.87 kg in 2020 and 2509.41 kg in 2021. This problem was overcome by a strategy in solid waste management during the COVID-19 pandemic. The strategy was carried out at the sorting and storage stage, namely by involving the PPI team directly in waste management and regular and scheduled training for all Hospital X staff which had not been carried out before the pandemic; at the collection stage, namely by adding garbage collection to 3 (three) times a day according to the guard shift by using PPE level 2; and the waste transportation stage, the strategy adopted is to add a third party medical waste from 1 (one) to 3 (three). Conclusion – There was a change in strategy in the management of solid medical waste at Hospital X, Pasuruan Regency during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely at the stages of sorting and storing, storing and transporting waste. However, at the temporary collection stage, there was no change. Keywords – Solid medical waste, medical waste management, COVID-19 waste.

Abstract

Stunting prevalence in District Kalipare on February 2019 was about 14%. Based on the results of the preliminary studies, one of the obstacles to achieving a free stunting rate is caused by anthropometric measurement errors by cadres. The objective of this study was to compare cadres of District Kalipare anthropometric measurement results with medical profession students' anthropometric results using the Tikar Pendeteksi Stunting (TIPS). This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a non-randomized control group pretest-posttest design. The sample of toddlers is 51 toddlers. The experiment was carried out by training 50 community-based health or posyandu cadres who were representatives from 8 villages in Kalipare District. Of the 50 cadres, 25 were selected by purposive sampling according to posttest scores per village. The selected cadres were asked to measure 1-3 infants or toddlers who had previously been measured before attending the training. The variables studied were nutritional status and height. The results showed that the Kappa test obtained a value of p = 0.838 or very good agreement. This study concludes that the results of height measurements by toddler posyandu cadres are the same as or close to the results of height measurements carried out by medical profession students. Therefore, after they have received training, we can include posyandu cadres in measuring anthropometrics.
