Abstract

The process of comprehending a text in which the reader, the text, and the context interact is known as reading comprehension. Reading comprehension makes it easier for someone to understand what they are reading. The purpose of this study was to determine whether using technology-based learning resources may improve the reading comprehension of tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Botomuzoi in 2023–2024. Observation sheet exercises, tests, and field notes were used to gather data for this study, which aims to determine how technology-based learning materials might be used to enhance students' reading comprehension. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was the methodology employed in this study. Based on the findings of the first cycle, which had an average of 45% of students who responded to a test question, researchers completed their study in two cycles. Because the first cycle's value fell short of the 70% Minimum Competency Criteria, the researcher proceeded to the second cycle once the first cycle was finished.  The second cycle's average score for students who responded to the test questions was 85%. in order for students' reading comprehension to be enhanced through the use of technology-based learning resource.

The Kampus Mengajar program has become an important initiative to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the impact of the Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 program on the literacy and numeracy skills of 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Tuhemberua, North Nias Regency. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The 8th grade students consisted of 108 students, so the study population was all 8th grade students, while the sample was only 30 students. The researchers collected data using test techniques, then analyzed the data with descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' literacy and numeracy skills increased significantly after a series of Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 activities were carried out, where the average literacy score increased from 38.17 in the pretest to 55.83 in the posttest, and the numeracy score increased from 16.83 in the pretest to 64.17 in the posttest. This program also provides students with direct community service experience. However, collaboration between students and schools needs to be strengthened to ensure the sustainability of the program. Future research is expected to include more schools and more detailed factors to measure the success of this Teaching Campus program as a whole.

Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of using descriptive texts to improve English vocabulary acquisition at SMP Negeri 2 Hiliduho. Motivated by students’ limited vocabulary mastery, which hinders their comprehension and writing of descriptive texts, the research employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving seventh-grade participants. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that descriptive texts provide meaningful context, aiding students in understanding and retaining new vocabulary. The inclusion of media such as images and videos further supports vocabulary learning by enhancing engagement and comprehension. Despite these benefits, challenges persist, including low motivation, repetitive instructional methods, and insufficient use of media, which limit students’ ability to relate new vocabulary to real-life contexts. Nevertheless, students expressed generally positive perceptions, noting that descriptive texts made learning more interactive, enjoyable, and useful for vocabulary development and writing improvement. The study recommends that teachers regularly integrate descriptive texts with visual aids and interactive strategies to foster greater student motivation and participation. These findings contribute to the advancement of more effective and engaging English language teaching practices at the junior high school level.
