Abstract

The Fishermen's Joint Business Group is a local institution that plays a vital role in sustainable blue swimming crab fishing practices. This study aims to analyze the institution structure of the Joint Business Group in supporting sustainable blue swimming crab fishing efforts in Kuala Teladas Village, Tulang Bawang Regency. This research is a qualitative study whose data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation study. Data were analyzed to examine the institution and organization structure of the group. The study results show that the Joint Business Group is vital as a collective forum for fishermen to discuss, share information, and access crab resources. The group's simple organization structure with clear rights, obligations, and sanctions in the Articles of Association/Bylaws encourages active participation by members. The implementation of blue swimming crab management policies has brought positive changes to fishermen's behaviour, especially in the use of environmentally friendly fishing gear. However, significant challenges include economic pressures during the lean season, lack of alternative livelihoods, and weak supervision. Increasing the institution capacity of Joint Business Groups is carried out through collaboration between non-governmental organizations, fisheries extension, and the government. This is implemented through socialization, training, and mentoring in organization management, leadership, and business diversification. Grant assistance and alternative business training for fishermen have strengthened the economic position of fishermen. Increasing institution capacity through collaboration with various stakeholders is key to supporting the socio-economic sustainability of fishermen and sustainable blue swimming crab fishing efforts.

The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was obtained by in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis; Furthermore, it was analyzed to explain the access to capital of small fishermen. The results of the study show that most small fishermen have difficulties accessing capital through banks. Most of them access non-formal capital, such as mobile lending, a door-to-door system known as bank keliling, loan sharks, Madani Mekaar National Capital, Syariah National Retirement Savings Bank, and Amartha. In addition, fishermen were used to borrowing money from skippers, subscription stalls, or their families to meet their needs at sea. They need the government’s support and mentoring in accessing bank capital to develop their businesses. Capital difficulties for fishermen’s businesses should be evaluated by banks to provide a more flexible system that is easily accessible.

Abstract

Tourism suitability analysis is important to determine the suitability of an area for beach recreation according to its ecological carrying capacity. This study aims to analyze the suitability and carrying capacity of the ecotourism area at Minang Rua Beach, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. Data collection of physical parameters of the beach was carried out using the field observation method. Data were analyzed using the tourism suitability index and area carrying capacity. The results showed that the ecotourism suitability index for beach recreation at Minang Rua Beach at station 1 was 2.875, at station 2 was 3.000, and at station 3 was 2.430. The level of suitability for beach recreation at Stations 1 and 2 was categorized as very suitable (S1), while at Station 3 was categorized as suitable (S2). The carrying capacity of the area at Minang Rua Beach for beach recreation activities at Station 1 was 119 people/day, at Station 2 was 364 people/day and at Station 3 was 158 people/day. The managers of this area are expected to be able to implement tourism activities according to their ecological carrying capacity so that their sustainability can be maintained.

Abstract

Exploration of microorganisms containing secondary metabolite compounds with antimicrobial properties, especially in marine fish pathogenic bacteria, is urgently required. This study aims to test the antibacterial effectiveness of endophytic fungal extracts from the mangrove plant Rhizopora apiculata in the Petengoran Mangrove Forest against pathogenic bacteria in marine fish such as V. alginolyticus and P. damselae spp. The endophytic fungal isolate found was a fungus from the genus Aspergillus sp after observing its morphological form macroscopically and microscopically. Ethyl acetate extract of mangrove endophytic fungi with a concentration of 500 µg/disc and 1000 µg/disc was dripped onto a 6mm paper disc and then placed on the pathogenic bacterial isolate. Measurement of the diameter of the clear zone produced around the paper disc after 24 hours concluded that the antibacterial effectiveness of the endophytic fungal extract against V. alginolyticus was 27.27% (500 µg/disc) and 32.32% (1000 µg/disc). Meanwhile, its effectiveness against P. damselae spp is 27.27% (500 µg/disc) and 34.82% (1000 µg/disc). The isolate extract from the endophytic fungus Aspergillus in this study has the potential to produce antibacterial compounds in marine fish pathogens.
