Abstract

Currently, digital games dominate 21st-century classrooms; however, non-digital games remain valuable for promoting language learning, especially in areas with limited internet access. This study aimed to determine whether the Word Connection Game can enhance students’ vocabulary mastery. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two randomly selected classes: X M4 as the experimental group (28 students) and X M1 as the control group (28 students). Both groups were administered pre-tests and post-tests to collect data. The findings showed that the experimental group achieved a higher average post-test score (87.61) compared to the control group (60.68). The Mann–Whitney U test indicated a statistically significant difference between the groups (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed = 0.000 < 0.05), supporting the alternative hypothesis. These results demonstrate that the Word Connection Game is an effective and engaging non-digital approach for enhancing students’ vocabulary skills. The study highlights that traditional game-based strategies remain valuable for fostering active learning and vocabulary retention, even in the digital era.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has accelerated media convergence, positioning Instagram and YouTube as strategic platforms for visual and audiovisual news distribution in line with modern audience consumption patterns. This study examines Liputan 6 SCTV’s Instagram and YouTube distribution strategies and their impact on audience engagement, content reach, and news visibility in the digital media landscape. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documents. The findings indicate that Liputan 6SCTV’s content distribution strategies embody a multidimensional form of media convergence that integrates technological, editorial, and cultural aspects. Nine key strategies were identified: information speed, visual strength, time relevance, SEO optimization, adaptive formats, interactivity, persuasive Calls-to-Action (CTA), networked collaboration, and cross-platform integration. These strategies collectively enhance visibility, engagement, and brand identity while fostering active audience participation. The synergy between Instagram and YouTube illustrates a paradigm shift in journalism toward a collaborative, participatory model within the evolving digital media ecosystem. This study advances media convergence and digital journalism by showing how broadcast media use cross-platform strategies to enhance engagement and relevance.

Abstract

This study examines the spiritual values embedded in the death voyage rituals practiced by the Sasak community in Desa Sintung, Pringgarata Sub-district, Central Lombok. Rooted deeply in Sasak traditions, these rituals are seen as a means to pray for the deceased's peaceful journey to the afterlife and as social gatherings that strengthen communal bonds within the community. Using a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the data analysis techniques of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the death voyage rituals are conducted on the eighth day after death and continue weekly on the same day until the fortieth day. The rituals encompass various spiritual values, including religious, moral, empirical, and aesthetic elements. These practices remain ongoing and are viewed positively by the community. This study highlights the continuity of these rituals, reflecting the Sasak community's dedication to preserving and practicing their unique cultural identity.

Abstract

Journalists often observe Indonesia’s elections at close range in real time: gathering data, verifying facts, writing, and publishing accounts of the process. Yet research on journalists’ perceptions of elections remains limited and is usually framed through institutional or media-company perspectives. This study explores how journalists perceived the 2024 general election. Using a phenomenological design, it captured meanings drawn from reporters’ lived experiences of covering the election. Data were generated through in-depth interviews and thematic interpretation of their narratives. Informants were selected purposively: six political reporters in Mataram City from six different media outlets. Findings show a tendency toward negative perceptions of key stages, including presidential–vice presidential nominations, voter-list verification, the cooling-off period, and vote recapitulation. Journalists described the process as still centralized, viewed candidate selection as an economic contest rather than an ideas-driven one, and characterized the cooling-off period as chaotic. The study’s novelty lies in centering local journalists’ individual experiences across nearly all election stages, contrasting with prior work that emphasizes news content, normative journalistic roles, or media–elite relations.
