Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is one of the endemic diseases that continues to increase in various tropical regions, including Kaliorang East Kutai. This study is an observational analytical study with a control case approach, which was carried out from December 2023 to March 2024 in the work area of the UPT BLUD Kaliorang Health Center, East Kutai. The data used is secondary data from the 2021-2022 health report and the results of field observations. Data collection methods include environmental surveys, interviews, and spatial analysis using QGIS and GeoDa software. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between breeding place (OR = 8,636), resting place (OR = 4,000), and population density (OR = 5,921) with the incidence of dengue. In contrast, the 4M action did not show a significant relationship (OR = 1,000). The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of environmental management and increasing public awareness in the prevention of dengue fever in densely populated areas.

Abstract

Background: Mental disorders affect approximately 20% of Indonesia’s population, with East Kalimantan reporting 2,679 cases, including 130 in the Sangatta Utara area. Despite the growing awareness of the critical role families play in supporting individuals with mental disorders, there is a still lack of studies that specifically explore family responses, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the factors that are associated with family responses to individuals living with severe mental disorders in Sangatta Utara, East Kalimantan. Methods: This observational and cross-sectional study targeted 130 families of individuals diagnosed with severe mental disorders. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square tests and binary logistic regression. This statistical model aimed to identify the factors most influential on family responses. Results: Significant associations were found between family burden, social support, and family responses to individuals with severe mental disorders. The analysis revealed that family burden was strongly associated with positive family responses (Exp(B) = 24.22, p = 0.002), indicating that higher caregiving burden significantly increased the likelihood of positive family responses. Similarly, social support showed a significant positive association with family responses (Exp(B) = 5.19, p = 0.040).Conclusion: Family burden and social support are important factors that influence family responses to severe mental disorders. This study emphasizes and suggests the importance of targeted family counseling and community-based support programs in North Sangatta.

Stunting is not only influenced by the nutritional intake of pregnant women and children but also by maternal nutrition in the period before pregnancy, especially in the pre- conception period, namely women of childbearing age and adolescent girls. As many as 48.9% of pregnant women suffer from anemia, and some others experience chronicenergy deficiency (CED). This causes the prevalence of babies with low birth weight (LBW), which is one of the main causes of stunting, to remain high. to educate and assist adolescent girls and pregnant women in enhancing theirunderstanding of stunting and anemia prevention, as well as to improve adherence to iron supplement intake via TASTING applications. Pre-post group design. Twenty-eight adolescent and pregnant women received education on anemia, stunting, and iron supplement consumption via PowerPoint presentations, supplemented with leaflets andpocketbooks. Additionally, initial hemoglobin levels were assessed. Adolescent girls with anemia and all pregnantwomen were monitored to ensure the consumption of iron tablets for one month through a medication reminder application. One month post-therapy, hemoglobin levels were reassessed, and instrument filling was conducted toevaluate compliance levels. Based on the average knowledge score of adolescent girls, there was an increase in knowledge of 12.31%, from 76.15% to 88.46%. While in pregnant women there was an increase of 15.6%, from 84.44%to 100%. After assistance with iron tablet consumption for 1 month, 100% of adolescent girls and pregnant women experienced an increase in Hb levels > 12 g/dL, where the average level of compliance increased by 26.67%, from the previous 66.66% to 93.33%. Abstract

Youth Information and Counseling Centers (YICC) im to enhance adolescents’ reproductive health knowledge through peer-based education. Despite their significance, the effectiveness of such programs remains inadequately evaluated, especially in Indonesia, where adolescent reproductive health challenges, such as early marriage and HIV/AIDS, persist. This study explores the relationship between YICC participation and adolescents’ knowledge of HIV/AIDS and early marriage prevention in East Kalimantan. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 830 adolescents aged 10-24 using a validated online questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis tests, ANCOVA, and logistic regression were employed to analyze knowledge differences and predictors, controlling for sociodemographic factors. Results revealed that 71.8% of adolescents were aware of YICC, yet only 38.2% participated in its activities, and 21.4% were formal members. YICC participants showed significantly greater knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the ideal marriage age (p < 0.01), though no significant differences were found in attitudinal scores. ANCOVA indicated that YICC participation was an important predictor of knowledge, even after adjusting for parental education, internet access, and residence. Logistic regression further showed that YICC participants were 1.9 times more likely to possess high knowledge compared to non-participants (AOR = 1.90; 95% CI: 1.30-2.70; p = 0.001). Key predictors of higher knowledge included parental education, internet access, and urban residence. These findings highlight the importance of increasing YICC participation and integrating digital and school-based strategies to enhance adolescent reproductive health education.

Abstract

Abstract

Background : Stunting is a condition of impaired growth in children under five (toddlers) resulting from chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections. This condition adversely affects the development of cognitive and physical abilities. Stunting prevention necessitates a multisectoral approach, including improvement in nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, maternal and child health, and socioeconomic factors. The main challenge of controlling stunting is the complexity of its determinants, including direct factors such as inadequate nutritional intake and indirect factors such as poverty and low education (Black et al., 2013; UNICEF, 2019). Objective : The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of Tim Pendamping Keluarga (TPK) in executing the accelerated stunting reduction program in Kutai Kartanegara Regency in 2024 Research Methods/ Implementation : a quantitative descriptive approach, utilizing monitoring data, TPK output achievements, and verification across districts and sub-districts ResultsThe analysis revealed the highest accompaniment rate for children under two at 86.84%, followed by at-risk prospective spouses at 81.45%, postpartum women at 71.62%, and the lowest for pregnant women at 25.32%. The Pearson correlation between the target numbers and those who were affected is quite strong for children under two (R=0.99), spouses (R=0.98), and postpartum women (R=0.95), and lower for pregnant women (R=0.76), indicating implementation gaps in accompaniment for pregnant women. The synergy of KRS (At-Risk Families) data collection and verification through Elsimil, together with cross-sector collaboration, contributed to a reduction in the stunting prevalence in Kutai Kartanegara (from 27.1% in 2022 to 14.3% in 2024), although increasing accompaniment coverage for pregnant women remains a priority for improvement, with Kutai Kartanegara serving as a leading example in East Kalimantan. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Nevertheless, optimizing TPK resources remains a major concern. Accompaniment coverage for pregnant women must be strengthened in parallel with other targets, supported by TPK training or capacity building, supervision, and improvements in data integration systems so that the Kutai Kartanegara accompaniment model can be adopted as a national best practice for stunting reduction.

Abstract

Background : Maternal mortality remains a major public health challenge in East Kalimantan Province, despite a decline in reported cases from 83 deaths in 2023 to 74 deaths in 2024. Objective : This study aimed to describe the pattern of maternal deaths based on maternal characteristics, timing and place of death, and to analyze preventable factors through the Audit Maternal Perinatal Surveillance and Response (AMP-SR) approach. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : A descriptive-analytic case series design was applied using secondary data from the East Kalimantan Maternal Perinatal Death Notification (MPDN) database for 2023–2024. Results : The results revealed that more than 51% of deaths occurred during the postpartum period and 77% took place in hospitals, indicating the predominance of Delay 3 (delays in receiving adequate care). Analysis of modifiable factors showed that most deaths were preventable through improvements in the quality of obstetric services, increased antenatal care (ANC) compliance, and strengthened referral and postnatal follow-up systems. The major risk factors included delays in family decision-making, weak interfacility referral coordination, and inadequate case management at referral hospitals. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : These findings highlight that reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio in East Kalimantan requires the completion of 100% AMP-SR case reviews, the strengthening of Postnatal Care (PNC) implementation, and the enhancement of Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) capacity across all levels of healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Background : Efficient hospital resource planning, including staff allocation and pharmaceutical logistics, heavily relies on accurate patient visit volume forecasting. Daily outpatient visit data at Regional Hospital from January 2023 to February 2025 shows high volatility and a strong weekly pattern (5-day work cycle). Therefore, a forecasting method is needed that can describe the patterns and trends of patient visits based on historical data. Methods commonly used for time series forecasting is ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average). This model is capable of capturing seasonal patterns and trends within the data, making it useful for predicting the number of future visits with a high level of accuracy. Objective : This study aims to identify the most optimal time series forecasting model using internal seasonal SARIMA and external regression SARIMAX analysis. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : This study design is repeated cross-sectional. Outpatient visit data was divided into training (2023-2024) and testing (January-February 2025) sets for accuracy validation, measured by Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). Results : In the first stage, the seasonal ARIMA model without explanatory variables, namely ARIMA(0,0,1)(2,1,0)[5], passed the Ljung-Box diagnostic test (p>0.05) but showed low predictive accuracy (RMSE 281.01). The second stage involved using explanatory (exogenous) variables such as Monday, Friday, and Public Holidays. A regression model with ARIMA(0,1,1) errors was identified as the superior model with an RMSE of 194.39. Regression coefficients showed a significant impact from specific days: Monday (+50 visits, 95% CI 32, 68), Friday (-91 visits, 95% CI -73, -109), and Public Holidays (-489 visits, 95% CI -463, -516). ConclusioAlthough the Ljung-Box test resulted in p<0.05, indicating that there are still residuals not fully explained by the model, it still provides important insights for hospital operational planning.n/Lesson Learned :
