Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is important for the quality of children's health. Nevertheless, the proportion of exclusive breastfeeding at the Malinau City Health Center stands at a mere 45.6 percent, falling short of the 50 percent benchmark set by the World Health Organization (WHO). nursing self-efficacy is a significant element that affects nursing behavior. This study aims to determine the factors related to breastfeeding self-efficacy. This study was cross-sectional, with a sample of 147 mothers obtained by purposive sampling. Breastfeeding Self Efficacy (BSE) is measured using the Breastfeeding Self Efficacy Short-Form. Data was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between breastfeeding problems (p-value equals 0.001), family support (p-value equals 0.001), and health worker support (p-value equals 0.001) with breastfeeding self-efficacy. It is concluded that breastfeeding problems, family support, and health worker support were factors related to breastfeeding self-efficacy in breastfeeding mothers. Therefore, health workers and families are expected to support mothers when they have breastfeeding problems

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior has become a significant social issue among adolescents in Indonesia, particularly concerning the high rates of child marriage and unintended pregnancies. Despite efforts to promote Marriage Maturity to reduce these rates, its effectiveness requires further investigation, especially in the context of adolescent motivation to avoid risky sexual behavior. This study aims to explore adolescent motivation to avoid premarital sexual behavior by applying the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), which involves threat appraisal and coping appraisal in adolescent decision-making to delay early marriage. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Informant consisted of adolescents aged 15-19 years in Samarinda City who had received information about marriage maturity. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with six purposively selected Informant using intensity sampling techniques. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and documentation. Collected data were analyzed using QSR NVIVO 12 Pro. The findings reveal that adolescents’ understanding of marriage maturityis still limited, and the threat of premarital sexual behavior is perceived as low by most Informant. Factors such as perceptions of severity adolescents are quite good because they have seen firsthand the impacts of premarital sex. For response efficacy and self-efficacy in delaying the age of marriage, these are relatively high among adolescents exposed to PUP. This is because they have parental and peer support providing information related to PUP. Additionally, social environment, media exposure, and education levels shape adolescents' responses to marriage maturityas a protective measure.

Abstract

Pregnant women who infected by malaria were three times more likely to suffer from other diseases. This study aimed to explore Kutai cultural perspectives, behaviors, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and barriers, perceived threat and cues to action associated with malaria in pregnancy. The qualitative study was conducted through indepth interviews of 37 informants consist of maternal, their husbands, health workers and local community leaders. This study revealed that malaria was not a threat because of the perception that malaria only exposed in forest. The community already had good health seeking behavior. All informants knew that malaria as a dangerous disease especially during pregnancy but no one knew malaria in pregnancy can cause anemia, low birth weight, miscarriage and stillbirth. At the individual level, almost all informants have taken preventive health behavior using mosquito nets, mosquito electric, repellent lotion, and burning dried leaves. At the community level prevention activities called gotong royong (all members of community work together) to keep the environment clean to reduce the mosquito breeding place was rarely done.

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia's capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan Province has significantly affected land use, particularly in forests and agricultural resources. This study examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of land cover in the forestry and agricultural sectors within Kutai Kartanegara Regency of East Kalimantan Province. The goal is to support the smart forest city concept and enhance food sources within Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). Data related to geographical (location) and temporal (time) were analyzed using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, enabling the mapping, overlaying, and analyzing spatial data over time. The findings show that Kutai Kartanegara has 30% forested areas and 7% agricultural land. There are eight districts with dryland forests, seven with mangrove forests, and fourteen with swamp forests. The study identifies fourteen districts nominated for dryland agriculture, nine for rice fields, and seven for aquaculture. However, forest cover in both drylands and wetlands has been declining annually. Additionally, the study pinpointed potential areas for urban forest development in Tabang District and locations for food production in Anggana, Samboja, and Muara Badak. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers to optimize land allocation, ensuring sustainable resource management in the evolving ecosystems of the new capital. Abstract

Introduction: HIV is a serious global health problem that requires immediate attention due to its increasing prevalence. Indonesia having one of the highest numbers of cases, while East Kalimantan was one of the provinces with a high number of cases. The availability of HIV testing and counseling services at RSUD Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie enabled the researchers to analyze factors that influence HIV occurrence. This study aimed to find a prediction model for HIV status. Methods: This cross-sectional study used secondary data from 7,589 individuals from the Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Clinic of RSUD Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie from June to December 2023. Data were collected from January to March 2024. The data were analysed using the logistic regression method. Results: It was shown that age, injection drug use, and types of sexual behavior were significantly associated to HIV status. The obtained binary logistic regression model is: HIV status = -4.729-0,032 (age) + 6,862 (injection drug use) + 6,173 (type of sexual behavior). This model could explain 53.8 percent of the variation in HIV status based on the independent variables, with injection drug use as the dominant variable. Injection drug use and risky sexual behavior were significant factors of HIV status. Conclusion: Injection drug users were at greater risk of HIV infection, with the highest odds ratio, followed by persons with risky sexual behavior. Further intervention efforts through expanding service coverage and diagnostic testing for key populations to prevent HIV transmission is needed

Abstract

The negative stigma attached to people living with HIV/AIDS makes people reluctant to take an HIV test for fear of positive results and fears of rejection by their potential sexual partners. This stigma occurs because of lack of knowledge and mass media/information exposure about HIV/AIDS. The study aimed to obtain a binary logistic regression prediction model and determinant that influence the stigma of eligible women (15-49 years) against people living with HIV/AIDS in East Kalimantan Province. The study used a cross sectional study design and data analysis method with binary logistic regression. This study employed data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2017 with 1096 sample. Study result showed 53% eligible woman had a high stigma. Knowledge and marital status has a significant effect on stigma towards people living with HIV/AIDS. The result of Binary Logistic Regression model revealed g(x) = 0.096+ 0.578 (knowledge) – 0.329 (marital status). The model is in accordance with the predictor variables entered into the model, It can explain 3,4 percent diversity and has a 57,2 percent classification accuracy. Therefore are need knowledge improvement and the positive stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS to reduce the stigma towards people living with HIV/AIDS

Abstract

Indonesia has the largest number of smokers in the world, ranking third after India and China. Pregnant women have an important role as they are caregivers and can influence their husbands to quit smoking. Indonesia has the third largest number of smokers in the world, with 33.5% of the Indonesian population smoking, posing health risks. Family support is needed in smoking cessation efforts, especially for fathers or husbands. The purpose of this study was to conduct a reliability test analysis and establish validity must be done to ensure the instrument provides accurate and consistent results. This research design is a cross-sectional survey study or data collection at one time to test the validity and reliability of the research questionnaire with the title Participation of Pregnant Mothers in the Efforts of Fathers to Stop Smoking to Prevent Stunting through the Health Belief Model Approach. The validity-reliability study was conducted on pregnant women at the Palaran Community Health Center in Samarinda City, Indonesia, which was conducted in September 2024 in a group of pregnant women who had smoking husbands as many as 30 respondents. The findings of this study revealed that the validity values obtained varied between a minumum of 0.001 and a maximum of 0.97. In addition, the reliability of the seven variables was assessed using Cronbach's alpa coefficient, which yielded values above 0.7. Therefore, this tool can be a valuable tool to measure the participation behavior of pregnant women in efforts to help their husbands stop smoking for stunting prevention.
