Abstract

Pamelo is one of the oranges species which have variety of form, size, colour and taste. Most of the pamelo cultivars with seeds, while part of it is seedless. The concumen prefer to chose seedles than with seed because they could consume more. The research proposed to know the morphologycal and chemical characteristics of pamelo with seed and seedless. Characteristication done in RGCI and port harvesting laboratory at IPB to the Pamelo come from Sumedang, Pati, Kudus, Magetan, Aceh and Pangkep (South Sulaewsi) in the period of April 2009 until July 2010. The result of research shown that several pamelo seedless cultivars have pyriform, while other with seed have spheroid form. A few fruit from pamelo seedless cultivars have sweet taste until less taste, with pH of its juice vary from 6.2-6.3, except Jawa cultivar which have pH 4 which its total tertiration acid is 0.47- 0.50 g/g, PTT 9.8- 11.0 ( 0brix), PTT/ATT 19,5-25,3. Vitamine C content 38-48.2 mg/100 g and narigin content from 118,3-1063,2 mg/ml, while pamelo with seed have taste sweet acid, with fruit juice pH 3.7 - 4.7, except "red bali 1", which have pH 6.0, ATT 0,35 - 0,59 g/g, PTT 8.7 - 11.3 ( 0brix), PTT/ATT 16.9 - 24.6, vita mine C content 28.6 - 43.8 and narigin content 55.2 - 461.2 mg/ml.

Abstract

Ambon Forest nutmeg (Myristica fatua Houtt) is one of the endemic plants in Indonesia. The morphological characteristic of Ambon Forest nutmeg is slightly different from that of Banda nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt) i.e., it is not used as spices, but its oil is used as a lamp oil. This study aimed to determine the chemical components and essential oils of Ambon Forest nutmeg derived from its seeds, mace, and flesh compared to Banda nutmeg. Extractions of essential oils were performed using a steam hydro-distillation. Analysis of chemical compositions and contents of essential oil was carried out using a Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) instrument and SNI 06-2388-2006 method. The essential oil contents in Ambon Forest nutmeg were relatively low, i.e., 0.63% in the seeds, 0.30% in the mace, and 0.04% in the flesh compared to Banda nutmeg i.e., 1% in the seeds, 40% in the mace, and 3.5% in the fruit flesh. The chemical compositions of essential oils showed that M. fatua Houtt contained 12 compounds in the seeds, 24 compounds in the mace, and 17 compounds in the fruit flesh, while for Banda Nutmeg, the contents of essential oils were found 18 compounds in the seeds, 10 compounds in the mace, and 15 compounds in the fruit flesh. M. fatua Houtt contained the highest Copaene, i.e., 28.41% in the seeds, 10.42% in the mace, and 23.33% in the fruit flesh. Myristicin, as the main marker compound of nutmeg oil, was also found in Ambon Forest nutmeg i.e., 1.3% in the seeds, 1.16% in the mace, and 5.19% in the fruit flesh. However, these results showed lower contents when compared to Banda nutmeg with Myristicin contents of 8.72% in the seeds, 10.14% in the mace, and 10.46% in the fruit flesh. Keywords: Essential oil, Myristica fatua Houtt, Myristica fragrans Houtt, Nutmeg

Abstract

Abiu (Pouteria caimito Radlk.) is a plant of Sapotaceae family that can be consumed fresh, processed, or as a medical product. The fruit and leaves of this plant contain bioactive compounds. This research aims to inform the interaction between leaf:fruit ratio treatment and foliar fertilizer on the quality of the abiu fruit. The study was conducted at Kebun Balungbang Jaya, Dramaga, Bogor, West Java Province, from July 2022 to November 2022. The experiment used a factorial split plot design. The main plot was a leaf:fruit ratio treatment (N1, 45 leaves:1 fruit, and N2, 30 leaves:1 fruit) on each tertiary branch, and the tiller plot was foliar fertilizer (P1: 1 g L-1, P2: 2 g L-1, and P3: 3 g L-1), which consisted of 3 replications. The results showed that treatment of the leaf-fruit ratio and foliar fertilizer did not affect the quality of the abiu fruit. The interaction between leaf:fruit ratio and foliar fertilizer had a significant effect on ATT, as indicated by the lowest acidity value in the leaf:fruit ratio treatment of 45:1 and a fertilizer concentration of 1 g L-1 with a value of 0.12% but has no significant effect on the external and internal quality of other fruits. Keywords: Bioactive compounds, sapotaceae, tertiary branch, titratable acidity
