Abstract

The study aims to learn what mathematical concepts are found in traditional game tools (hula hoop, the tray, and the kite) and to learn the contribution of ethnomathematics to traditional game tools for elementary school education. It was a qualitative study using an ethnographic approach. Research subjects were 7 elementary school students (a 3rd class student, three 4th graders, and three 6th graders) in the village neighborhood of sirnoboyo and two elementary school teachers (a class 4 teacher and a class 5 teacher). Sampling technique used to determine student subjects. The data collection methods used observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis suggests that: 1) the traditional game hula hoop, the tray, and the kite were responsible for the mathematical concepts. The mathematical concept of the traditional game tool was line, Angle, point of view, and get up flat. 2) traditional game tools as hula hoop, bakiak, and kites have contributed as a source of mathematical learning at elementary school. 3) the character traditional game hula hoop, the bakiak, and the kite were self-sufficiency, confidence, teamwork, and unity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the efforts of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering students’ sense of respect toward teachers at SMPS Dewantara, Langkat. In the context of character education, respect is not merely understood as a form of politeness but as a fundamental moral value rooted in Islamic teachings. This research is motivated by the observed decline in students’ respectful attitudes, as reflected in daily behaviors such as a lack of courtesy and low levels of obedience toward teachers. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of PAI teachers and students. The collected data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that PAI teachers play a highly strategic role in instilling respectful attitudes in students, particularly through exemplary behavior, the habituation of positive conduct, the integration of religious values into the learning process, and emotional approaches that build close relationships with students. Students’ respect is demonstrated through behaviors such as greeting teachers, listening attentively, using polite language, and complying with school regulations. This study concludes that fostering respect requires the active involvement of teachers as well as support from a conducive school environment.

Abstract

The yakisugi is a japan method on wood finishing that enhances an esthetic, dimension stability and durability. Yakisugi methode traditionally carried out by tying three boards together to form an elongated triangle and then burning until black charcoal is evenly created on the wood surface. Thes method has not been extensively researched or industrialized in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the quality of yakisugi finishing on pine wood with parameters such as the length of the burning process (20 seconds and 30 seconds on a 70 cm2 area). The results showed that the pine wood burning process produced higher dimensional stability than pine without burning treatment, with ASE values reaching about 56% at a burning time of 30''.  Meanwhile, in the mechanical properties test, the yakisugi method provides lower values of MOE and MOR than the control sample—the change in wood properties to become more brittle after combustion is the main reason for this phenomenon. The combustion characteristics show that the combustion duration does not give a different color change in the test sample after the charcoal cleaning process. However, the thickness of the charcoal produced at 30" showed a higher value of 4.5 mm.
