Abstract

Abstract

Adverse events, particularly falls and medication errors, remain a significant challenge in elderly patient care at home. The Peer to Peer Safety Companion (P2PSC) intervention leverages peer support to enhance patient engagement and safety vigilance. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of P2PSC in reducing fall risk and improving medication adherence among elderly patients at home. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involved 56 elderly participants receiving P2PSC support for 4 days over 2 weeks. Data analysis revealed significant reductions in fall incidents (p=0.001) and improvements in medication adherence (p=0.001). Mean fall risk scores decreased from 12.5 to 9.2, while medication adherence scores increased from 72.5 to 81.3. The P2PSC intervention effectively enhances safety management for elderly patients and is recommended as a supplementary standard in geriatric care management at home.

Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Obesity has become a global health problem that requires sustainable intervention. This activity aims to build active movement habits in obese people through the implementation of the "Sit Less, Move More" program. The purpose of this activity is to reduce daily sitting time by up to 30 minutes, increase light to moderate physical activity, and create an environment that supports healthy behavior. Method: Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with clear and measurable stages. There were 22 obese participants who voluntarily participated in the program for 9 weeks. Results: Shows Knowledge About the Dangers of Sedentary Behavior and the Importance of Physical Activity has increased before and after the program, the physical activity of respondents has changed from mostly having moderate activity to high physical activity, There is a change in BMI Obesity level II (≥30.0) to Obesity level 1 (25.0-29.9) as many as 3 people. Discussion: The advantages of this program are small movements that are easily integrated into daily routines, which are more sustainable than heavy exercise that requires time and additional costs, and teaches that every movement is very important so as to change the perception that physical activity can only be done with exercise in fitness centers. This program creates collective awareness and social support among participants, which is the key to the sustainability of the intervention. It is recommended to continue this program with a longer duration for long-term impact evaluation, further research is needed to identify factors that influence the sustainability of healthy behavior after the program is completed. Abstract

Objective: The quality and quantity of chicken sperm are critical factors influenced by the semen collection method. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the sperm quality obtained from three native chicken breeds using the female teaser method. Methods: These three native chicken breeds are Arabic, Birma, and Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) chickens. Each breed comprised a group of three roosters, and the semen collection was performed ten times. Macroscopic and microscopic evaluations were conducted to assess the chicken sperm. The collected data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT).Result: The results of this study showed significant differences (P<0.05) in the sperm volume among the chicken breeds, with Birma (0.51 ml) and KUB chickens (0.60 ml) exhibiting distinct volumes compared to Arabic chicken (0.25 ml). Generally, the chicken sperm exhibited a milky white color and thick consistency. Microscopic evaluation yielded a mass motility rating of 3+. Meanwhile, individual motility and viability did not exhibit significant differences (P>0.05) among the three native chicken breeds. Abnormalities displayed significant variations (P<0.05), with Birma chicken showing the highest abnormality rate at 9.77%± 0.28. Sperm concentration did not exhibit significant differences (P>0.05), with the highest concentration observed in Arabic chicken at 4265.33±59.84 (x106 cells/ml). However, total sperm count and total motile sperm count exhibited significant variations (P<0.05), with the highest values recorded in KUB chicken at 2241.82±264.13 (x106 cells) and 1936.27±169.85 (x106 cells), respectively. Conclusions: In conclusion, the semen collection method using the female teaser yielded native chicken sperm with high quality and quantity and meets the required standards for successful insemination. This method holds potential and is recommended for application in native chicken breeding programs.
