Abstract

Instrument is one of the supports of learning success. Assessment of student knowledge will encourage students to get better grades and will have an impact on increasing student knowledge. This study aims to develop the instruments of critical thinking skills and the ecosystem concept mastery. The instruments produced were an essay test adopted from Facione and a multiple-choice test adopted from Anderson & Krathwohl. This research was conducted on September 2018 - October 2019 with 37 tenth-grade students as the sample. The research method used was the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), however this research did not do the disseminate stage due to the limitation of time. The results showed that the instruments are feasible with the results of expert validation of 81.03 and 85.00 respectively. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the developed instruments could be used to measure the critical thinking skills and mastery of concepts. However, these tests must be developed further in large classes with more students.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding in biology is crucial for addressing global and complex issues. However, students often struggle to grasp biological concepts, thus requiring the support of interactive and engaging learning media. This study aims to develop and evaluate a gamification-based learning approach using PowerPoint media to enhance conceptual understanding of biodiversity, specifically the Felidae family. The research method used in this study is Educational Design Research (EDR) with the Hannafin and Peck (1988) model. Hannafin and Peck model is structured around three distinct phases i.e. needs assessment, design, and development/implementation. Each phase includes evaluation and revision. Data analysis includes assumption tests such as normality and homogeneity tests, as well as effectiveness tests including paired sample T-tests and normalized gain analysis. The subjects of this research are 10th-grade students and Biology teachers at SMAN X Jakarta Timur. The gamification-based PowerPoint learning media (FaunaPlay) is highly feasible to be used as a learning tool and is effective in enhancing the conceptual understanding of 10th grade high school students on the topic of biodiversity, specifically the Felidae family. This study recommends implementing the gamification-based learning media (FaunaPlay) in classroom instruction to enhance conceptual understanding of biodiversity (Felidae). The media can be utilized by teachers as a practical tool during teaching and learning activities. Furthermore, it provides a valuable reference for researchers to develop similar gamified learning media aimed at improving educational quality.

Abstract

Several ecosystems have currently experienced damage due to several factors, both natural and due to human activities. Efforts to minimize this damage can be done by encouraging students to be aware of the natural resources around them, one of which is based on local wisdom. Awareness to love the environment must also be instilled in students, namely environmental sensitivity. Through ecosystem knowledge based on local wisdom and environmental sensitivity, students are expected to have ecological behavior. This research aims to (1) analyze the relationship between knowledge of ecosystem concepts based on local wisdom and ecological behavior, (2) analyze the relationship between environmental sensitivity and ecological behavior, (3) analyze the relationship between knowledge of ecosystem concepts based on local wisdom and environmental sensitivity with ecological behavior . This research uses quantitative descriptive methods. Respondents consisted of 168 students of class X Science at SMAN 97 Negeri Jakarta who were taken using a simple random sampling technique. The research results show that (1) there is a positive and strong correlation between knowledge of ecosystem concepts based on local wisdom and ecological behavior, (2) there is a positive and strong correlation between environmental sensitivity and ecological behavior, (3) there is a simultaneous positive and strong correlation between knowledge ecosystem concept based on local wisdom and environmental sensitivity with ecological behavior. The findings of this research are that consistency is needed in every activity carried out to improve students' ecological behavior.
