Abstract

Indonesia’s literacy crisis, evidenced by its low PISA rankings (score: 371; rank: 74/79) and the collapse of major bookstores (e.g., Gunung Agung, Kinokuniya), underscores the urgency for innovative solutions like Balai Pustaka’s EduBP, a digital literacy platform. Despite its potential, EduBP’s sales remain low (16.5% of revenue), necessitating research into consumer behavior to enhance adoption. This study investigates how brand image, product quality, and price perception influence customer loyalty, mediated by customer satisfaction, in the context of EduBP’s digital platform. Using purposive sampling, 125 EduBP users were surveyed via Likert-scale questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS, with validity (KMO > 0.5; loading factor > 0.4) and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.6) tests ensuring robustness. Brand image significantly drives satisfaction (β = 0.476, *p* = 0.001) and loyalty (β = 0.295, *p* = 0.004), while product quality shows no effect. Price perception indirectly affects loyalty (β = 0.703, *p* = 0.000) but not satisfaction. Customer satisfaction strongly mediates loyalty (β = 0.703, *p* = 0.000). Balai Pustaka must prioritize brand reputation and CRM strategies (e.g., after-sales service) over quality enhancements. Future research should explore market segmentation and technology acceptance factors (TAM) to refine digital literacy strategies. This study contributes to the nascent literature on digital product loyalty in emerging markets.

Abstract

Abstract

In various countries, testing of phenolic compounds in plants is always carried out because these compounds have various health benefits such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities. The types of medicinal plants in Indonesia are known to be very diverse where those included in the medicinal plant group reach more than 1000 species, one of which is nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) itself is native to the Maluku Islands, Indonesia. However, besides the Moluccas, nutmeg is also cultivated in several other tropical countries. The main objective of this literature review is to critically examine the antimicrobial properties and identify the specific antimicrobial components of phenolic compounds contained in nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) The methodology used in this study involved a comprehensive literature review by utilizing reputable academic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct related to articles published between 2019 and 2024. The results of this study were obtained through a thorough search process, resulting in eight articles that were considered to meet the established inclusion criteria. A number of articles showed the effectiveness of nutmeg as an antimicrobial because nutmeg contains phenolic compounds that have antibacterial and antifungal properties, which make it effective as an antimicrobial agent. Therefore, with a more comprehensive understanding of the content of phenolic compounds and their mechanism of action, nutmeg can be a further basis for study in the health sector and the pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract

Kojic acid (KA) as a topical formulation prevents hyperpigmentation through the inhibition of tyrosinase activity. However, KA has higher solubility in nonpolar solvents. Nanoparticle technology can be a novel innovation to enhance KA absorption into the skin. This study aims to improve the delivery of topically applied KA by enhancing absorption into the stratum corneum by optimizing the concentration of surfactant Tween 80 and co-surfactant Span 80. The nanoemulsion uses KA as an active ingredient and virgin coconut oil as the oil phase. The optimum area was analyzed using Design-Expert® 13 software, with a pure experimental design based on a 2x2 factorial design. The results indicate that all formulas are within the optimal region. Therefore, the determination of the optimal point can be grounded on the smallest composition within the optimal region with the objective of maximizing material efficiency, which is a formula with a concentration of Tween 80 and Span 80 of 10 grams and 3 grams, respectively. The particles are a spherical smooth shape and demonstrate an efficacy of 94.117% in inhibiting tyrosinase activity.
