Abstract

Virus-related materials can be challenging to comprehend due to its use of scientific and abstract terminology that is often difficult to visualize or directly observe. This difficulty is evident among students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Jombang, particularly when learning about the classification and types of viruses. The challenges students face in understanding this material are reflected in their cognitive learning outcomes, which have not yet reached the minimum completeness standard. On average, students' scores are 68, which falls under the "below average" category. This issue arises because the learning modules currently used in the classroom are limited to school textbooks, which do not adequately cover the subtopics of virus classification and types. As a result, there is a pressing need to support active learning by developing PjBL-based biology learning modules that are more accessible and easier for students to understand. The aim of this study was to determine the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) based learning modules on virus material on cognitive learning outcomes. The experimental class has a corrected mean score of 50.112. Similar result is obtained in the control class with a corrected mean score of 46.415. Thus, the PjBL-based Biology module does not show any potential in improving cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose – This study formulates a management framework for pesantren, madrasah, and Islamic schools to respond to the fragmentation of digitalization practices and ecological sustainability through an integrative Digital Circular School model that coherently links Islamic values, circularity, and digital capacity Design/methods/approach – The study uses a conceptual design based on a systematic literature review with a PRISMA flow. The search was conducted in Scopus, Google Scholar, and DOAJ for publications from 2020 to 2025 using keywords related to circular school, circular economy, eco-pesantren, digital Islamic school management, and Islamic values. Selected articles were analyzed through thematic analysis (theoretical reduction, thematic categorization, and integrative synthesis) to build a conceptual model Findings – Of 412 initial records, 198 remained after duplicate removal and administrative screening, 74 passed title and abstract screening, and 27 publications met the eligibility criteria. The literature is dominated by literature studies (55 percent) and qualitative case studies (25 percent). The synthesis identifies four themes: integration of Islamic curriculum and pedagogy with technology, digital Islamic leadership and governance, adoption of key technologies along with ethical challenges, and character formation and spirituality in the digital space. These findings produce a cyclical model with three pillars: reinforcement of Islamic values, enhancement of circularity practices, and expansion of digital capacity; this model is conceptual and has not been empirically tested. Research implications – The model can serve as an initial guide to design digital governance based on amanah and accountability, mainstream paperless practices, 3R, energy efficiency, and resource monitoring through information systems and dashboards; while also strengthening digital literacy, ecological literacy, and Islamic character development within the curriculum and school culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of integrating SASAMBO local cultural values on character education strengthening and the management of Civic Education learning among students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram. The study used a quantitative survey approach with a sample of 153 students selected through snowball sampling. Data were collected using a 25-item Likert scale questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression using SPSS. The results showed that local culture had a significant influence on character building with a contribution of 41.4%, while the influence on PPKn learning management was 9.2%. These findings confirm that the internalisation of the values of mutual cooperation, tolerance, religiosity, and social responsibility effectively strengthens students' attitudes and morals, but improving learning management also requires the support of pedagogical and institutional factors. The implication is that the integration of local wisdom needs to be optimised as the basis for character education and combined with managerial strategies and learning innovations so that the effectiveness of Civic Education in higher education is more comprehensive and sustainable.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving senior high school students’ scientific literacy. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test nonequivalent control group design and was conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. The research involved two classes consisting of 35 students each: an experimental class taught using STEM-based PjBL and a control class taught using conventional learning. Scientific literacy was measured using an essay test, while students’ attitudes toward science were assessed through a questionnaire. The results of the independent samples t-test showed no significant difference in students’ initial abilities (sig. = 0.064 > 0.05). However, the post-test results indicated a significant difference between the two groups (sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), with the experimental class achieving a higher mean score. In addition, students’ attitudes toward science in the experimental class were categorized as good to very good. These findings indicate that STEM-based Project-Based Learning is effective in enhancing students’ scientific literacy.
