Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Backgoun: Syzygium cumini is a species in the Myrtaceae, which is used as traditional medicine. In Indonesia S. cumini found in the yard and home garden, which use as producer of fruit and shading. The using of natural product as traditional medicine is better than sintetic, but improper has a negative impact. This article aims to explain the uses of S. cumini as traditional medicine and its bioactivity. Method: This article is based on the study of literature obtained on line and off line such as used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals, then synthesized according to the research objectives so that comprehensive information. Result: The traditional medicine of S. cumini have been used to cure diabetes mellitus, anti-inflammation, anti-ulcers, vaginal discharge, stomach disorders, fever, stomach aches, wounds, digestive disorders, and skin infection. The bioassay of S. cumini has activities as anti-diabetes mellitus, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-allergy, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-cancer, gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-pyretic. Conclusion. Our study of S. cumini is very potential to be developed as an anti-diabetes mellitus drug because it is considered safer therefore it is necessary to do further research.

Abstract

Arenga pinnata (AP) is a multifunctional plant used by various ethnic groups in Indonesia, including the Batak Ethnics in North Sumatra. Ethnobotany study is one way to find out the sustainable use of AP. This study aims to examine the use of AP and its conservation conservatives by the Batak ethnic community in the village of Bah Bolon Tongah, North Sumatra. This research was conducted with an ethnobotany approach through surveys and interviews with informants. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively to explain the utilization and conservation of AP. The Arenga pinnata by the local community in the Bah Bolon Tongah village is called pola, bagot, and tuak. The AP organs have different names is hodong (a compound leaf), halto (inflorescence), and ijuk (fibers produced by the stem). All parts of AP have been used such as leaves (roof, broom), stems (water pipes, buffalo bridles, "combs"), fibers (roofs, brooms), male inflorescence (sap), and fruit (kolang-kaling). Those sap is used as a traditional drink known as tuak and is sold to collectors. People who have dry land cultivate AR, especially sloping land so they can withstand landslides. The source of the puppies is chosen based on the character of the host with good vigor.

Abstract

Sida Rhombifolia is one of the species in the Malvaceae family that is widely used as a medicine including the local Indonesian community. This plant is easily found in various fields such as roadsides, yards, gardens and berra land. This study aims to explain the relationship between SR utilization and bioactivity so that it can be used as a source of information in its development. The method used is a literature review in various books and scientific articles that are published online and offline using the keywords Sida Rhombifolia and the bioactivity of S. Rhombifolia. In ethnobotany SR used as traditional medicine include gout, broken bones, wounds, fever, treatment of diarrhea, malaria, gastrointestinal dysentery, fever, asthma, and inflammation and anti-inflammation. SR has bioactivity as an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antioxidant, anti-cancer, drug for kidney disorders, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetes mellitus, and analgesics. The content of tannins, polyphenols, alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids and saponins found in SR are related to their bioactivity. Utilization of SR as an anti-microbial especially the Enterobacter digestive tract, kidney disorders and anti-cancer can be developed so that it is used as a new alternative source.

The tradition uses a variety of plants in its implementation. Based on the data, the research about ethnobotanical study of joko kaha tradition is still lack even none. This is a preliminary joko kaha study to document the used plants in joko kaha tradition. This study also examines the benefits of tradition associated with the scientific literature and conservation attitudes that performed by Bobanehena Village communities. Ethnobotanical data were taken using semi-structured interview method which was taken from key respondents. Plant data taken in the field with key repondents, made herbarium then identified. The results show that there are 5 plants species used in the tradition of joko kaha, they are Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff., Graptophyllum pictum 'Roseum variegatum', Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn., Oryza sativa L., and Curcuma longa L. After learned, the essence of the joko kaha tradition actually is to provide salvation for the person who will start a new period in his/her life. While the attitude of community conservation of the plant used was considered good that have been proven by the community was able to cultivate the used plants at their home garden. Keywords : Tradisi joko kaha, penyambutan tamu, etnobotani, desa bobanehena
