Abstract

Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe or temu putih is native plant in India, have been long cultivated in Indonesia. By the local commuities in Java, its have been used as component of the jamu and the traditional maedicine. This article is based on literature offline and online media. Offline literature used the books, whereas online media used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals. Based on a study of ethnobotany Curcuma zedoaria used as medicine and spices. The main of secondary metabolites of Curcuma zedoaria rhizomes are terpenoids esspecially seskuiterpenoid and monoterpenoid. Curcuma zedoaria have bioactivities as anticholesterol, anti tumor/ canker, anti inflamation, demam, antipiretik, analgesic dan anti microbial.Keywords: Curcuma zedoaria, essential oil, antioksidan, dan antimikroba.

Abstract

Ocimum basilicum L. or basil is widely used as a community producing the essential oils. By human the Ocimum basilicum has been used as medicine, vegetable, and spices. This article is based on offline and online media literature. Offline literature used the books, disertations, thesis, whereas online media used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals. The main essential oils in the Ocimum basilicum have monotherpene derivatives (camphor, limonene, 1,8-cineole, linalool, geraniol) and phenylpropanoid derivatives (eugenol, methyleugenol, chavicol, estragole, methyl-cinnamate). The traditional medicine its utilized as a carminative, stomach and antispasmodial, nausea, bloating, and dysentery. Abstract

Miana (Coleus scutellaroides (L.) Benth) is known as Mayana by local people west Halmahera. This plant is cultivated almost at every village in West Halmahera. After investigation, in fact the utilization of Miana as medicine has been implemented by almost local people west Halmahera. The aims of study are to record most utilization of Miana as medice at villages in west Halmahera and to explain about phytochemical of Miana which support its use as medicine based on the previous studies on pharmacology. Ethnobotanical data were collected from site at six villages, and then identified in plant herbarium laboratory. The result of study showed that Miana used to cure (disease; number of village) back pain because of menstruation (2), cough (2), ulcers (2), menstruation pain syndrome (1), bleeding after childbirth (1), appetie enhancer (1), dry lips (1), hemorrhoid (1), and increasing fertility (2). Based on these following the phytochemical content the Miana plant consists of essential oil, tannin, flavonoids, eugenol, steroid, saponins, fitol, rosmanic acid, streptozocin, and quersetin. Those phytochemcial content are strongly supposed playing as an important role in medicine because their pharmacologycal activities. In related to conservation, local people west Halmahera have been cultivating Miana at their homegarden till today. Keywords : Miana, Coleus scutellaroides (L.) Abstract

Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb. (pandan wangi) in long time ago has been used by human to preservation of food and beverage. This article is based on literature offline and online media. Offline literature used the books, whereas online media used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals. Pandan wangi has leaves not spiked and has been cultivated in the home garden. The pandan wangi in food and beverage industry to improve the flavour and colorant. The pandan aroma is the 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (ACPY) which can be degraded by heating. The extract leaves pandan wangi has activity to inhibited the growth of bacteria that cause gastrointestinal disorder and food damage such as Shigella dysentriae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Abstract

Nurseri is a location for seedling, maintenance, selling and purchasing of various types of plants found in big cities including Jabodetabek. This study aims to reveal nurseri management in the Kranggan area to support the sustainability and development of the nurseri. This research was conducted by intensively interviewing all owners (6 persons). Kranggan Nurseri has an area of ​​100-500 m2 with the number of managers between 2-8 persons, depending on the area and the volume of plants being traded. Nurseri owners and managers apply various managements in the seedlings, maintenance, placement, and selection of plant species by considering the volume and the processing time. Many consumers purchase due to the small size, easy maintenance and seedling. Management knowledge is gained from the experience during trading or information exchange with other nurseri traders or managers. Plant placement in the nurseri is adjusted to the needs of light, habitus, aesthetics, and plant canopies. Korean banyan (Ficus compacta) is very potential to be developed in the yard because it has attractive leaf, branching, fruit and canopy characteristics but it does not require extensive land so it is believed to have good prospect to be traded with high economic value in nurseries. Abstract

Pulai or Alstonia scholaris (AS) is a species belonging Apocynaceae, which is used as medicine. The aim of thearticleto manifest the use and bioactivity of the AS. The writing of the article is based literature study of various articles or research that has been there before to explain AS bioactivity. The genera Alstonia was described by Robert Brown in 1810 and was used as a tribute to and respect for Charles Alston, a Scottish Doctor and professor of Botany at the University of Edinburgh. The AS is a medium to large-sized tree with plants, has fragrant flowers so that it is associated with magic causing it to be called a devil tree. Ethnobotany AS is used to treat digestive tract disorders, malaria, asthma, malaria, fever, dysentery, diarrhea, epilepsy, skin diseases, and snake bites. The use of the AS as a drug is related to the content of secondary metabolites, especially from compounds of the alkaloid group. The AS bioactivity as an anti-diabetes mellitus, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant drug. The AS bioactivity as an anti-cancer can be used as an alternative medicine in healing cancer, but further research is needed to develop it as a standardized herbal medicine. Abstract

Research the formation of shoots and inflorescence the Kaempferia galanga carried out. Rhizoma of the K. galanga used to seedling has 2-3 buds for 30 pots with compost media. The data taken is qualitative such as the process of formation shoot and inflorescence. The results that the rhizoma colour affected the shoots, which were light rhizomes forming the green shoots while dark rhizomas formed red shoots. The early formation shoots form a solid cone surrounded by leaf scales. The leaves are shaped like a collar that surrounds the pseudostem and then turns into a tube, then like a funnel. The early the leaves grow in a vertical direction and then slowly in a horizontal direction. Mature leaves are the direction is almost parallel to the ground surface. After forming 2-3 mature leaves, will be forms the inflorescence candidate that risen from the tip of the pseudostem. A week after inflorescence appears, the flower will bloom. The flower blooms perfectly at 06.00-07.00 and after that it will wither. After the flower is 12-24 hours the flower will fall out. Each inflorescence has between 5-9 flowers and blooms every 2-3 days. Although K. galanga produces flowers, no fruit was formed in this study. Keywords: Kaempferia galanga, shoot, inflorescence

Abstract

Medicinal plants have been used for centuries Indonesian nation solve a variety of health problems. One type of medicinal plants that have long been used both for traditional and modern medicine is gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.). Grip is a material that is used to create your +/- 59 species of herbs, with levels of 15-25%. Gotu kola plant part used: roots, stems and leaves are used as a raw material for medicine need for supply of C. asiatica alone reached 12,700 tonnes dry weight per year need is increasing from year to year, leading to the presence in nature and in danger of diminishing. Pegagan of 1993 are included in the list IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), a category of vulnerable species approaching, so it is vital for conservation. Conservation efforts can be done in situ and ex-situ. Conservation in situ and ex-situ in the field often have problems because habitat destruction and overexploitation. efficient alternative for the ex situ conservation is through the technique of in-vitro. Culture is the technique of in-vitro cultivation of cells, tissues, and organs that have been separated from their natural environment and grown in an artificial medium under conditions appropriate sterile. Application of in vitro storage of C. asiatica through storage in a state of growth (short-term), minimal growth storage (short and medium term) and storage by freezing (long-term).

Abstract

Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium) is a species belonging Rutaceae, widely used as a spice and traditional medicine, especially by the Batak ethnic group in North Sumatra. Until now, in-depth studies on the botanical and utilization of Z. acanthopodium is limited. This study is based on literature studies on various research results published online, especially on Google scholars. Some of the keys used include: Z. acanthopodium, uses of Z. acanthopodium, essential oil of Z. acanthopodium and bioactivities of Z. acanthopodium. The ethnobotany studies of Z. acanthopodium have been used in meat and fish processing which results in a distinctive flavor and longer lasting food. In the traditional Z. acanthopodium use as mouth fresheners, dental care, treat asthma, cure rheumatism, cure coughs, ingredients for making health drinks. The Z. acanthopodium has anti-cancer and anti-microbial bioactivity associated with its essential oil. The compound of dictammine and skimmianine have anticancer activity against leukemia P-388 murine cells. The activity of Z. acanthopodium as an anti-microbial is very potential to be developed as a food preservative while preventing cancer.

Abstract

Bidens pilosa belonging Asteraceae has been long used by humans as food and traditional medicine. This study aims to explain the relationship between utilization and bioactivity of B. pilosa. The method writing this article is a literature study of the benefits and bioactivity of B. pilosa which is published online on google scholar. The keywords used in the article search were B. pilosa, uses of B. pilosa and bioactivity of B. pilosa. The literature was synthesized so that it explains comprehensively the benefits and bioactivity of B. pilosa. Bidens pilosa by local communities used to treat malaria, diabetes mellitus, inflammation, hypertension, anti-inflammatory, cancer, immune modulation, and anti-bacterial. The bioactivity of B. pilosa such as anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic mellitus, immunomodulators, anti-hypertension, anti-malarial, hepatoprotective and analgesic. The bioactivity of B. pilosa as anti-cancer and anti-malaria is related to the phenyl-1,3,5-heptatriyne content. Antioxidant B. pilosa is related to the content of polyphenols and quercetin 3,3 -dimethyl ether 7-O-b-D-glycopyranoside. Bidens pilosa has the potential to be developed as a nutraceutical, which is a food ingredient that provides health effects.
