Abstract

Nurseri is a location for seedling, maintenance, selling and purchasing of various types of plants found in big cities including Jabodetabek. This study aims to reveal nurseri management in the Kranggan area to support the sustainability and development of the nurseri. This research was conducted by intensively interviewing all owners (6 persons). Kranggan Nurseri has an area of 100-500 m2 with the number of managers between 2-8 persons, depending on the area and the volume of plants being traded. Nurseri owners and managers apply various managements in the seedlings, maintenance, placement, and selection of plant species by considering the volume and the processing time. Many consumers purchase due to the small size, easy maintenance and seedling. Management knowledge is gained from the experience during trading or information exchange with other nurseri traders or managers. Plant placement in the nurseri is adjusted to the needs of light, habitus, aesthetics, and plant canopies. Korean banyan (Ficus compacta) is very potential to be developed in the yard because it has attractive leaf, branching, fruit and canopy characteristics but it does not require extensive land so it is believed to have good prospect to be traded with high economic value in nurseries. Abstract

Pulai or Alstonia scholaris (AS) is a species belonging Apocynaceae, which is used as medicine. The aim of thearticleto manifest the use and bioactivity of the AS. The writing of the article is based literature study of various articles or research that has been there before to explain AS bioactivity. The genera Alstonia was described by Robert Brown in 1810 and was used as a tribute to and respect for Charles Alston, a Scottish Doctor and professor of Botany at the University of Edinburgh. The AS is a medium to large-sized tree with plants, has fragrant flowers so that it is associated with magic causing it to be called a devil tree. Ethnobotany AS is used to treat digestive tract disorders, malaria, asthma, malaria, fever, dysentery, diarrhea, epilepsy, skin diseases, and snake bites. The use of the AS as a drug is related to the content of secondary metabolites, especially from compounds of the alkaloid group. The AS bioactivity as an anti-diabetes mellitus, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant drug. The AS bioactivity as an anti-cancer can be used as an alternative medicine in healing cancer, but further research is needed to develop it as a standardized herbal medicine. Abstract

Research the formation of shoots and inflorescence the Kaempferia galanga carried out. Rhizoma of the K. galanga used to seedling has 2-3 buds for 30 pots with compost media. The data taken is qualitative such as the process of formation shoot and inflorescence. The results that the rhizoma colour affected the shoots, which were light rhizomes forming the green shoots while dark rhizomas formed red shoots. The early formation shoots form a solid cone surrounded by leaf scales. The leaves are shaped like a collar that surrounds the pseudostem and then turns into a tube, then like a funnel. The early the leaves grow in a vertical direction and then slowly in a horizontal direction. Mature leaves are the direction is almost parallel to the ground surface. After forming 2-3 mature leaves, will be forms the inflorescence candidate that risen from the tip of the pseudostem. A week after inflorescence appears, the flower will bloom. The flower blooms perfectly at 06.00-07.00 and after that it will wither. After the flower is 12-24 hours the flower will fall out. Each inflorescence has between 5-9 flowers and blooms every 2-3 days. Although K. galanga produces flowers, no fruit was formed in this study. Keywords: Kaempferia galanga, shoot, inflorescence
