Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of land control using remote sensing techniques in the Convertible Production Forest (HPK) area of Sungai Tabanio, located in Tanjung Village, Tanah Laut Regency. The increasing population growth impacts the development of an area, thus increasing the activities of the population in meeting their livelihood needs, driving the community to clear land in forest areas as a source of livelihood. The objective of this study is to analyze the changes in land cover in 2004 and 2024 in the Convertible Production Forest (HPK) area of Sungai Tabanio in Tanjung Village, Bajuin District, Tanah Laut Regency, and to identify indications of land control in the Convertible Production Forest (HPK) area of Sungai Tabanio in Tanjung Village, as well as its correlation with the Indicative Map of Land Control Resolution in the Framework of Forest Area Arrangement (PPTPKH) Revision II of 2023. The method used in this study is the collection and processing of primary research data through manual visual interpretation. The research results obtained are the interpretation of land cover changes from 2004 to 2024, which include plantation land cover (Pk) of 241.34 ha, mining (Tb) of 0.76 ha, shrubland (B) of 15.17 ha, swamp shrubland (Br) of 11.64 ha, open land of 7.11 ha, and water bodies (A) of 6.97 ha. The indication of land control based on the specified land cover parameters shows that the area indicated to be controlled is ± 242.09 ha or 85.55% of the Convertible Production Forest (HPK) area of Sungai Tabanio, the area indicated not to be controlled is ± 6.97 ha or 2.46% of the HPK area of Sungai Tabanio, and the area that has not yet been identified as having indications of land control or not is 33.92 ha or 11.99% of the HPK area of Sungai Tabanio.

Abstract

Demand for palm sugar on the market is increasing because consumers are satisfied with its quality. This research aims to analyze the added value and level of welfare of sugar palm farmers in Sarang Tiung Village, Pulau Laut Sigam District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan Province. The approach used in this research is quantitative and qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. Primary data was obtained from surveys and interviews with sugar palm farmers, while secondary data came from literature and related agencies. Respondents in this study were selected using purposive sampling, with a total of 30 sugar palm farmers. Data analysis was carried out using the Hayami method and descriptive quantitative methods to describe the conditions and situations from the interview results. The research results show that the added value ratio of the palm sugar business is 42.70%, which is included in the high category, and the level of farmer welfare according to GSR is 0.69, which means the level of welfare of palm sugar farmers is in the more prosperous category

Abstract

REZEKIAH, A. A., FITHRIA, A., YAMANI, A., ROSIDAH, RUDY, G. S., ALI, S. D. & SHIBA, Y. N. 2026. Carbon stock and carbon economic value of forest ecosystem in the Suwangi Island Nature Park, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 25(1): 1‒11. — The forests on Suwangi Island are currently facing significant challenges arising from human activities, land degradation, and potential land-use conflicts, all of which critically undermine their capacity to absorb and store carbon. The purpose of this study was to analyze the carbon stock value and economic value of carbon stored in Suwangi Island Nature Park. The allometric method was employed to calculate carbon stocks, with sampling locations determined using purposive sampling. The carbon stock results were subsequently converted to estimate the economic value of carbon. The land cover types identified in Suwangi Island Nature Park include primary forest, secondary forest, plantation, medium-density mangrove forest, and high-density mangrove forest. The analysis revealed that the highest biomass was stored in the primary forest and the lowest in the medium-density mangrove forest. The total carbon that can be stored at the research site is 80,45554667 tons/ha, and the resulting carbon economic value is IDR 2,851,347,872.68. These findings highlight the significant variation in carbon storage across different land cover types and underscore the critical role of primary forests as major carbon sinks. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of spatial (ArcGIS), ecological (allometric), and economic approaches within a single analytical framework, which remains rarely applied. The practical implications of this research emphasize the importance of management strategies based on carbon economic valuation and the potential utilization of carbon trading schemes, such as REDD+, to enhance conservation incentives and ensure the sustainability of Suwangi Island Nature Park management.
