Abstract

Jahe merah sebagai bahan baku obat tradisional diketahui mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat berkhasiat menghangatkan badan, mengatasi radang tenggorokan dan meningkatkan stamina tubuh. Gula aren diketahui mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan dan tidak menaikkan gula darah secara drastis. Peneliti ingin mencoba memformulasikan jahe merah dengan gula aren sebagai minuman serbuk instan sebagai minuman kesehatan yang berkhasiat antioksidan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memformulasi dan untuk memeriksa apakah sediaan serbuk minuman jahe merah memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dan  untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan aktivitas antioksidan dari variasi formula. Serta memeriksa mutu sediaan meliputi parameter organoleptis, kadar air dan uji kesukaan yang dibandingkan dengan standar mutu serbuk minuman tradisional SNI 01-4320-1996. Variasi 4 formula dibedakan oleh konsentrasi gula pasir dan aren sebagai bahan pengisi dan bahan pemanis pada sediaan yaitu F1 dengan konsentrasi gula pasir 100% b/b, F2 gula pasir dan gula aren (75%:25%), F3 gula pasir (50%:50%), dan F4 gula pasir dan gula aren (25%:75%). Selanjutnya, dilakukan uji aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode DPPH dengan menghitung nilai IC50 dari masing-masing formula sediaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sediaan serbuk minuman jahe merah instan mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat lemah yaitu secara berturut-turut dengan IC50 tertinggi pada F1 sebesar 6.190,7071 ppm, kemudian F2 sebesar 3.399,6433 ppm, dan F3 sebesar 3.172,1301 ppm dan nilai IC50 terendah pada F4 sebesar 3.067,2530 ppm. Analisis kadar air sediaan memenuhi syarat parameter serbuk minuman tradisional yaitu ? 3%. Hasil uji kesukaan (hedonic test) menunjukkan bahwa F4 paling disukai oleh panelis dengan range skor tertinggi 4,4 - 4,8. Maka disimpulkan minuman jahe merah instan memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat lemah. Terdapat perbedaan aktivitas antioksidan dari variasi formula yang dipengaruhi oleh konsentrasi gula aren. Hasil evaluasi organoleptis dan kadar air sediaan memenuhi syarat parameter serbuk minuman tradisional yang ditetapkan SNI 01-4320-1996.

Abstract

Bacteria is one of the factors that cause infection. These infections can be treat with antibacterial compounds. Plants are one of the greatest sources of antibacterial compounds. Leaves of skunk vine (Paederia foetida L.) and sweet star fruit (Avverhoa carambola L.) are plant parts that commonly used traditionally as wound healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea, etc. The purposes of this study were to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of skunk vine leaves and sweet starfruit leaves and to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against E. coli and S. aureus. Leaves of skunk vine and sweet star fruit were extracted with 96% ethanol. The ethanol extract of each plant was screened for their phytochemicals compound and tested for antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by using the agar disc diffusion method. The results of the study showed that 500 mg/ml of ethanolic extract of skunk vine leaves and sweet star fruit leaves could inhibited the growth of E. coli bacteria around 28.29 mm and 21.50 mm. Meanwhile, both extracts in the same concentration showed inhibition zones against S. aureus around 24.45 mm and 22.53 mm. It showed that ethanol extract of skunk vine leaves has better antibacterial activities than ethanol extract of start fruit leaves. The MIC of skunk vine leaves extract on both bacteria was 200 mg/ml, while the MIC of sweet starfruit leaves ethanol extract for E. coli was 12.5 mg/ml and S. aureus was 25 mg/ml. This indicates that both ethanol extracts have antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Background: Antibacterial is a substance that can interfere with the growth or even kill bacteria by interfering with harmful microbial metabolites. The skin of the Harum Manis Mango (Mangifera indica L.var. arum sweet) contains flavonoid compounds which are known to have antibacterial activity. Objective: This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of Harum Manis Mango skin against the antibacterial activity of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. Methods: The research method used in this study was the well diffusion method to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of the Harum Manis mango skin Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi using chloramphenicol 250 mg used as a comparison of antibacterial activity. Results: The results of the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Harum Manis mango skin against Escherichia coli showed the diameter of the inhibition zone as follows: 20% concentration (12.83 mm), 30% concentration (12.93 mm) and 40% concentration (13.91 mm), while against Salmonella typhi with a concentration of 20% (11.63mm), a concentration of 30% (12.5mm) and a concentration of 40% (13.5mm).Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of the skin of the Harum Manis Mango (Mangifera indica L. var. arum sweet) has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacteria. The most effective concentration against Escherichia coli at concentration of 40% (13.91mm) and Salmonella typhi at a concentration of 40% (13.5mm) with strong inhibition.

Abstract

Daun pegagan (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb.) dan daun bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun pegagan dan daun bandotan terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental meliputi pembuatan ekstrak dengan metode maserasi, skrining fitokimia dan uji aktivitas antibakteri kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun pegagan dan daun bandotan terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa simplisia dan ekstrak etanol daun pegagan dan daun bandotan mengandung senyawa golongan flavonoid, tanin, steroid dan saponin. Kombinasi ekstrak etanol daun pegagan dan daun bandotan dapat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan pebandingan konsentrasi 10%:90%, 20%:80%, 40%:60% dan 50%:50% dikategorikan sedang dan konsentrasi 30%:70%, 60%:40%, 70%:30%, 80%:20% dan 90%:10% dikategorikan kuat. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi daun pegagan dan daun bandotan dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

A plastic composite consisting of polylactic acid (PLA), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), oleic acid-grafted linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE-g-OA) compatibilizer, and organo-precipitated calcium carbonate (O-PCC) have been successfully made in the molten state. This study aims to characterize the mechanical, physical, thermal, and morphological characteristics of the PLA/LLDPE/O-PCC plastic composite in the presence of an LLDPE-g-OA compatibilizer. The plastic composite was prepared by blending PLA, LLDPE, LLDPE-g-OA, and O-PCC using an internal mixer with a heating of 160 °C and a rotation of 100 rpm. LLDPE and LLDPE-g-OA are put together into the inner mixer chamber until melted, followed by PLA and O-PCC. The most optimum plastic composite composition is PLA/LLDPE/LLDPE-g-g-OA/O-PCC (67.5:22.5:5:5). The mechanical properties showed an increase in tensile strength of 9.78 MPa. The physical properties showed that the minimum water absorption was 0.74%, the biodegradation in humus soil showed a degradation rate of 0.09% per day, and the thermal properties showed better stability with a melting point of 146.5 °C. The FTIR spectrum is similar to the polymer blend without O-PCC. The morphology indicates that the composite is compatible and homogeneous. This semi-biodegradable plastic composite has significant implications for reducing the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment.

Abstract

Asam urat sebagai hasil metabolisme senyawa purin atau xanthin, peningkatan konsumsi senyawa purin atau xanthin menyebabkan akumulasi kristal dari senyawa asam urat dengan notabene sukar larut dalam air. Asam urat darah dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, misalnya makanan kaya purin dan xanthin, suku, physic activity, supply alkohol, dan usia. Darah hanya mampu menampung sampai tingkat tertentu, kadar melebihi daya larut, di atas 6,8 mg/dl disebut hiperurisemia, Hiperurisemia bisa berlangsung lama dan sebagian bias menjadi artritis gout. Gout dikenal sebagai penyakit yang dapat menyebabkan penderita mengalami nyeri yang hebat pada sendi. Pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan dengan metode penyuluhan dan pemeriksaan kadar asam urat darah peserta. Masyarakat diharapkan dapat menambah pengetahuan tentang kadar asam urat darah sehingga mengurangi resiko Gout. Serta mengetahui kadar asam urat darah peserta pada saat pengecekan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berupa penyuluhan pemanfaatan infus water bagi kesehatan tubuh ini telah dilaksanakan di Sekolah Emenegah Pertama (SMP) Amal Luhur Medan. Adapun kegiatan ini meliputi persiapan awal, pemberian materi terkait infused water dan manfaatnya, serta pemberian contoh cara membuat infused water yang diikuti dengan pembagian infused water kepada peserta kegiatan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh para siswa-siswi dan staf/guru yang ada di lingkungan SMP Amal Luhur Medan. Kegiatan ini telah berhasil memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat khususnya kawula muda generasi masa depan yang mengetahui manfaat dari mengkonsumsi infused water secara rutin bagi kesehatan. Kegiatan ini juga telah memberikan informasi terkait pembuatan infused water secara mandiri.

Abstract

Syrup is a beverage product resulting from the production of a mixture of water and sugar at a content of not less than 65%, whether or not ingredients are in the form of food with or without food additives, which have received permission to use according to the regulations of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia. Fruit syrup is made from fresh fruit juice with sugar and the taste and aroma of the fruit. Fruits used in syrup production must have an attractive color, aroma and distinctive taste. Example the taste and aroma of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis S) and sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L). Sweet orange and passion fruit are used as a source of fruit syrup juice. Sweet oranges are widely grown in Indonesia, including North Sumatra, especially in Gung Pinto Village, Tanah Karo. During the main harvest, there is usually a decrease in the price of oranges so that farmers are reluctant to pick the fruit which has been the foundation of their lives. This problem triggers farmers to look for solutions so that their crops do not rot on the trees. Community Service is here to provide a solution by increasing the skills of the community to make Passion Fruit Syrup for the people in the village of Gung Pinto Tanah Karo. The service is carried out by training how to make Passion-Orange syrup by doing direct practice and evaluating the resulting product with a hedonic test. The results showed that the Passion-Orange syrup product showed very good color, taste, aroma and texture, and the public was very happy with the results of the Passion-Orange syrup product. The conclusion of the service shows that the syrup product produced is very good and the community is very happy with the results of the syrup product.

Abstract

Community Service aims to enhance students' understanding of Harapan Tiga Private High School's dangers of addictive substances and their impact on physical and mental health. Additionally, community service strives to encourage positive attitudes and behaviors so that students can face pressures and temptations without resorting to addictive substances. Adolescence is a critical period where teenagers undergo various developmental tasks and social pressures, including the risk of drug abuse. Through a comprehensive program of socialization and counseling, students are provided with information about types of addictive substances, their negative impacts, and strategies to combat peer pressure. The implementation method involves a collaborative approach with the school, preparation stages, activity planning, and partner participation. The results of these activities show an increase in students' understanding of the dangers of addictive substances, positive attitude changes, and the establishment of cooperation between the school, parents, and the community in preventing drug abuse among teenagers. Teaching knowledge about addictive substances and their misuse from an early age, through both formal and informal education, plays an important role in shaping teenagers' understanding of the dangers of addictive substances. By increasing understanding and awareness among teenagers, it is expected that the risk of drug abuse will decrease and their quality of life will improve. In conclusion, the results of community service show a significant increase in students' understanding of the dangers of addictive substances and the formation of positive attitudes, thereby preventing drug abuse among teenagers.

Abstract

Ikan salah satu dari sekian banyak kekayaan alam bahari Indonesia. Lauk pauk ikan banyak dikonsumsi masyarakat, mudah diperoleh di pasar dengan harga terjangkau. Namun ikan basah dan ikan kering mudah dan cepat mengalami pembusukan. Mikroba ada sejak ikan masih hidup. Aktivitas mikroba menyebabkan perubahan biokimia dan fisik ikan sehingga bau busuk. Kondisi busuk diketahui setelah bau busuk tersebar dan timbul lendir, warna suram, mata keruh dan sebagainya. Pengawetan ikan basah dan ikan kering dilakukan dengan mengurangi kadar air. Pengawetan merupakan daya upaya peyelamatan hasil tangkapan ikan oleh nelayan. Pembusukan ikan dihambat dengan penambahan garam, sehingga penyimpanan ikan lebih lama tanpa aktivitas bakteri dan enzim. Pesatnya teknik pengolahan pangan, penambahan bahan-bahan aditif pada bahan pangan sulit untuk dihindari, akibatnya keamanan pangan telah menjadi dasar pemilihan suatu produk pangan yang akan dikonsumsi. Bahan aditif berbahaya sulit dihindari, selalu ditemukan dalam pangan. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui keberadaan formalin sebagai pengawet dalam ikan basah dan ikan kering dari pedagang pasar Pancur Batu secara kualitatif dengan pereaksi tertentu. Penelitian deskriptif menggunakan masing-masing lima sampel ikan basah dan kering yang dijual di pasar Pancur Batu. Hasil penelitian memberikan informasi satu sampel ikan dari pedagang pasar Pancur Batu mengalami perubahan warna ungu pada Kit Tes. Satu dari kelima sampel ikan basah dan kering positif ada formalin.
