Abstract

Critical thinking is an important skill in education, but its conceptualization varies across Western and Islamic paradigms. This study aims to compare the concepts, criteria, and objectives of critical thinking in Western and Islamic education. The research method used is a qualitative literature study by examining primary and secondary sources from Western and Islamic studies, and analyzing them systematically thematic. The main findings reveal that Islamic critical thinking "tafakkur" and "ulul albab” integrating reflection “rational-religious (al-Diny al-Aqlany)” because in it there is tadabbur and tadzakkur, while Western critical thinking emphasizes “rationality-progressivism”. Critical thinking aims to enable a person to understand themselves, their environment, and their world, so they can make good decisions, solve problems, and produce something new. Meanwhile, in Islam, purpose tafakkur and ulul albab is "ma’rifat”. Ma’rifat is the knowledge of knowing Allah, knowing oneself, knowing the world, and knowing the afterlife. In Islam critical thinking is not only sharp mind, but also sharp awareness of the heart so that it becomes wiser. Although critical thinking from a Western and Islamic perspective tends to differ in concepts, criteria, and objectives, integration between the two is very important. Synergy between Western and Islamic education is needed to design a holistic curriculum that is responsive to the challenges of contemporary Islamic pedagogy.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable assessment instrument to measure students' higher-order thinking skills in the context of acid-base chemistry. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the 4-D model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The initial product was validated through expert judgment, evaluated for feasibility by chemistry teachers, and subjected to field testing. The study involved 200 twelfth-grade science students from SMAN Bireuen. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Data collection instruments included interview guidelines, item validation sheets, feasibility evaluation forms, and multiple-choice questions with open-ended justifications. The research findings revealed that the material validation assessment obtained an average score of 47.5 ( 46.194), categorized as "very good." Similarly, the feasibility assessment achieved an average score of 72.5 ( 67.188), also falling within the "very good" category. A total of 30 test items from the trial were analyzed in terms of validity, reliability, difficulty level, discrimination index, and distractor effectiveness. Therefore, it can be concluded that the assessment instrument is appropriate for measuring higher-order thinking skills in the topic of acid-base chemistry.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze learning difficulties in relation to students' levels of conceptual understanding—categorized as conceptually understood, misconceptions, and lack of understanding—among 11th-grade science students (Grade XI MIPA) in the Teupah Barat District, specifically concerning the topic of hydrocarbons. A Two-Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test was employed as the primary instrument. The study utilized a qualitative descriptive method. The population comprised all Grade XI MIPA students from senior high schools in the Teupah Barat District. The sample included 40 students from SMA Negeri 1 Teupah Barat and SMA Negeri 2 Teupah Barat, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics to process and interpret the students' responses. The results indicate that the Two-Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test was effective in identifying students' conceptual understanding and in uncovering alternative conceptions through dominant incorrect answer choices that diverged from scientifically accurate concepts.The findings reveal that among the participants, 64% demonstrated conceptual understanding, 23% exhibited misconceptions, and 13% showed a lack of understanding regarding the topic of hydrocarbons. These results highlight the diagnostic tool's utility in pinpointing areas where conceptual reinforcement is necessary to enhance students’ comprehension in chemistry education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using PhET (Physics Education Technology) simulation media on enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of heat and heat transfer at SMP Negeri 1 Cot Girek. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group type. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving a total of 50 students Class VII A as the experimental group and Class VII B as the control group, each consisting of 25 students. The instrument used was a multiple-choice test administered as both a pretest and a posttest to measure students' conceptual understanding. The results showed that the average posttest score in the experimental class was 71.4, while in the control class it was only 52.8. Hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test on the posttest data revealed a significance value of 0.001 ( 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two classes after the treatment. Meanwhile, the N-gain scores showed an improvement of 71% (high category) in the experimental class and 54% (medium category) in the control class. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of PhET simulation media is effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding of heat and heat transfer, especially in schools with limited laboratory facilities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan video youtube terhadap pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi suhu dan kalor di SMA Negeri 1 Muara Batu. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu Quasi Eksperimen Design dengan menggunakan desains penelitian non eqivalent control group design yang terdiri dari dua kelompok yakni kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Teknik pengambil sampel menggunakan tekning purposive sampling, yang terdiri dari kelas XI MIA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan XI MIA 3 sebagai kelas kontrol dengan jumlah siswa masing-masing kelas terdiri dari 25 orang. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan tes soal pilihan ganda. Hasil yang diperoleh nilai rata-rata posttest pada kelas kontrol dengan nilai sebesar 62,6 sedangkan pada kelas eksperimen diperoleh nilai sebesar 78,6. Berdasarkan uji hipotesis menggunakan uji non parametrik dengan uji mann whitney test diperoleh hasil sig (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 lebih kecil dari pada nilai signifikan 0,05 yang artinya  (Ho) ditolak dan  (Ha) diterima. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya pengaruh model PBL Berbantuan video Youtube terhadap pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi suhu dan kalor.

Abstract

Current technological developments expect teachers to be able to integrate digital technology into the learning process to improve the effectiveness and quality of education. This study aims to analyze the use of digital technology in learning. This research method is Descriptive and Quantitative use a questionnaire as an instrument. The population of this study was professional teacher education students at Malikussaleh University who were teachers as many 400 people drawn as a random sample. The study results showed that the pedagogical competence of prospective professional teachers was in the very high category in 91.352%, as many 30.83% of respondents chose to use video media as their teaching.

Abstract

Science literacy is a demand for education in the 21st century. The ability of science literacy in Indonesia is relatively low because the questions used are not based on scientific literacy. This research aims to produce assessment products that are suitable for use, then find out the responses of teachers and students, and find out the science literacy ability of students. The method in this research is Research and development (R&D) using the Borg & Gall development model to the eighth stage. The results obtained in this study are: (1) Product feasibility results based on material experts by 78% and declared feasible, then on media experts by 87.49% and declared possible. Then, the results of the validity of question items are displayed as suitable for use with a total of 20 valid questions, item reliability 0.90 (excellent). (2) The teacher's response result of 93.5% is excellent. Then, the response of students of 88.13% was excellent. (3) The lowest science literacy ability of students is in science as a way to conduct investigations, which is 34.50%, and the highest in science as a stem of science at 72.50%.

Abstract

Penguasaan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dalam dunia pendidikan digunakan untuk memperlancar proses belajar dan pembelajaran. Penguasaan TIK terintegrasi dengan penggunaan media digital pada proses pembelajaran sebagai wujud penguatan kemampuan literasi digital baik guru maupun peserta didik. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian adalah memberikan pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi  iSpring Suite dan smart apps sebagai media pembelajaran digital bagi guru SD di Lhokseumawe pada era new normal. Metode pelaksanaan terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu identifikasi permasalahan, pengolahan informasi dan penentuan pemecahan masalah, penyusunan materi pelatihan, kegiatan pelaksanaan. Peserta kegiatan adalah guru-guru SD yang berasal dari SDN 1 Muara Satu, SDN 2 Muara satu, SDN 3 Muara Satu, SDN 4 Muara Satu, SDN 5 Muara Satu, SDN 6 Muara Satu, SDN 7 Muara Satu dan SD Arun Muara satu. Kegiatan dilakukan 3 kali pertemuan, pertemuan pertama dilakukan pelatihan sedangkan pertemuan kedua dan ketiga dilakukan pendampingan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini terjadi peningkatan dalam pemanfaatan TIK sebesar 15%, Pemanfaatan android sebesar 5%, mengenal aplikasi berbasis android sebesar 36%, kemampuan menyusun aplikasi pembelajaran berbasis android 59%, dan peningkatan dalam keinginan melaksanakan pembelajaran menggunakan media berbasis android sebesar 4%, dengan demikian terjadi peningkatan rata-rata keseluruhan sebesar 24%

Abstract

Transformasi digital di sekolah merupakan hal yang penting untuk menyiapkan pendidik serta peserta didik untuk menghadapi peradaban 5.0 kedepan. Untuk itu, diperlukan kegiatan pendampingan dan pelatihan yang terfokus untuk membekali para guru dengan keterampilan yang praktis dalam dunia digital. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dirancang secara spesifik untuk memperkenalkan potensi Virtual Reality (VR) dan memberikan pelatihan langsung dalam menggunakan aplikasi MilleaLab. Tujuannya adalah untuk mendemistifikasi teknologi VR dan memberdayakan para guru agar mampu berinovasi, sehingga mereka dapat secara mandiri menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang imersif, relevan, dan berdampak tinggi bagi peserta didik di era digital. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian, hingga evaluasi akhir. Subjek yang menjadi peserta dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah para guru di SMPN 7 Sawang, Aceh Utara. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan, para peserta mengisi angket untuk mengevaluasi pelaksanaan dan dampak dari pelatihan. Setelah dilakukan pelatihan dan pendampingan/mentoring, angket yang diberikan menghasilkan nilai yang sangat baik untuk kriteria pelaksanaan dan dampak, yaitu sebesar 4,48 dan 4,26. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini mampu meningkatkan kompetensi peserta dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi secara kreatif dan efektif, sehingga diharapkan dapat mendukung terciptanya proses pembelajaran yang lebih inovatif, kolaboratif, dan sesuai dengan tuntutan era digital.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of science and technology in the 21st century, especially in the fields of Augmented Reality (AR) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning which provides opportunities for students to develop work skills and mathematical abilities which lead to the formation of life competencies in the future that is the competence of Education for Sustainable Development Goals (ESDG). This AR Learning Media was developed with a 4D development design: Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination. The subjects of this research were 7th-grade science students and teachers at SMPN 1 Dewantara. Media and content validation was carried out by 2 material experts and a media expert. Instruments used Media validation sheets, materials, and student and teacher response questionnaires. Analysis was done using percentage techniques on validation sheets, teacher response questionnaires, and student responses. The results of this research are AR media prototypes that are very feasible according to material experts and appropriate according to media experts with excellent student responses and the teacher's response was very practical
