Abstract

This research aimed to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery by using the Duolingo application at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, and each cycle was conducted in two meetings. The subjects of this research were 26 students of class VII-B. The instruments used in collecting data were observation sheets, field notes, and vocabulary tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after the implementation of Duolingo. In the pre-test, only 5 students (19.23%) achieved the Minimum Competency Criteria (MCC) with an average score of 48.46. In Cycle I, the number of students who reached the MCC increased to 14 students (53.85%) with an average score of 61.92. Furthermore, in Cycle II, all students (26 students or 100%) successfully achieved the MCC with an average score of 81.15. The findings also revealed positive changes in students’ learning behavior. The students became more active, confident, motivated, and enthusiastic in learning English vocabulary. They were able to learn independently, practice pronunciation, and respond well to the interactive features provided by Duolingo. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Duolingo is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery and learning motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Indonesian LKPD for class VIII SMP based on Cooperative Learning on the material "Writing Drama Scripts" which is suitable for use in the learning process. This type of research is a development research using the Hannafin and Peck model which consists of three stages, namely the needs assessment stage, design phase, and development and implementation phase. The instruments used in the assessment to determine the feasibility of LKPD are in the form of validation questionnaires for validators of material experts, linguists, and design experts as well as student response questionnaires. Abstract

The integration of digital technology in education has become an essential strategy for improving teaching quality and learning outcomes. However, many schools still experience challenges in utilizing digital learning tools effectively. This community service program aimed to improve students’ English pronunciation skills and enhance teachers’ competence in managing digital learning materials through technology. The program was conducted at UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli Selatan and involved students and teachers as participants. The implementation consisted of observation, coordination, training activities, evaluation, and mentoring. Students received training on the use of the Elsa Speak application to improve pronunciation, while teachers were trained to use Google Site as a digital learning platform. The results showed that students demonstrated high enthusiasm and increased confidence in practicing English pronunciation. Teachers also showed positive responses to the use of Google Site for organizing and distributing learning materials. These findings indicate that digital-based training can support inclusive learning environments and improve both student engagement and teacher digital competence. Continuous digital training is recommended to strengthen technology integration in schools.
