Abstract

Ensuring year-round availability of high-quality forage is critical for improving the productivity of ruminant livestock, particularly under tropical climatic conditions where seasonal fluctuations frequently disrupt feed supply. This study evaluated the fermentative quality of silage produced from varying ratios of Tithonia diversifolia and Panicum maximum using an in vitro rumen fermentation system. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was applied with five treatment groups (T0 = 0% Tithonia, T1 = 25%, T2 = 50%, T3 = 75%, and T4 = 100%) and three replicates each. After a 21-day ensiling period, samples were assessed for pH, total gas production, ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N), and volatile fatty acids (VFA) using fresh rumen fluid from slaughtered cattle as the inoculum. Results revealed that increasing the proportion of T. diversifolia enhanced fermentative activity, as indicated by higher total gas and VFA production, and lower pH values. Treatment T3 (75% Tithonia) showed the most favorable fermentative profile, with significantly higher gas and VFA yields and NH₃-N concentrations within the optimal range for microbial protein synthesis. Conversely, T4 (100% Tithonia) exhibited signs of fermentative inhibition, likely due to anti-nutritional factors such as tannins and saponins. In contrast, T0 (100% Panicum) demonstrated limited fermentability due to its high fiber and low soluble carbohydrate content. These findings suggest that a 75:25 ratio of Tithonia diversifolia to Panicum maximum optimizes rumen fermentation and may serve as a promising strategy for improving silage quality in tropical forage systems.

Abstract

Ketersediaan hijauan segar sebagai pakan ruminansia bersifat musiman, sehingga diperlukan teknologi pengawetan seperti silase untuk menjamin kontinuitas pakan. Tithonia diversifolia memiliki kandungan nutrisi tinggi namun mengandung senyawa antinutrisi, sementara Panicum maximum dikenal rendah antinutrisi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh rasio campuran Tithonia diversifolia dan Panicum maximum terhadap kadar asam fitat, tanin, dan asam oksalat dalam silase setelah fermentasi selama 21 hari. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan lima perlakuan rasio campuran (0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, dan 100:0) dan tiga ulangan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan proporsi Tithonia diversifolia secara signifikan meningkatkan kadar asam fitat (P kecil dari 0,05), dari 21,30 mg/100 g (100% Panicum) menjadi 52,00 mg/100 g (100% Tithonia). Kandungan tanin dan asam oksalat tidak berbeda nyata antar perlakuan (P besar dari 0,05), dengan nilai yang tetap rendah di seluruh rasio campuran. Dengan demikian, rasio campuran hijauan mempengaruhi kadar asam fitat namun tidak berpengaruh terhadap tanin dan oksalat. Silase campuran dengan proporsi Tithonia yang moderat dapat menjadi alternatif pakan hijauan bergizi tinggi dengan risiko antinutrisi yang masih dalam batas aman bagi ternak.

Abstract

Penetilian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan Bacillus amyloliquefacien di air minum terhadap bobot hidup, lemak abdominal dan persentase karkas itik Bayang. Penelitian ini menggunakan  itik Bayang Jantan umur satu hari sebanyak 80 ekor . Pada penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengani 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Perlakuan R0: 0 gram/liter air minum (Kontrol), R1: 1 gram Bacillus amyloliquefaciens/liter air minum, R2: 2 gram Bacillus amyloliquefaciens /liter air minum, R3: 3 gram Bacillus amyloliquefaciens /liter air minum. Peubah yang diamati adalah bobot hidup, lemak abdominal dan persentase karkas. Hasil penelitian menunjukan penambahan Bacillus amyloliquefaciens sebagai probiotik berbeda tidak nyata (P>0,05) terhadap bobot hidup dan persentase karkas, tetapi berbeda sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap persentase lemak abdominal. Penambahan probiotik Bacillus amyloliquefaciens dapat mempertahankan bobot hidup, persentase karkas dan menurunkan persentase lemak abdominal itik bayang jantan. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan  probiotik Bacillus amyloliquefaciens sebanyak 2 gram/liter air minum adalah pemberian terbaik pada itik bayang jantan. Pada kondisi ini diperoleh bobot hidup 1235,55 gram/ekor, persentase lemak abdomen 2,04 %,  dan persentase karkas 60,10%

Abstract

The increasing demand for animal protein from beef has not been matched by a proportional rise in cattle populations in Indonesia, necessitating strategies such as artificial insemination (AI) to accelerate reproduction. This study aimed to evaluate the success of AI programs in increasing cattle populations in IV Nagari District, Sijunjung Regency, by analyzing Non-Return Rate (NRR), Service per Conception (S/C), and Conception Rate (CR). A survey method was employed using primary data (farmer interviews) and secondary data (Puskeswan medical records from 2019–2023). The results showed NRR ranged from 69.80% to 77.91%, indicating a high pregnancy rate after the first AI, S/C for Bali and Ongole cattle averaged 1.13–1.30, reflecting efficient AI implementation, and CR reached 77.7%, exceeding the national standard (60–70%). In conclusion, the AI program in IV Nagari District successfully increased cattle populations, as evidenced by optimal NRR, S/C, and CR values. This success was influenced by inseminator training, farmer awareness, and AI infrastructure support.

Abstract

Goat rearing in Kenagarian Palaluar Kecamatan Koto VII Kabupaten Sijunjung is carried out extensively with field grass feed. This causes the potency of goat kacang is not optimal. There are no practical and health-qualified livestock cages, forage cultivation gardens, feed preservation, handling of sick livestock, or untapped livestock waste to reduce pollution. If the potential of kacang goat farming can be optimized, it can improve the economy of farmers. The purpose of this activity is to improve the ability of goat farming Mitra Sepakat farmer group through the adoption of technology and goat farming management. This activity began in 2020 starting with: the selection and cultivation of forage animal feed, demonstration plots of effective goat cages and selection breed goats; in 2021, feed management, fermentation feed manufacturing, concentrate manufacturing, reproduction management, and business analysis; in 2022, this was continued by the activity of making fermented feed, managing goat livestock waste into manure and evaluating the application of goat breeding science and technology that had been given. Based on the evaluation of the implementation of service activities that have been carried out from two years ago have been: a) changes in goat breeding patterns from (15 people) 100% extensive to 8 people (53) % intensive and intensive breeding patterns have been able to implement 100% transfer of Science and technology provided. The results of the evaluation conducted still found some problems faced by farmers such as the calf mortality rate being quite high, which became the plan for the next service for the next service activities.

Abstract

Sijunjung Regency is one of the centers for the development of buffalo livestock in West Sumatra. Even though the buffalo population in this area is quite large, from year to year the population increase is not as expected. One reason is the management of livestock reproduction which is not well controlled by breeders. This community service activity (CSA) for the buffalo livestock group aims to: change the behavior of farmers regarding the reproduction of buffalo livestock by providing knowledge about reproduction management, especially regarding puberty, detection of lust, and artificial insemination programs in buffalo livestock. The program targets are buffalo breeders in Nagari Tanjung Lolo, Tanjung Gadang District, Sijunjung Regency. The approach method used is counseling with a lecture approach and direct demonstrations. In addition, to determine the state of reproduction (ovaries) of buffalo cattle palpation is carried out. Guidance and coaching for breeders is carried out periodically through coordination with one of the breeders in the group. The mentoring activities carried out involved students of the animal husbandry study program. The results of the community service program activities are: 1) breeders know the age of puberty and signs of lust in buffalo cattle. 2) breeders know the reproductive condition (ovaries) of their livestock, 3) breeders know the ideal body condition of a livestock, 4) vitamin E administration to improve the growth and body condition of livestock.

Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) is an important indicator to measure a country's progress in improving the welfare of its people. Compared to other Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia's HDI is still low. To improve Indonesia's HDI, the livestock sector, especially cattle breeding and fattening, can contribute significantly. ICMI (Indonesian Muslim Scholars Association) in collaboration with the Department of Agroindustry developed a high-quality and sustainable cattle breeding and fattening program. The goal of this collaboration is to improve cattle breeding and raising skills and support sustainable agricultural development. The solution of this collaboration is the improvement of participants' knowledge and skills on better livestock technology so as to increase the productivity and quality of beef cattle especially in Sijunjung Regency.

Abstract

Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan sektor peternakan, khususnya pembibitan dan pembesaran sapi, sebagai upaya pemenuhan kebutuhan protein hewani serta peningkatan ekonomi pedesaan. Namun, tantangan utama yang dihadapi adalah rendahnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan dasar beternak di kalangan pemuda, yang berdampak pada kurang optimalnya pengelolaan usaha peternakan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan dasar beternak peserta pelatihan, mencakup aspek pengetahuan tentang ternak ruminansia, peluang usaha, tantangan dan solusi, dampak ekonomi, passion, keterampilan, keinginan belajar, resiko dan manfaat, serta visi dan misi. Metode evaluasi melibatkan wawancara awal, kuesioner tertulis, dan analisis deskriptif. Hasil menunjukkan variasi pemahaman peserta, dengan sebagian besar berada pada kategori "Paham" untuk aspek keinginan belajar (44%) dan dampak ekonomi (25%). Namun, pada aspek strategis seperti visi dan misi, tantangan, serta solusi, mayoritas peserta masih berada pada kategori "Tidak Paham" (43%). Hal ini mengindikasikan perlunya pendekatan pelatihan yang lebih interaktif, berbasis praktik, dan adaptif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman peserta. Dengan menyempurnakan materi dan metode pelatihan, diharapkan peserta lebih siap untuk mengelola usaha peternakan yang berkelanjutan, produktif, dan kompetitif di masa depan. Evaluasi ini juga memberikan acuan dalam merancang pelatihan yang lebih efektif untuk mendukung pemberdayaan generasi muda di sektor peternakan.
