Abstract

The service activity aims to introduce the importance of biodiversity data and train participants (Students of the Department of Biology Education) how to process data using the website from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) as a data source. This is done so that students are no longer confused in finding research data and looking for references on biodiversity data. This activity is intended for Department of Biology Education students who will take a thesis. The service implementation method consists of several stages, including: coordinating activities, implementing activities (introduction to GBIF), and training using the GBIF site. The service activity has been carried out for 2 days, namely Monday-Tuesday, 2-3 November 2020. The activity is carried out through zoom media due to the Covid-19 Pandemic condition. The activity was attended by 18 students from the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education, semester 7, as many as 18 students. The first day of activities, November 2, 2020 at 14.00 WITA, began with the introduction of GBIF to students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education. Then on the second day on November 3 at 09.00 WITA, the Service Team provided training on the use of GBIF and provided examples of thesis titles that could be done using the GBIF website. GBIF was first introduced to students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education, and students were very enthusiastic to know that there was a site that could help them in finding research data and looking for references on biodiversity data to compose their thesis.

Abstract

Broiler eggs are one of the eggs that have the highest consumption rate compared to other types of eggs. However, the shelf life of broiler eggs is very short. The purpose of the study was to analyze the effectiveness of using straw scrubbing ash with coconut fronds in the process of making salted eggs. The research was conducted by analyzing the organoleptic test results of respondents on the quality of broiler chicken salted eggs. The results of the study stated that the results of organoleptic tests using statistical tests at a significance level of 5%, in treatment P0 obtained an Fcount value of 8.954 which was greater than Ftable of 2.47, in P1 obtained an Fcount of 2.861 which was greater than Ftable of 2.47, and in P3 the Fcount value of 5.912 is greater than Ftable of 2.47. Meanwhile, in the P2 treatment, the Fcount value of 0.434 was smaller than the Ftable of 2.47. Thus, it can be concluded that the quality of salted eggs using straw rub ash with coconut fronds in the P0, P1, and P3 treatments was significantly accepted by the respondents. In addition, the quality of broiler chicken salted eggs in treatment P2 was not significantly different and was declared unacceptable by the respondents.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the increase in biodiversity literacy skills based on learning methods and level of education. Apart from that, this research also analyzes indicators of biodiversity literacy. The research analyzed 8 reputable international journals with 6 learning methods, 4 levels of education, and 10 biodiversity literacy assessment indicators. The research was carried out with meta analysis in the form of effect size analysis using the OpenMEE application. The research results stated that, based on the analysis of 8 reputable international journals, the estimated Effect Size (ES) value was 0.357 in the medium category (0.2 ≤ ES ≤ 0.8) and the p-Value < 0.001. Meanwhile, heterogeneous analysis shows that the Tau^2 value is 0.127 with an I^2 of 89.434, meaning that the diversity of variance from the journal studies analyzed has a very significant effect. Meanwhile, the results of the effect size analysis based on the learning model stated that there were 3 learning methods that obtained an estimated Effect Size (ES) value in the high category, including: Green Learning Method (GeLem) obtained an estimated effect size value of 3.797, a learning method based on local wisdom obtained a value The estimated effect size was 1.665, and the Virtual Field Trip assisted by Augmented Reality obtained an estimated effect size value of 0.974. Furthermore, the results of the effect size analysis of biodiversity literacy abilities at various levels of education stated that high school students had higher biodiversity literacy abilities compared to other levels of education, namely 1.281 in the high category (ES ³ 0.8). This research also analyzes the effect size value based on biodiversity literacy indicators. Based on 10 biodiversity literacy indicators, only one indicator shows the highest estimated effect size value compared to other indicators, namely the environmental knowledge indicator of 1.813. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence in increasing biodiversity literacy skills based on learning methods and level of education.

Abstract

The competence possessed by teachers is an important factor in achieving learning and education goals in schools. One of the essential competencies in the learning process is pedagogical competence. The Era of Independent Learning marks a paradigm shift in education in Indonesia by utilizing technology to improve the quality of learning. However, challenges arise especially in affirmation areas that have different socio-economic conditions and educational infrastructure. This study aims to determine the ability of teachers' pedagogic competence in facing the digitalization of education in the era of Independent Learning based on affirmation areas. In addition, this study also groups teachers based on their pedagogic abilities towards the digitalization of education in the era of Freedom of Learning using cluster analysis analyzed through SPSS For Windows 23. The research sample consisted of 100 respondents from several affirmation regions in Indonesia, such as Bima, West Lombok, East Lombok, Central Lombok, Maluku, NTT, Papua, and Sumbawa. Additional respondents came from non-affirmative areas as comparators, including Mataram City, Surabaya, Kalimantan, and Magetan East Java. The results of the study show that West Lombok Regency has the highest level of pedagogic competence among affirmation areas with a score of 87.74, while Bima Regency has the lowest score of 75. This average score is still categorized as high because it is above 75. The comparison area shows that Magetan has the highest average score of 100. Cluster analysis showed the formation of two groups, namely cluster 1 consisting of teachers from Magetan, Papua, West Lombok, and NTT, and cluster 2 consisting of teachers from Kalimantan, Bima, Surabaya, Mataram City, Maluku, Sumbawa, and Central Lombok.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest biodiversity in the world. However, this high diversity requires individual awareness and responsibility to maintain and utilize it sustainably. Therefore, biodiversity literacy is an important element, especially for students as prospective future generations who will play a role in natural resource management in the future. This study aims to evaluate the level of biodiversity literacy of students of the Biology study program at the University of Education Mandalika, by assessing six dimensions of biodiversity literacy: Conservation and Importance of Biodiversity (CIB), Ethics and Biodiversity (EB), Sustainability and Biodiversity (SB), Taking Action to Protect Biodiversity (TAPB), Biodiversity and Utility (BU), and Conservation and Importance of Species (CIS).  The method used was quantitative descriptive, involving 50 students as respondents. The instrument used consisted of 27 items that were analyzed using One Way ANOVA to determine the average score and significant differences based on gender and student scores. The results showed that the average score of biodiversity literacy obtained a score of 2.08 with a less significant category (Low Biodiversity Literacy). Most of the indicators are at an average value below 2.50, only a small number of indicators have an average value above 2.50. In the CIB dimension, only 3 indicators have an average value of > 2.50 out of 5 indicators. In the TAPB dimension, only 1 indicator has an average > 2.50. While in other dimensions, the average value < 2.50. In addition, there was no significant difference in student scores based on gender. Thus, student biodiversity literacy still needs to be improved, especially in the aspects of real action and individual responsibility.
