Abstract

Academic stress is a common problem among university students, especially in health-related programs where academic demands are complex. Multiple internal and external factors, such as workload, organizational involvement, and financial responsibilities, can increase psychological pressure. Prolonged stress may reduce concentration, academic performance, and overall well-being. This study aims to describe the level of academic stress among Public Health students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta and examine its variation across individual characteristics. A descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 296 respondents recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Lakaev Academic Stress Response Scale (LASRS), which assesses four dimensions: affective, behavioral, cognitive, and physiological. Analysis included descriptive statistics and cross-tabulation based on gender, organizational activity, employment status, and economic contribution to the family. Results revealed an almost equal distribution of stress levels: low (34.1%), moderate (33.1%), and high (32.8%). Female students, working students, and those supporting family income were more likely to experience higher stress. These findings confirm that academic stress is an unavoidable phenomenon but can function as distress or eustress depending on coping strategies. Therefore, universities should strengthen counseling services, stress management programs, and financial support to promote students' psychological resilience and academic success.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a common blood vessel disease and is classified as a degenerative disease. Because it cannot be cured, hypertension requires lifelong treatment to maintain quality of life. Factors that can influence quality of life include family support, motivation to adopt a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, medication adherence, education level, cultural values, lifestyle changes, and stress management skills. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between quality of life in hypertensive patients with medication adherence and family support. Method: This quantitative study used an observational analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Gambirsari Community Health Center from November to December 2025. The study population included all patients undergoing hypertension screening, determined using the Lemeshow formula, resulting in 135 respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. After data collection through questionnaires and interviews, the data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: There was a relationship between quality of life in hypertensive patients with medication adherence (p=0.028) and family support (p=0.017). Although most respondents reported good levels of adherence and family support, various forms of medication non-adherence and low informational and instrumental support from family were still found, potentially leading to uncontrolled blood pressure and reduced quality of life, particularly in the physical health domain. Meanwhile, the highest quality of life was found in the environmental domain. Conclusion: There is a relationship between medication adherence and family support and quality of life in people with hypertension. Adherence to antihypertensive medication and the role of the family as a support system contribute significantly to long-term hypertension management.   Keywords: Family Support; Hypertension; Medication Adherence; Quality of Life.   Pendahuluan: Hipertensi merupakan penyakit pembuluh darah yang umum dan tergolong sebagai penyakit degeneratif. Abstract

Introduction: The TB-sensitive communities emphasize the role of cadres as the spearhead of TB prevention and control at the community level. Capacity building for cadres through training is a crucial strategy to strengthen their knowledge and preparedness for early detection and education. This activity aims to analyze the impact of cadre training on the knowledge and preparedness of TB cadres in the Pucang Sawit Community Health Center area in Surakarta. Methods: The activity carried out at Pucang Sawit Community Health Center, Surakarta involved 40 cadres obtained through purposive sampling. The cadre training intervention combines basic education about TB and simulation of the use of flipcharts as a medium for counseling. The training includes the provision of interactive materials, flipchart demonstrations, and role plays to practice communication and education techniques to the community. Evaluation of knowledge and preparedness is carried out through a pretest–posttest using a questionnaire. Results: The training successfully improved cadre knowledge, the majority of respondents were in the medium category (55%) to the majority of respondents being in the high category (72.5%). There was an increase in the preparedness of cadres from the majority being in the poor prepared category (47.5%) to the majority of cadres being in the good category (62.5%). Conclusion: The training contributed to improving cadres’ literacy and preparedness to carry out their TB education and monitoring roles in the community. Preparedness classifications indicated that more than half of the cadres had acquired the basic skills to carry out community tasks, although the proportion who were not ready still required further mentoring. Abstract

Background: Adolescents are in a developmental phase characterized by significant biological, psychological, and social changes, potentially influencing various aspects of behavior, including sexual behavior. Limited understanding of reproductive health, exposure to pornographic content, the influence of the peer environment, and the suboptimal role of the family can increase adolescents' vulnerability to risky sexual behavior. Tasikmadu District, Karanganyar Regency, is one of the areas facing relatively high levels of adolescent reproductive health problems, so a scientific study is needed to identify factors of knowledge, attitudes, exposure to pornography, parental roles, and peer roles related to sexual behavior in the adolescent age group. Research Objective: to analyze factors of knowledge, attitudes, exposure to pornography, parental roles, and peer roles related to sexual behavior in Tasikmadu District, Karanganyar Regency. Method: The type of research used is quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 193 respondents obtained using a purposive sampling technique. The independent variables include the level of knowledge, attitudes, exposure to pornography, parental roles, and peer influence, while the dependent variable is adolescent sexual behavior. Data collection was conducted through interviews and self-completed questionnaires by adolescents and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. Results: The analysis results showed a relationship between the level of knowledge (p = 0.000), attitudes (p = 0.000), exposure to pornography (p = 0.000), parental influence (p = 0.047), peer influence (p = 0.039) with sexual behavior in adolescents. Conclusion: Adolescent sexual behavior is influenced by the interaction of individual, family, media, and social factors, so that prevention efforts require an integrated approach through education, family support, and strengthening a positive social environment.

Abstract

Background: Exposure to secondhand smoke in the home is still a public health problem that harms non-smokers, but is often overlooked. Although the City of Surakarta has implemented the Smoke-Free Village (Kampung Bebas Asap Rokok/ KBAR) program to encourage a smoke-free environment, the practice of smoke-free houses at the family level is not optimal. Mothers have an important role in preventing exposure to secondhand smoke such as implementing rules, supervision and support so that family members do not smoke in the house. Research Objective: To analyze the relationship between knowledge and social support in mothers with the prevention of exposure to cigarette smoke at home in the area of Smoke-Free Village (KBAR), Karangasem Village, Surakarta City. Methods: This type of research is quantitative analysis with a cross-sectional approach. The total sample was 96 respondents with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. Results: Data analysis using the Chi Square Test showed that there was a relationship between knowledge (p-value 0.001) and social support of mothers (p – value 0.001) and the prevention of exposure to cigarette smoke at home in the Smoke-Free Village (KBAR) area of Karangasem Village. Conclusions: Prevention behaviors of exposure to secondhand smoke at home are influenced by the level of knowledge and social support that mothers receive. Some do not understand exposure to second-hand smoke and lack emotional support from neighbors and community leaders. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen education regarding exposure to indirect cigarette smoke (third-hand smoke), especially not to smoke in the house and maintain smokers' personal hygiene after smoking. The education must be directed at strengthening emotional support involving community leaders and the social environment to increase joint commitment in preventing exposure to cigarette smoke at home.
