Abstract

This research aimed to find a significant correlation among the reading habits, personality, and reading comprehension of students at SMA Negeri 6 Bulukumba. This research applied a quantitative method with a correlational design. There were 35 students as the sample, taken by using the cluster random sampling technique. The data was collected through reading habit and personality questionnaires and reading tests. The results of this research according to correlational analysis showed there was a significant correlation between the independent variables (students' personality and reading habits) and the dependent variable (students' reading comprehension). The sig. F. change value of this research was 0.044 which was less than 0.05 and the R value of 0.422 showed a 'medium' correlation. This research indicated that extroversion and introversion did not significantly impact reading comprehension directly, the combination of reading habits and personality traits showed a meaningful correlation with reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research investigates the implementation of web-based instruction in teaching listening skill in Indonesian Senior high school students. The research aims to describe and find out the three following objectives: 1) The implementation of web-based instruction in teaching listening process 2) Describe teacher’s perception of the implementation Web-Based Instruction in teaching listening in Indonesian EFL Classroom 3) Describe students’ perception on the impact web-based instruction in developing listening skill in EFL Classroom. This research applied descriptive qualitative research with case study approach. The population of this research were students of XII Bahasa SMAN 1 Pangkep and used purposive sampling to obtained samples from population. The sample of this research was selected by interviewing the teacher taught by using web-based instruction in teaching listening. The data collected by observation and interview. The result of this research shows that 1) The implementation WBI in teaching listening process as medium instructional, utilization of interactive activity, and promote autonomous learning 2) Teacher’s perception of the implementation WBI in EFL classroom discovered giving positive impact in teaching process can be seen teacher can use as medium instruction in teaching English, access authentic material, give online interactive activities and promote autonomous learning. 3) students’ perception on the impact of implementation WBI in teaching English listening skill for students in several aspect accessibilities, increased engagement, promoting collaborative learning, and flexibility used.

Abstract

This study is a pre-experimental research that aims to find out the use of Question-and-Answer Relationship (QAR) to improve students’ reading comprehension ability. The participants were the students of XI MIPA 1 MAN 2 Kota Makassar for the academic year 2021/2022 with as many as forty-four students. Cluster random sampling was used as the way of selecting the sample and a reading test was administered as the way of collecting data. The result showed that the score of students’ reading comprehension tests were increasing after conducting QAR in the reading class. The mean score of students’ reading comprehension test before and after applying the QAR strategy improved by 35.96%. This means that the students’ reading comprehension ability can be improved by using Question and Answer Relationships as a teaching strategy in reading class.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate whether focus group discussion enriches students’ speaking abilities. This research was conducted using pre-experimental research, with 40 students in the eleventh grade (second grade of senior high school) participating in this research. The result of this research was obtained from two tests (pre-test and post-test). The pre-test revealed that there were 36 students classified as very poor and 4 students classified as fair. The post-test showed that only 15 students were classified as very poor, 12 were classified as poor, 6 were classified as fair, 3 were classified as fairly good, and 4 were classified as good. In addition, the mean score from the pre-test (24.90) to the post-test (51.40) improved. The findings of this study showed that focus group discussions could enrich students’ speaking abilities. Therefore, the focus group discussion technique, which has been widely used in the world of work and organizations, has also proven to be a good method of teaching English, especially speaking.
