Abstract

Stunting is a public health problem with long-term impacts on the quality of human resources, including the productivity of school-age children. In Serang City, stunting prevalence remains a concern despite a decreasing trend in recent years. This study aims to analyze the impact of stunting on the productivity of elementary school children in Serang City by utilizing stunting prevalence data from the Health Office and findings from national and international research published between 2020 and 2025. The research employed a descriptive method based on secondary data analysis and a systematic literature review. The results indicate that stunting negatively affects cognitive abilities, academic achievement, attendance rates, and learning participation among elementary school students. These findings demonstrate that stunting not only influences physical growth but also has direct implications for children’s learning productivity. Therefore, strengthening integrated interventions between the health and education sectors is essential to reduce the impact of stunting and improve the quality of human resources in Serang City. Keywords: stunting, learning productivity, elementary school children, Serang City Abstrak : Stunting merupakan permasalahan kesehatan masyarakat yang berdampak jangka panjang terhadap kualitas sumber daya manusia, termasuk produktivitas anak usia sekolah. Di Kota Serang, prevalensi stunting masih menjadi perhatian meskipun menunjukkan tren penurunan dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak stunting terhadap produktivitas anak sekolah dasar di Kota Serang dengan memanfaatkan data prevalensi stunting dari Dinas Kesehatan serta hasil penelitian nasional dan internasional periode 2020–2025. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan analisis data sekunder dan telaah pustaka sistematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa stunting berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan kognitif, prestasi akademik, tingkat kehadiran, dan partisipasi belajar siswa sekolah dasar. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa stunting tidak hanya berdampak pada aspek pertumbuhan fisik, tetapi juga berimplikasi langsung terhadap produktivitas belajar anak. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penguatan intervensi terintegrasi antara sektor kesehatan dan pendidikan guna menurunkan dampak stunting dan meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia di Kota Serang. Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains a major public health issue in Indonesia and poses serious long-term consequences for the quality of human resources. This condition results from prolonged inadequate nutritional intake, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, leading to impaired physical growth and suboptimal brain development. The impact of stunting is not limited to short stature but also extends to delayed cognitive development, which directly affects academic achievement and learning capacity among elementary school children. This study aims to analyze the relationship between stunting, cognitive development, and academic achievement among elementary school students, as well as to examine its long-term implications for human resource quality. This research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study sample was randomly selected from elementary school children living in areas with a high prevalence of stunting. Data collection involved anthropometric measurements to determine stunting status based on World Health Organization (WHO) standards, standardized cognitive tests to assess children’s cognitive abilities, and academic records and questionnaires to evaluate learning achievement. The collected data were analyzed using inferential statistical methods, including correlation and regression analyses, to identify the relationship and influence of stunting on cognitive development and academic achievement. The results are expected to indicate that stunted children demonstrate lower cognitive performance and poorer academic achievement compared to their non-stunted peers. These findings highlight the critical importance of comprehensive nutritional interventions and early stimulation, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, as strategic efforts to prevent stunting and to improve educational outcomes and the overall quality of human resources in the future. Abstract

Permasalahan sampah merupakan isu lingkungan yang semakin kompleks dan memerlukan keterlibatan aktif masyarakat untuk mendukung pembangunan berkelanjutan. Salah satu bentuk pengelolaan sampah berbasis komunitas yang berkembang adalah bank sampah, khususnya yang diterapkan di lingkungan sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaan bank sampah di sekolah dasar serta kontribusinya dalam mewujudkan ekonomi berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus tunggal yang melibatkan satu responden kunci sebagai pengelola bank sampah sekolah. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi masyarakat tercermin dalam keterlibatan orang tua siswa dan masyarakat sekitar melalui partisipasi fisik, sosial, dan ekonomi. Partisipasi tersebut didorong oleh kesadaran lingkungan, manfaat ekonomi, serta dukungan kelembagaan sekolah, namun masih dihadapkan pada keterbatasan pemahaman, waktu, dan sarana pendukung. Bank sampah sekolah berperan sebagai media edukasi lingkungan dan sarana penerapan ekonomi sirkular sederhana yang mendukung terbentuknya perilaku ekonomi berkelanjutan. Dengan demikian, partisipasi masyarakat menjadi faktor kunci dalam keberlanjutan pengelolaan bank sampah di sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Stunting is a manifestation of chronic malnutrition that remains a major public health problem, particularly among school-aged children in developing countries, including Indonesia. In addition to inadequate nutritional intake, environmental factors such as poor sanitation, limited access to clean water, and unhealthy hygiene practices play a significant role in the occurrence of stunting. Schools, as a second environment after the family, have strategic potential to support stunting prevention through the implementation of a healthy school environment. This study aims to examine the role of a healthy school environment in preventing stunting among elementary school children. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving an intervention group and a control group. The study was conducted in two public elementary schools with a high prevalence of stunting. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements, questionnaires on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), and observations of school environmental health facilities. Data analysis used paired t-tests and independent t-tests to assess differences before and after the intervention. The findings indicate that the implementation of a healthy school environment program integrated with the School Health Unit (UKS) contributes positively to improving health behaviors and supporting optimal child growth. This study highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening sustainable school-based stunting prevention programs.
