Abstract

This study investigates the integration of the Tilawati method and the peer tutoring strategy in Qur’anic recitation (tahsin) learning within Islamic elementary education, aiming to describe their implementation, examine their synergy in forming Qur’anic character, and identify the values internalized throughout the learning process. Methodologically, the study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design at SD Islam Al Azhar 31 Yogyakarta. Data were collected through participatory observation of tahsin sessions, in-depth interviews with teachers, peer tutors, and tutees, as well as document analysis (lesson plans, assessment rubrics, and reflective journals). Data analysis followed thematic procedures of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility ensured through triangulation of sources and methods, along with member checking. The findings reveal that the combination of Tilawati’s technical structure—accuracy of makhraj, application of tajwÄ«d, and rhythmic tartÄ«l—and the relational dynamics of peer tutoring based on the “appreciation–diagnosis–demonstration–practice–confirmation” sequence enhances Qur’anic reading competence while reinforcing religiosity, responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and empathy. The transformation from a teacher-centered model to a psychologically safe, collaborative ecosystem was sustained by ritualized practices (talqÄ«n–tasmi‘, tikrār, murāja‘ah), social co-regulation among students, and post-session spiritual reflection. The study concludes that the Tilawati–peer tutoring integration effectively bridges the gap between learning to know and learning to be, recommending strengthened peer tutor capacity, technical standard calibration, authentic cognitive–affective assessment, and parental engagement as home coaches to ensure the sustainability of character habituation. Keywords: Tilawati; peer tutoring; Qur’anic recitation; character formation; Islamic elementary education.

Abstract

The implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia and Thailand, is relatively new; therefore, it is interesting to research students' responses to its implementation. This research aims to determine students' responses to the implementation of the OBE supported by E-Learning as a form of evaluation of the ongoing learning process. The subjects of this research were 250 students at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at Alma Ata University (UAA), Indonesia, and 250 students at the Islamic College at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand. This research hypothesizes that the implementation of the OBE curriculum supported by E-Learning at both universities has a significant influence on student satisfaction with learning. This research uses quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental research design. Based on the research results obtained, there was an increase in average student satisfaction before and after the implementation of the OBE Curriculum, supported by E-Learning, at the two universities. This can be seen from the results of the Independent Samples t Test with sig. P-value <0.05. The OBE Curriculum, supported by E-Learning with a blended learning model, is very suitable for implementation at universities as a form of learning revolution in the digital era.

Abstract

This research examines the motivations behind Indonesia’s development assistance to African countries through Indonesian AID, highlighting Indonesia within the broader context of the rise of emerging donors in global development. A qualitative explanatory approach was employed, with data collected via semi-structured interviews with a key policymaker and library research. The data were then analyzed using the foreign policy analysis framework with a pluralist perspective, which integrates both domestic and international factors. The findings reveal that Indonesia’s aid to Africa is driven by a combination of pragmatic material interests, such as promoting economic diplomacy and expanding trade opportunities, and normative aspirations, including South-South cooperation and enhancing Indonesia’s international standing. The study under discussion highlights the intersection of several factors, including leaders’ idiosyncrasies, domestic politics, and global politics, which collectively influence the motivations behind aid. This intersection transcends the conventional binary of normative versus material drivers. By focusing on Indonesia’s involvement in Africa, this research addresses a gap in the literature on Indonesia’s developmental assistance, which has predominantly focused on Oceania, thereby illustrating the intricate interplay between domestic and international factors in the foreign aid strategies of emerging donors. The paper concludes that Indonesia’s approach reflects a nuanced donor identity, offering practical implications for understanding the evolving landscape of South-South cooperation and the diversification of global development assistance.

Abstract

MSMEs play a vital role in driving local economic growth in emerging markets. However, many still struggle with performance issues, particularly due to weaknesses in financial management. This study aims to examine the effect of financial literacy on the performance of non-agricultural MSMEs in Demak Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative survey approach was employed, using structured questionnaires distributed to 120 MSME owners selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings indicate that financial literacy has a positive and significant impact on MSME performance, reflected in increased revenue, improved cost efficiency, higher profitability, and enhanced business sustainability. Improved financial decision-making, effective cash flow management, and better access to formal financial services contribute to this performance improvement. This study contributes to the literature on MSMEs in developing countries by highlighting the link between financial literacy, financial inclusion, and local economic resilience. The results provide practical implications for local governments and development stakeholders in designing inclusive and sustainable MSME empowerment programs aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
