Abstract

Modernism is a movement that originated in the western world to replace Catholic religious teachings with modern science and philosophy. The culmination of this movement is the process of secularization in the western world, before the revolution in Iran. The success of the Iranian Islamic Revolution which succeeded in overthrowing the Pahlavi dynasty which had changed the political system and form of the Iranian state from an absolute monarchy to an Islamic republic. A first popular revolution in the last quarter of the twentieth century against a modern authoritarian political system. However, this Iranian experience does not provide a definite answer to the problems between Islam and the originator of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, who played a major role in moving the masses to carry out a revolution against the Pahlavi regime.

Abstract

Waqf is a form of worship that has a major contribution to world civilization. This research aims to analyze the role of waqf in building Islamic and Western civilization in higher education institutions. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach, namely understanding and studying theories from various literature related to research. The research results show that Islamic education cannot be separated from the role of waqf. One proof of higher education built from waqf is Al-Qarawiyyin University in Morocco. This university has been named the oldest and first campus to use waqf. The concept of waqf developed and was adopted by the western world with the term endowment fund. Harvard University is an example of a university built from endowment funds. Indonesia is one of the countries that has also practiced waqf at higher education institutions, but has not been able to provide free education to underprivileged students. This research is an original study to motivate the Muslim community to be more enthusiastic about giving waqf to higher education. This study is also very important for practitioners and policy makers in evaluating the potential and role of waqf in developing Islamic higher education institutions

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the Islamization of Mambi in the 17th century with main focuses. first, the socio-political religious conditions of the Mambi people before the arrival of Islam; second, the pattern of acceptance of Islam in Mambi; third, the contribution of Islam to religious understanding. The authors use historical methods to reveal these historical events, including the following stages: heuristics or data collection, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The approach used in research; is history, politics, religion, and sociology. The results of this study, firstly, the socio-political condition of religion before Islam in Mambi, that the religion that becomes the belief of the community is Mappurondo or Mappurondo. Mappurondo cannot be separated from the social, political, and cultural pre-Islamic Mambi. So Mappurondo is a framework of rules that regulates human procedures in social life. Society in this case is governed by human relations with others, the universe, and the Creator, usually called Dehata. The rules are formulated in Pemali Appa' Randanna (four prohibitions). Pemali Appa' Randanna are rules regarding the four basic elements of the human life cycle. Secondly, the acceptance of Islam in Mambi in the 17th century was brought by a figure who had a very broad understanding of religion. The Mambi people know him by the name Batua Muhammad Adil. Third, the contribution of Islam to religious understanding until now has been abandoned by Pamali Appa' Randanna. Contribution to social politics until now the election of leaders is no longer done in a monarchical manner

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengkaji tentang pappaseng Bugis yang merupakan ekspresi dari tazkiyah al-nafs dalam tasawuf yang mengandung nilai-nilai kebajikan. Pappaseng sebagai sebuah genre puisi dalam sastra Bugis secara subtansi memiliki relevansi dengan nilai-nilai Islam. Penelitian diawali dengan pemerolehan teks pappaseng yang dilakukan melalui sumber pustaka kemudian dipadukan dengan sumbersumber lisan. Analisis yang diterapkan menggunakan pendekatan antropologi agama yang bermaksud untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai kebajikan kehidupan yang terkandung dalam teks-teks pappaseng. Hasil pengkajian menunjukkan bahwa, narasi pappaseng yang berkembang dalam masyarakat Bugis memiliki keselarasan dengan nilai-nilai Islam yang mencakup tiga aspek yaitu „tawakkal‟ yang di dalam pappaseng Bugis disebut pesona (pasrah kepada Tuhan); ukhuwah dalam pappaseng Bugis disebut assimellereng (persaudaraan); dan; shiddiq dalam pappaseng Bugis disebut lempu (jujur).

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengkaji tentang strategi pewarisan nilai-nilai pappaseng pada masyarakat Bugis Kabupaten Wajo Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan yang di dalamnya mengandung nilai-nilai yang dijunjung tinggi dalam masyarakat Bugis, seperti; lempu’ (kejujuran); acca (kecendekiaan), sitinaja (kepatutan), getteng (ketehuhan), reso (usaha), siri’ (prinsip malu). Kajian diawali dengan pemerolehan teks pappaseng melalui sumber pustaka, yang kemudian diintegrasikan dengan sumber lisan. Analisis menggunakan teknik antropologi budaya dengan tujuan mengungkap strategi pewarisan nilai-nilai pappaseng dalam masyarakat Bugis Wajo. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pewarisan nilai-nilai luhur pappaseng melalui internalisasi; pembiasaan secara konsisten dengan memberi keteladanan dan penanaman nilai sebagai tindakan keseharian seseorang atau kelompok masyarakat hingga terjadi penyerapan nilai, norma, atau aturan sampai terbentuknya suatu pola tingkah laku sosial dalam kepribadiannya, sehingga dengan proses pewarisan nilai-nilai utama pappaseng yakni: lempu’ (jujur), acca (cendekia) melalui saluran-saluran pewarisan nilai seperti melalui keluarga, sosial masyarakat, lembaga pendidikan, dan pemerintah akan terbentuk manusia-manusia yang berkepribadian dan terpandang selaras dengan lingkungan sosial dan budayanya. Dalam istilah Bugis dikenal dengan tau tongeng atau to matanre siri. Pewarisan nilai-nilai pappaseng diungkapkan dalam bentuk pangaja (nasihat), elong (nyanyian), werekkada (ungkapan), dan bentuk percakapan atau diucapkan secara dialog guna membentuk karakter khas keturunannya dengan kedisiplinan, konsistensi agar senantiasa memiliki etika berinteraksi dengan sesama, tata krama terhadap orang tua, tidak lepas dari fungsi dan peranan pappaseng sebagai sumber nilai budaya dalam masyarakat Bugis di Kabputen Wajo Sulawesi Selatan.

Abstract

This article discusses two significant figures in the history of Egypt, namely Jamaluddin al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh. Jamal a-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad ‘Abduh were two influential figures in the development of Islam in Egypt. Their thoughts were not only admired in Egypt but also by the Islamic generation in other countries. This research is a literature study with a historical approach. Research data were obtained from various books and articles. Based on the research results, it can be stated that Jamaludin Al-Afghani is one of the Islamic reformist figures with creative ideas to revive the spirit of the Islamic community. He is known as the initiator of the concept of Pan-Islamism. On the other hand, Muhammad Abduh is a rationalist thinker who had a significant impact on the history of Islamic thought. For Abduh, reason holds a high position in religion because through reason, humans can recognize God and understand what must be implemented.

Abstract

This article discusses the History of the Islamic State of Turkey and the Reform Ideas of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The birth of a modern state is derived from modernity ideas. The interaction between nations contributes to the transmission of ideas about the modern state. Similarly, in Turkey, the idea of the modern state in Europe was transmitted through Mustafa Kemal. As a figure who underwent military education in France, specifically at Picardie Manuvers, he had the opportunity to absorb reform ideas, leading him to transform Turkey into a modern state. Mustafa Kemal saw that the Ottoman Turkish government was not an ideal type of modern governance. The Sultan had absolute power and was not constrained by laws. There was no parliament to control the Sultan's authority. Additionally, the Sultan was powerless against Western influence in bilateral relations, as the West gradually dominated the Ottoman Turkish territory. Subsequently, Mustafa Kemal established an anti-government movement through his organization, Vatan, and boldly resisted the West, successfully reclaiming Turkey's territory from the Allies. Mustafa became renowned among the people and was considered a hero, receiving support and sympathy from the Turkish population.

Abstract

Dalam sejarah dunia Islam modern, gerakan revivalisme Islam merupakan gerakan untuk memajukan suatu negara dengan berlandaskan syariat Islam. Revivalisme muncul dengan gagasan dari berbagai tokoh untuk menghilangkan praktek-praktek yang tidak sesuai dengan syariat Islam di kehidupan bermasyarakat yang dapat merusak ajaran Islam dengan kembali berpedoman kepada Al-Qur’an dan Hadis, melalui gerakan tajdid dan purifikasi. Penelitian ini merupkan penelitian kepustakaan atau library research dengan mengambil referensi dari buku atau jurnal yang berkaitan dengan penelitian ini. Syekh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab merupakan tokoh penggagas lahirnya gerakan revivalisme di Saudi Arabia khususnya gerakan Wahabi/Wahabisme. Melalui gerakan Wahabi, Syekh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab melakukan dakwah tentang tauhid atau pemurnian agama (al-Harakah al-Tandhifiyah al-Islamiyah). Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab menemukan berbagai praktek-praktek yang dapat merusak ajaran Islam seperti menyembah pepohonan dan ziarah ke tempat-tempat keramat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan cara pelaksanaan tradisi Bepapas dan juga nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalamnya dalam konteks masyarakat Melayu Sambas. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan mencakup wawancara, dan referensi dari jurnal-jurnal terkait. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Bepapas memiliki signifikansi yang dalam bagi masyarakat Melayu Sambas. Mulai dari bahan yang digunakan hingga tahapan pelaksanaannya, semua memiliki makna dan nilai yang relevan untuk diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, tidak jarang masyarakat Melayu Sambas menggunakan tradisi Bepapas sebagai sarana untuk mengajarkan nilai-nilai agama dan adab kepada generasi muda serta masyarakat secara umum. Dengan demikian, setiap tradisi, termasuk tradisi Bepapas, memiliki tujuan serta makna dan nilai tersendiri yang dapat diambil sebagai pelajaran dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the elements of Islamic culture within the mappatamma’tradition in the Julumate'ne Village community, Bontolempangan District, Gowa Regency. The appreciation of the procedure for completing the Qur'an is a compelling subject of discussion, given that the Qur'an serves as a fundamental guideline for Muslims. This research employs a cultural approach, utilizing qualitative data gathered from field studies and literature. To trace this data source, the researcher implemented techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The research methodology is descriptive, providing a detailed account of the characteristics of the research object. The findings indicate that the mappatamma’tradition emerged as a result of the efforts to promote Islam in South Sulawesi and reflects the creativity of the Muslim community, particularly the Bugis-Makassar, in deeply embedding Islamic principles within society. The mappatamma’tradition is executed in three stages: pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation. Rich in meaning and conveying messages that embody the community's value system, the mappatamma’tradition encompasses various Islamic values, including religious, social, educational, and scientific dimensions that are essential to uphold and perpetuate in contemporary life.
