Abstract

Sound change is a universal phenomenon and is strongly influenced by contextual factors. Variant sounds that appear as cognates across languages can be identified and explained through linguistic analysis within a cultural framework. This study aims to identify sound changes in the Haloban language by comparing them with a related language spoken on Simeulue Island, the Defayan language. A qualitative method was employed in this research. Data were collected through recordings of Halobanese wordlist utterances and interviews with native Halobanese speakers. Six informants participated in the study, comprising three male and three female native speakers. Data collection involved documentation techniques, including recording, transcription, and translation into both Indonesian and English. The data were analyzed for regular and semi-regular (sporadic) sound changes between Proto-Austronesian (PAN) and Haloban. The Haloban language is spoken in only two villages in the Pulau Banyak District, Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh Province. The results showed a regular sound change in which the PAN sound /b/ becomes /w/ in Haloban. Semi-regular changes included sound loss, addition, fusion, and unpacking. In comparison with the Defayan language, two regular sound changes were identified in Haloban: /b/ and /f/ becoming /w/. These sound changes contribute to the linguistic identity of the Halobanese people.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the development and feasibility of procedure text teaching materials based on e-handouts with a local culture approach in enhancing the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of class XI at SMK Madani Marindal 1. It used a Research and Development (RD) method using the ADDIE model, that consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The population and sample of this study include 44 students from three different classes: Office Administration (OTKP), Automotive Engineering (TBSM), and Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ). The results indicated the developed teaching material is deemed feasible. The first content expert rated as “Feasible” or 80%, while the second content expert obtained “Feasible” or 82%. The first design expert rated as “Highly Feasible” or 91%, and the second design expert rated as “Feasible” or 80%. The teacher’s assessment obtained “Highly Feasible” or 87%. The field implementation test involving 44 students across the three classes (21 TKJ, 15 TBSM, and 8 OTKP students) obtained “Feasible” or 76%. Additional data were collected through interviews with teachers and students

Abstract

Indonesian language courses are compulsory for every student. The purpose of this study is to describe the Indonesian language learning strategy by internalizing Indonesian language education in the development of critical thinking. Critical thinking criteria using FRISCO from Ennis. This research is qualitative with research instruments using observation, questionnaires, interviews, documentation, and tests. Whereas the data analysis technique following Miles and Huberman is done by data reduction and continuous data presentation. Data validity uses data triangulation. The findings show that the critical thinking skills of students on average meet the UISU National Standards. Development of a project-based Indonesian learning strategy that is tailored to the material. The process of internalizing Indonesian education emphasizes critical thinking skills in character building. Proven project-based Indonesian learning strategies can hone students' critical thinking skills so that student character education is formed.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance learning quality at SMA Negeri 2 Medan through training in the development of technology-based interactive 3D flash cards. The initiative responds to teachers’ and students’ need for more engaging learning tools that align with digital advancements. The training program was designed to give participants hands-on experience in creating and utilizing 3D flash cards, using visual design and augmented reality applications. The process emphasized a learning by doing approach, ensuring active involvement from planning to product evaluation. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment of participants’ work. The results reveal improved understanding among teachers and students regarding technology-based learning media, greater proficiency in 3D design applications, and better integration of 3D flash cards into classroom activities. Beyond fostering teacher creativity, the training also increased students’ motivation to learn. These findings suggest that digital technology, especially interactive 3D visual media, is effective in supporting secondary education. This training is expected to serve as a foundation for SMA Negeri 2 Medan to continue innovating in educational technology.
