Abstract

In the context of globalization, the Korean language has emerged as a strategic asset in Indonesia, especially in labor mobility, academic exchange, and cultural diplomacy. This study explores how Korean language education enhances Indonesia–South Korea relations by enabling Indonesian workers to access employment through the Employment Permit System (EPS) and facilitating academic opportunities via scholarships and university partnerships. The Korean Wave (Hallyu) further fuels interest in the language, especially among youth, aligning cultural fascination with professional aspirations. Despite its growing prominence, challenges such as unequal access, limited qualified teachers, and high costs hinder equitable implementation. By adopting a qualitative methodology and analyzing secondary data, this paper argues for stronger policy support, digital solutions, and bilateral cooperation to expand language education. Ultimately, Korean language learning fosters mutual understanding, soft power, and long-term collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea.

Hajj is an act of worship that completes the fifth pillar of Islam for a Muslim and is performed by those who are able. In its implementation in Indonesia, the hajj is organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) of Republic of Indonesia, including the offices of MORA in every city throughout Indonesia. The type of research used is field research with qualitative methods using descriptive analysis. The primary data sources in this research are obtained from the MORA of the Republic of Indonesia, while the secondary data was attained from journals or research related to the hajj financing model, then descriptive analysis of the data as material for the research findings. There are two findings in this research, firstly, the contract on the repayment of funds for prospective pilgrims, starting from the wakalah contract between prospective pilgrims and the MORA, this contract will take effect after the repayment of funds for prospective pilgrims. Secondly, the fiqh analysis of the principle of the contract applied to the repayment of funds for prospective pilgrims is wakalah and is appropriate as it should be. Even so, the MORA must also cooperate with stakeholders in providing the best service to hajj pilgrims so that they can perform the worship in holy lands (Madina and Mecca) comfortably and solemnly.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural identity of pesantren cadres through the rite of self-endowment (waqf basyari) at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG). The research employs a qualitative field methodology with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with eight informants (two pesantren leaders, four senior cadres, and two junior cadres), and documentation. Data analysis followed Spradley’s ethnographic method, including identifying social domains, semantic relationship analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and the identification of cultural themes. The findings reveal that the wakaf diri ritual at PMDG comprises three phases of a rite of passage: separation, liminality, and incorporation. Upon completing these phases, cadres gain a new status as wakaf cadres with a cultural identity encompassing symbolic and intrinsic dimensions. The symbolic identity includes the cadres' daily roles in educating students, assisting the pesantren, and pursuing studies, balanced by entitlements such as welfare as members of the pesantren community. The intrinsic identity consists of three core dimensions: (1) achievements in academic and non-academic fields, (2) dedication through the sacrifice of time, effort, thoughts, and even life, and (3) loyalty manifested as a commitment to PMDG's values, leadership, and system. The intrinsic identity reflects self-development, dedication, and profound love for the pesantren. This ritual shapes cadres who are loyal and uphold the values of the pesantren in their lives.

Abstract

The current research aimed to uncover the use of the descriptive qualitative method in Korean linguistic studies, with the main objective of investigating how this method is applied in such research. This study is not merely theoretical but also practical, as it provides guidelines for conducting research in Korean linguistics using descriptive qualitative approaches. The objects of this study were scholarly articles and relevant books, as well as previous research reports selected through purposive sampling, analyzed using a qualitative approach with a library research method and documentation techniques for data collection. The findings reveal six stages in conducting Korean linguistic research with descriptive qualitative methods: problem identification, literature review, determining research objectives, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting of findings. Furthermore, data analysis involves four essential steps, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. Although the descriptive qualitative method proves beneficial for research in Korean linguistics, it still presents challenges, particularly the potential subjectivity of researchers during data interpretation. Therefore, this research suggests that future studies should be supported by alternative perspectives, such as quantitative methods or a mixed-methods approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in linguistic research.
