Abstract

This study explores the pivotal role of social capital in managing conflicts during the transition from tourism to mining in Pangkal Niur Village. Using qualitative methods within a descriptive research framework, this study interviewed diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, the village government, tourism sector representatives, and opponents of this shift. Employing purposive sampling and inductive analysis, our findings reveal the significant role of social capital in mitigating conflicts between the tourism and mining sectors, particularly in the context of modernization and globalization. This holds profound implications for Pangkal Niur’s local community. The study underscores that social relationships form the basis for trust, cooperation, and community involvement, which is crucial for post-mining land restoration efforts. In regions with a significant mining sector like Bangka Belitung, these findings are highly relevant, emphasizing social capital as a catalyst for conflict resolution, promoting sustainable practices, safeguarding the environment, and enhancing community well-being in environmental management and sustainable development.

Abstract

This study explores intergenerational communication dynamics in Balun Village, known as the “Pancasila Village” for its religious and cultural diversity. Using a qualitative approach within a cultural studies framework, it examines how harmony is built and maintained between Generation X—bearers of traditional values—and Generation Z—the digitally active generation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and social media content analysis involving residents of various ages and religions. The findings reveal that intergenerational communication occurs not only verbally but also through actions, cultural participation, and digital symbolization. Generation X transmits harmony through daily practices and lived examples of tolerance, while Generation Z adapts these values through active involvement in youth organizations, interfaith festivals, and online content promoting diversity. Both generations play complementary roles in sustaining social cohesion: Gen X as preservers of local wisdom and Gen Z as mediators who reinterpret harmony in digital spaces. The study concludes that Balun Village’s multicultural harmony is maintained through continuous interaction between local traditions and digital expressions, highlighting intergenerational communication as a vital process for reproducing values, fostering social unity, and strengthening multicultural identity at the community level.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract The commercialization of public spaces is increasingly common in major cities, transforming areas once open and freely accessible into spaces focused on commercial activities. This shift not only changes the primary role of public spaces as venues for social interaction but also introduces challenges and opportunities for economic security. From an economic security perspective, the commercialization of public spaces offers both benefits and risks for communities and local governments. On one hand, it can stimulate economic growth through increased business activities, job creation, and urban revitalization. On the other hand, it can exacerbate socio-economic inequalities, marginalize vulnerable groups, limit access, and erode the social function of public spaces. This study investigates the impact of public space commercialization on economic security, focusing on how this transformation affects accessibility, economic disparity, and social welfare sustainability. Through literature analysis and case studies, the study provides comprehensive insights into managing public space commercialization sustainably while upholding inclusive and equitable economic security principles. The findings indicate that while commercialization offers economic opportunities, it also heightens social inequality, highlighting the need for inclusive policies to safeguard economic security. These findings aim to guide policymakers in balancing economic interests with the social functions of public spaces, ensuring that policies are inclusive, equitable, and support sustainable economic security for all societal groups

Abstract

In the era of rapidly developing digital business, understanding the relationship between Customer Satisfaction Management Strategy (CSMS) and Brand Loyalty (BL) is crucial for a company success. Digital business platforms present unique opportunities and challenges, making it essential to explore strategies that foster strong customer relationships and loyalty. This research aims to investigate the impact of CSMS on BL in a digital business context using the SmartPLS approach. The study seeks to provide both theoretical and practical insights into the dynamics of customer satisfaction and loyalty in digital environments. Data was collected through online surveys of customers from various digital business platforms. The analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS, which is particularly suited for examining complex relationships between latent variables. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant relationship between CSMS and BL. These findings highlight the importance of fostering meaningful interactions between brands and customers to enhance loyalty in digital business environments. The practical implication of this research is the necessity for companies to design marketing strategies that prioritize meeting customer needs and preferences. This approach not only strengthens customer loyalty but also equips businesses to navigate the challenges of competitive digital markets. The study contributes valuable insights for business practitioners and adds to the literature on marketing management in the ever-evolving digital era.

Abstract

The political instrumentalization of ethnicity is not a new issue and dates back to the time when the country’s name changed from Khorasan to Afghanistan. The ethnic divisions deepened during the presidencies of Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai. This article delves into the intricate dynamics of ethnic divisions and their political instrumentalization in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021. While a lot of research has examined Afghanistan’s ethnic landscape, limited attention has been paid to how post-2001 leaders mobilized ethnic identities to entrench political power. Focusing on Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani’s administrations, both from the Pashtun ethnic group, this study draws on Weale and Diamond’s theories of ethnic favoritism, dominance, and undemocratic leadership. Using a qualitative approach through document analysis and literature review, this study found that both leaders leveraged their ethnic identity to consolidate power and influence policymaking. Pashtuns were systematically favored in key governmental appointments, often at the expense of other major ethnic groups such as Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks. This political exclusion has deepened interethnic mistrust and fragmented the national fabric. By highlighting the long-term consequences of ethnic favoritism, this study contributes to ongoing debates on identity politics and governance in post-conflict states.
