Abstract

Information technology has fundamentally transformed the economic sector, significantly accelerating the adoption of digital financial services, including mobile banking. In Indonesia, although mobile banking usage has been rising sharply, its adoption in Islamic banking remains relatively limited, with approximately 11.47 million users compared to 97.22 million in conventional banking. This disparity highlights a critical research gap. Given Indonesia’s leading position in the global Islamic finance Development index, it is imperative to investigate the factors influencing the adoption of Islamic mobile banking. Accordingly, this study aims to examine and analyse the determinants of intention to use Islamic mobile banking services. Data are collected from 302 respondents in Indonesia and analysed using partial least squares structural Equation modelling. This study finds that constructs within the UTAUT model, namely Performance Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Conditions, significantly influence Behavioural Intention to continue using Islamic mobile banking, albeit with small effect sizes. In contrast, Effort Expectancy shows no significant effect. The variables of e-Service Quality, Perceived Expected Benefits, and Perceived Cyber Security significantly affect Behavioural Intention. These findings provide empirical evidence on the key factors driving the continued use of Islamic mobile banking. The findings indicate that enhancing Perceived Expected Benefits is essential. Islamic banks prioritise their policies to ensure that all features are transparent and fully aligned with Sharia principles, optimise communication about the benefits of mobile banking, and strengthen their cybersecurity infrastructure to facilitate broader adoption within society.

Abstract

Islamic banking in Indonesia, especially in East Java, has enormous potential due to the dominant Muslim population that can contribute significantly to the regional economy. However, the level of public participation in using Islamic banking services, especially mudharabah savings, remains low. Therefore, an in-depth study is needed to understand the factors that influence the decision to choose mudharabah deposits in Bank Syariah Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that can influence the interest of the people of East Java in using mudharabah deposits at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). The method used is a quantitative approach with SEM-PLS analysis. Data was obtained through questionnaires distributed to the people of East Java, resulting in 289 samples for analysis. The results of the analysis indicate that interest in BSI mudharabah deposits is significantly influenced by the variables of attitude toward behavior, religiosity, and risk perception. On the other hand, the variables of subjective norm and perceived behavioral control have not been able to exert a significant influence on interest in BSI mudharabah deposits.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs carried out by Pabrik Gula (PG) Tjoekir and their impact on the welfare of the community in Cukir Village. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results indicate that PG Tjoekir’s CSR initiatives are categorized into four main sectors: economy, socio-cultural, infrastructure, and health. In the economic sector, the company implements sugarcane farming partnerships and entrepreneurship training. However, employment through fixed-term contracts (PKWT) is excluded from CSR since it is part of the company’s operational activities governed by tax law No. 36 of 2008 and Company Law No. 40 of 2007. In the socio-cultural domain, the company supports religious and cultural events such as the Haul of Gus Dur and contributes to the construction of worship facilities. In the infrastructure sector, CSR contributions include road development and the normalization of 2,700 meters of irrigation canals. In the health sector, PG Tjoekir facilitates free medical services, fogging, and the distribution of food packages and vitamins to the community. Overall, these programs have had a positive impact on improving community welfare, although the benefits are not yet fully equitable and participatory. The study concludes that PG Tjoekir's CSR addresses key aspects of the Triple Bottom Line and Maqashid Shariah values. However, improvements are needed in transparency, impact evaluation, and community engagement to ensure inclusive and sustainable development.

Abstract

Several things affect the achievement of targets, such as internal and external factors of the zakat management organization. The level of compliance with paying zakat is one of the external factors that can affect the receipt of zakat. So, this research will examine indicators that affect the level of compliance to pay zakat in Indonesia, using religiosity, knowledge, and characteristics of muzakki. The approach in this research is a quantitative approach with probit regression. This research collects 200 respondents as samples from Muslim-majority areas, such as East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Java, and South Sulawesi. It is hoped that this research will find indicators that can influence the level of muzakki compliance in paying zakat. The probit regression results, of all the variables used, there are two significant variables, namely religiosity and knowledge. Meanwhile, demographic variables such as age, income, education, marital status, and gender are insignificant because some people who pay zakat are not based on whether they have reached nishab. They always set aside 2.5% of their income for zakat after payday. The statement reinforces other evidence that people who pay zakat in Indonesia are more driven by factors of faith and trust. Theoretically, this study offers a new research model to explain muzakki compliance in paying zakat. Empirically, this research contributes to zakat managers' focus programs on increasing religiosity and knowledge of muzakki.

Abstract

Growing public awareness of environmental issues is driving changes in consumer behavior toward choosing more environmentally friendly products, including cosmetics. At the same time, digital advancements have made it easier for consumers to make online purchases through e-commerce. This study aims to analyze the factors that may influence the intention to purchase eco-friendly halal cosmetics via e-commerce among residents of East Java, using an extension of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT 2) model that incorporates the variables of trust and halal labeling. A quantitative approach was used. The study used purposive sampling, with a total of 414 respondents. Data analysis was performed using the PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling) method. The results of the study indicate that effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price-value, habit, and trust have a significant positive influence on the intention to purchase eco-friendly halal cosmetics on e-commerce platforms. Meanwhile, performance expectancy, social influence, and the halal label do not significantly influence the intention to purchase eco-friendly halal cosmetics on e-commerce platforms.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of Halal Awareness, Social Media Marketing, and Destination Image on Muslim tourists' visit intention toward Muslim-friendly tourism destinations in East Java, a province with a large Muslim population and considerable but not yet optimally developed halal-tourism potential. A quantitative associative approach was employed through an online survey (Google Form) using a Likert scale, distributed to Muslim tourists selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS, covering outer model testing (convergent and discriminant validity, reliability), inner model testing (collinearity, R-square, Q-square, F-square), and hypothesis testing via bootstrapping. The results show that Halal Awareness and Destination Image each have a significant positive effect on visit intention, while Social Media Marketing has no significant direct effect. The three variables jointly contribute to explaining visit intention, though a considerable share of its variance remains unexplained by the model. These findings indicate that Muslim tourists' decisions are primarily value-driven, guided by halal awareness and destination image, while social media functions only as a complementary information channel rather than a direct determinant of visit intention. The study recommends that destination managers and local governments strengthen halal facility development, reinforce destination branding as Muslim-friendly, and redesign social media content to explicitly highlight halal attributes.

Abstract

The growth of the Shariah banking industry in Indonesia has not been matched by an optimal increase in market share; therefore, it is necessary to examine the factors influencing public intention to adopt Shariah banking. This study aims to analyze the effects of Islamic Financial Literacy (IFL), Trust, and Skepticism on the Behavioral Intention to Adopt Sharia Banking, with Perceived Shariah Compliance (PSC) serving as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach with an explanatory design was employed. The sample consisted of 190 individuals of productive age who had never used Sharia banking services, selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that Islamic Financial Literacy, Skepticism, and Perceived Shariah Compliance significantly influence Behavioral Intention, whereas Trust does not have a direct effect on Behavioral Intention. Additionally, Islamic Financial Literacy, Trust, and Skepticism significantly influence Perceived Shariah Compliance. Mediation analysis reveals that Perceived Shariah Compliance partially mediates the relationships of Islamic Financial Literacy and Skepticism with Behavioral Intention, while fully mediating the relationship between Trust and Behavioral Intention. These findings confirm that public perception of Shariah compliance is the most dominant factor in increasing the intention to adopt Shariah banking. This study contributes to the literature on consumer behavior and Shariah banking marketing and offers insights for the Shariah banking industry to enhance Islamic financial literacy, strengthen trust, reduce skepticism, and improve public Perceived Shariah Compliance.
