Abstract

Abstract

Internalization of spiritual values is the process of instilling and integrating values derived from spiritual teachings into an individual's self, thus becoming part of their daily thought patterns, attitudes, and behaviors. In the educational context, low academic honesty, such as cheating, plagiarism, and assignment manipulation, indicates an integrity crisis that cannot be addressed solely through rules and sanctions. Therefore, Guidance and Counseling (BK) has a strategic role in developing an approach that is not only oriented towards cognitive aspects but also touches on the affective and spiritual dimensions of students. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach (library research), namely by analyzing various scientific sources such as books, journals, and previous research results relevant to the concept of internalizing spiritual values, BK services, and academic honesty. This study focuses on how the process of internalizing spiritual values can be integrated into BK services as a preventive measure and character development. The results of the study indicate that internalization of spiritual values in BK can be carried out through the stages of understanding values, appreciating meaning, habituating behavior, and self-reflection. Values such as honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, and integrity are instilled through individual counseling, group guidance, and classical services that emphasize intrinsic moral awareness. A spiritual approach helps students recognize that honesty is not merely an academic obligation, but rather a moral commitment aligned with their beliefs and the meaning of life. Thus, internalizing spiritual values through guidance and counseling is an effective and sustainable strategy for enhancing academic honesty and developing students' character with integrity

Abstract

In increasingly plural and polarized societies, religion continues to play an ambivalent role as both a source of conflict and a potential resource for peace. This article presents an integrative narrative review examining the contribution of interfaith education to peacebuilding, with particular attention to curricular and pedagogical implications within formal and non-formal educational settings. Drawing on interdisciplinary literature from peace studies, religious education, theology, and educational research published predominantly within the last 10–15 years, the study synthesizes conceptual, empirical, and policy-oriented sources. While adopting a global and comparative perspective, this review also engages Islamic ethical traditions and educational contexts in Muslim-majority societies as integral to contemporary interfaith peacebuilding discourses. Using a thematic synthesis approach, five major themes are identified: conceptualizations of peace in education; religion as both barrier and bridge to peace; interfaith education as a means of fostering religious literacy and ethical awareness; pedagogical strategies for interfaith peace education; and educational outcomes and transformative impacts. The findings indicate that interfaith education supports peacebuilding by addressing cultural and structural dimensions of violence, enhancing dialogical competence, and cultivating empathy, critical thinking, and civic responsibility among learners. Based on this synthesis, the article proposes the Integrative Interfaith Peace Education Framework (IIPEF), which links theoretical foundations, interfaith learning processes, pedagogical strategies, and peace-oriented educational outcomes. The study contributes to the literature by repositioning religion including Islamic educational and ethical perspectives as a pedagogical asset rather than a risk factor, and by offering a coherent framework to guide curriculum development, teacher education, and educational policy in plural societies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between teacher role modeling and students’ moral development strategies at SB Muhammadiyah Kepong Malaysia, an Islamic diaspora educational institution facing the challenge of character formation within a multicultural environment. The research employed a quantitative correlational design involving all teachers as respondents through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires measuring teacher role modeling and students’ moral development strategies and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The findings reveal that teacher role modeling was rated at a very high level (M = 4.64), as were the strategies for students’ moral development (M = 4.74). The Pearson correlation test yielded a coefficient of r = 0.834, indicating a very strong positive relationship between the two variables. These results suggest that the better the teacher’s role modeling, the more effective the implementation of students’ moral development strategies. The most influential dimensions of role modeling include honesty, discipline, exemplary worship practices, patience, and consistency between words and actions. This study highlights teacher role modeling as a key determinant of successful moral development in the context of Islamic diaspora education. Therefore, strengthening the school’s religious culture, promoting habitual worship practices, monitoring student behavior, and fostering sustainable collaboration between schools and parents are essential for consistently instilling moral values in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

Religious discipline is one of the core objectives of Islamic education at the junior secondary level; however, limited school time to facilitate obligatory prayers and weak supervision of worship outside school create a gap between students’ religious knowledge and their actual worship practices. This study aimed to examine the implementation of a prayer monitoring book as an instrument for fostering students’ religious discipline, to analyze teachers’, students’, and parents’ perceptions of its use, and to identify the forms of religious discipline and the obstacles encountered in its implementation at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Makassar. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with participants comprising the principal, Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan teachers, homeroom teachers, Grade VII–IX students, and parents. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that the prayer monitoring book is implemented systematically through a mechanism of completion and verification by parents and regular inspection by teachers, thereby contributing to increased punctuality in performing prayers, enhanced personal responsibility among students, and greater awareness of worship outside the school environment. Nevertheless, technical, psychological, and coordination-related constraints were identified that affect the consistency of its implementation. It can be concluded that the prayer monitoring book is effective as an instrument for nurturing religious discipline when supported by consistent supervision and sustained collaboration between school and parents, with important implications for the development of more humanistic and reflective worship monitoring instruments in the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

Environmental degradation and climate change are urgent ethical and theological challenges prompting faith-based responses. In Islam, the principles of tauhid (oneness), khilafah (stewardship), and amanah (sacred trust) are reframed into an ecological ethic affirming environmental care as a religious duty. This study aims to explore how Muhammadiyah constructs its eco-theological discourse by analyzing peer-reviewed works from 2021 to 2024 through an integrative literature review and summary matrix. The analysis identifies three core dimensions: theology, education, and activism. Muhammadiyah expands al-Ma’un theology to include ecological justice, embeds environmental values in educational institutions, and promotes activism through legal advocacy, fatwas, and grassroots movements. These efforts position Muhammadiyah as an ethical force in environmental governance. Findings reveal a holistic, replicable model integrating theology, education, and civic action. The study also acknowledges limitations, including limited institutional resources and the absence of empirical evaluation of long-term impacts.
