Abstract

This paper explores the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to transform higher education. Generative AI is a technology that can create new content, like text, images, and code, by learning patterns from existing data. As generative AI tools become more popular, there is growing interest in how AI can improve teaching, learning, and research. Higher education faces many challenges, such as meeting diverse learning needs and preparing students for fast-changing careers. Generative AI offers solutions by personalizing learning experiences, making education more engaging, and supporting skill development through adaptive content. It can also help researchers by automating tasks like data analysis and hypothesis generation, making research faster and more efficient. Moreover, generative AI can streamline administrative tasks, improving efficiency across institutions. However, using AI also raises concerns about privacy, bias, academic integrity, and equal access. To address these issues, institutions must establish clear ethical guidelines, ensure data security, and promote fairness in AI use. Training for faculty and AI literacy for students are essential to maximize benefits while minimizing risks. The paper suggests a strategic framework for integrating AI in higher education, focusing on infrastructure, ethical practices, and continuous learning. By adopting AI responsibly, higher education can become more inclusive, engaging, and practical, preparing students for the demands of a technology-driven world.

Abstract

Misconceptions are a classic problem experienced by students in learning which can affect academic achievement, and difficulty understanding advanced physics concepts, and this has the potential to inherit the same mistakes when students become teachers. The unavailability of instruments to identify misconceptions makes it difficult for lecturers to explore student misconceptions, so it is necessary to develop a set of diagnostic test instruments. This research aims to design and test the feasibility of a three-level diagnostic test instrument which will then be used as a tool to identify student misconceptions in the Basic Physics course. This research method is research and development (R&D) of the Plomp model with stages: 1) preliminary investigation, 2) design, 3) realization/construction, 4) testing, evaluation, and revision, and 5) implementation. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and tests, with research instruments in the form of validation sheets and diagnostic test questions. The content validity data analysis technique uses a percentage scale of feasibility categories based on expert judgment and construct validity testing using item analysis software version 2.03. The results of testing the feasibility of the diagnostic test instrument in terms of content validity obtained an overall percentage of 97.21%, while the construct validity test found that 75% of the questions were suitable for use. Thus, it can be concluded that the diagnostic test instrument that has been designed is suitable for use and makes a significant contribution to identifying student misconceptions, as well as helping to improve the quality of education, especially in physics learning, and supporting better academic goals.

Abstract

Based on BPS (2022) data, healthcare facilities in Mendo Barat District are very limited. There is only 1 polyclinic, 2 public health centers, and 2 pharmacies, making it difficult for some residents in remote areas to access available healthcare services. This situation encourages the community to engage in self-medication by purchasing antibiotics from general stores rather than seeking treatment at healthcare facilities. In Petaling Village, many people still use antibiotics freely and store them at home because they stop taking antibiotics when they feel better, which can increase cases of resistance. According to research by Sari & Purba (2024) on antibiotic usage knowledge using leaflet media, the difference between pretest and posttest scores in Petaling Village was not very significant, increasing from 54% to 66%. The partners for this activity are Petaling Village, Mendo Barat District, Bangka Regency. The activity was carried out on June 6th, 2024. The method used was a community empowerment education model to improve skills in selecting medications, known as the Active Learning Method (CBIA), utilizing booklets. The study results showed a significant difference in knowledge before and after providing antibiotic education using booklets, with a p-value of 0.001 > 0.05.

Abstract

The Graduate School of Syiah Kuala University consists of five main buildings, one of which is Building B. Building B serves as a space for educational activities at the master's (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels. Based on observations, Building B features windows (openings) of very large dimensions, with the building and window orientations facing west and east. This condition results in excessive and glaring natural lighting, causing thermal discomfort. Consequently, the rooms are often used with curtains, artificial lighting such as lamps, and tinted glass windows, specifically ray-band glass. This study aims to evaluate the natural lighting levels in lecture rooms based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI No. 6197-2020). Data collection was conducted using a quantitative method, obtained through direct visual observations and field measurements, including openings, building dimensions, and illumination levels measured with a Lux Meter. The measured illumination values were then analyzed based on the SNI No. 6197-2020 standard and the observational results, enabling the identification of factors affecting natural lighting intensity. The findings indicate that the natural lighting levels within the building do not meet the SNI 6197-2020 standard for classrooms, which is 350 Lux. The average illumination value measured using the Lux Meter was 109.69 Lux.
