Abstract

The problem faced by researchers, in this case lecturers at universities, after carrying out research and making research reports is deciding where to publish the results of their research. Analytic Hierarchy Process is an effective method for ranking alternative journals. This helps ensure that their research is published in a reputable journal that will reach the appropriate audience and have a positive impact on their career. The data collection method in this research was first sourced from books, the internet, and previously a study of articles and journals; secondly, create a checklist of criteria and sub-criteria from 20 (twenty) articles, namely 4 articles from Elsevier, 4 articles from Springer Nature, 4 articles from Taylor Francis, 4 articles from Wiley-Blackwell, and 4 articles from Sage. Article selection was carried out randomly. The results of distributing questionnaires were analyzed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process Online System designed by Klaus D. Goepel. The main aim of this study was to determine the appropriate weighting of several criteria that explain why previously published manuscripts are submitted to their intended publication. The criteria for accepting article manuscripts in reputable international journals using the Analytical Hierarchy Process model (standard Analytic Hierarchy Process linear scale methods) is that the first priority is the "novelty" criterion with a weight of 0.502. The second priority is the "scientific" criterion with a weight of 0.201. Furthermore, the third and fourth priorities are "manuscript" and "content" respectively with weights of 0.142 and 0.078. Meanwhile, the last priority is "Interesting" with a weight of 0.076.

Abstract

The distribution of 3 kg LPG cylinders at UD. Tri Surya Efendi is currently conducted conventionally, without structured route planning, leading to fuel wastage, longer travel distances, and high operational costs. This research aims to determine the optimal distribution route by applying the Saving Matrix and Nearest Neighbor methods for 26 regular customers in the Helvetia–Marelan area with a total daily demand of 100 cylinders. Prior to optimization, customers were segmented into three geographic zones, and the distances between the depot and customer locations were obtained using Google Maps. The Saving Matrix method produced three routes spanning 28.06 km at a daily cost of Rp14,300, reducing operational costs by 64.25% compared to the initial Rp40,000. The Nearest Neighbor method produced four routes spanning 30.26 km at Rp15,130, reducing costs by 62.18%. The results show that the Saving Matrix method is more efficient in minimizing travel distance and distribution costs. This study contributes an empirical comparison of both methods in the context of small-scale LPG distribution with prior geographic zone segmentation, a procedure rarely documented in existing literature, and offers a practical reference for improving local distribution efficiency.

Abstract

Poverty in North Sumatra exhibits considerable spatial heterogeneity, yet comparative evidence on the performance of clustering algorithms for identifying multidimensional regional poverty patterns remains limited. This study aimed to compare K-Means and K-Median in clustering 33 regencies and municipalities using five poverty-related indicators averaged over 2022–2025: percentage of poor population, poverty line, poverty gap index, poverty severity index, and adjusted per capita expenditure. A quantitative descriptive-comparative design was applied using secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province. All variables were transformed through Min–Max normalization, the Elbow Method was used to determine the optimal number of clusters, and clustering performance was evaluated using the Silhouette Coefficient. The analysis identified three clusters for both algorithms. K-Means produced cluster sizes of 28, 2, and 3 regions, whereas K-Median generated 21, 2, and 10 regions. A notable finding was that both methods consistently placed South Nias and North Nias in the same distinct cluster, characterized by comparatively high poverty gap and poverty severity values and low adjusted per capita expenditure. K-Means achieved a higher Silhouette Coefficient than K-Median, with values of 0.2953 and 0.1515, respectively, indicating comparatively better overall clustering performance. These findings show that algorithm selection influences both cluster structure and the substantive interpretation of multidimensional poverty patterns. The study provides empirical support for targeted and context-sensitive regional poverty alleviation policies across the diverse administrative areas of North Sumatra.

Abstract

Efficiency in the distribution process is crucial for companies to reduce operational costs while maintaining service satisfaction. This research aims to optimize the product delivery route for the Keripik Cinta Mas Hendro business by applying the Clarke and Wright Savings algorithm approach to solve the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). This method works by calculating the distance savings from combining distribution points, then constructing optimal routes based on the order of highest savings while still considering vehicle capacity. The data used consists of customer coordinates, which are processed into distances between locations using the Euclidean formula. The results show that the distribution route, which was initially divided into three lanes with a total length of 403.54 km, can be simplified into two lanes with a total length of 272 km. This study proves that the Clarke and Wright Savings algorithm is able to provide a more cost-effective distribution solution. Abstract

This community service program, conducted through the Community Service Program (KKN), aims to support household economic empowerment and community health resilience in Bangun Purba Village through the creation of a living pharmacy. A living pharmacy is the use of land for the cultivation of family medicinal plants that can be used as an alternative to simple treatments and for health promotion and prevention. The program begins with coordination and obtaining permits from the village government, followed by land provision, site preparation, and the planting of family medicinal plants by KKN students. As a form of indirect education, information media is provided in the form of brochures containing the names and benefits of medicinal plants that are laminated and attached directly to each plant. The results of the program implementation indicate that the living pharmacy has the potential to provide benefits to the community, both in terms of health and household economics, particularly in reducing dependence on modern medicines for minor health needs. In addition, the existence of information media on medicinal plants supports the independent and sustainable increase in community knowledge. However, this program faces several challenges, such as limited time for KKN implementation and the sustainability of plant care. Overall, the creation of a living pharmacy is a form of community service that is applicable and relevant to the village's needs.

Abstract

Poverty remains a persistent and unevenly distributed development challenge across North Sumatra Province, so models capable of capturing this regional variation are urgently needed to support more precisely targeted poverty alleviation policies. This study develops a model for the number of poor people in 33 regencies/cities of North Sumatra Province in 2025 using Geographically Weighted Negative Binomial Regression (GWNBR). The response variable is the number of poor people (Y), while the explanatory variables are the Open Unemployment Rate (X1), Human Development Index (X2), Senior High School Education Level (X3), Labor Force Participation Rate (X4), and the percentage of households with access to proper sanitation (X5). The analysis consists of Poisson regression, Negative Binomial regression, Moran's I testing for spatial autocorrelation, the Breusch–Pagan test for spatial heterogeneity, and GWNBR using an Adaptive Bisquare weighting function. The Poisson model shows severe overdispersion, with a deviance-to-degrees-of-freedom ratio of 3,820.53. Moran's I indicates no significant spatial autocorrelation in the residuals (I = -0.0202; p = 0.1180), whereas the Breusch–Pagan test confirms significant spatial heterogeneity (BP = 15.7949; p = 0.0075). The GWNBR model produces a deviation of 18.420 and McFadden's R² of 0.150000 and captures differences in the effects of explanatory variables across locations. Based on significant local parameters, the study area is divided into two groups. Group 1 consists of Mandailing Natal Regency and South Nias Regency, with X1, X2, and X3 being significant, while Group 2 consists of the other 31 regencies/cities, with X2 and X3 being significant. These findings indicate that GWNBR can describe poverty-related factors locally and provide information relevant to location-specific poverty reduction policies. The results are expected to help local governments design region-specific poverty alleviation programs rather than relying on uniform province-wide policies, and it is recommended that future studies incorporate additional socioeconomic variables and more recent panel data to further improve the model's accuracy and policy relevance.

Abstract

Urban traffic congestion in Indonesian cities is closely linked to student commuting, yet the behavioral factors underlying mode choice are numerous and strongly correlated, which limits conventional classification models. This study integrates Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with a Random Forest (RF) classifier to predict transportation mode choice among university students in Medan, Indonesia. Data were obtained from 1,177 valid questionnaire responses covering 39 items, which were aggregated into eight behavioral constructs; seven were retained after sampling-adequacy screening. Applying the Kaiser criterion, two principal components were extracted, jointly explaining 70.42% of the total variance, and used as predictors of six transportation modes. The RF model attained 66.09% accuracy and a Cohen's Kappa of 0.5714, indicating moderate agreement between predicted and observed choices. Performance differed markedly across modes, from an F1-score of 82.37% for Mini Bus to 17.65% for Online Car Transportation, which was frequently misclassified as Online Motorcycle Transportation. The findings indicate that a compact two-component representation retains substantial behavioral information while yielding moderate predictive performance, and that mode-specific data enrichment is needed before such models can inform campus transportation planning.

Abstract

Reliable mortality forecasting is essential for demographic planning and actuarial decision-making. This study compared the forecasting performance of the Classical and Time-Varying Lee–Carter models using World Population Prospects (WPP) 2024 mortality data for Indonesia and Japan (1970–2023). Both models were estimated using 1970–2015 data and evaluated on 2016–2023 through out-of-sample validation based on MAE, RMSE, and MAPE. For Indonesia, the Time-Varying model yielded a slightly lower MAPE (7.262%) than the Classical model (8.086%), whereas the Classical model produced slightly lower forecasting errors for Japan. Overall, the differences between the models were modest. The findings suggest that, in this study, forecasting performance was associated more closely with population-specific mortality characteristics than with model complexity alone.
