Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the success of enrichment activities in the National Movement for Forest and Land Rehabilitation program that has been carried out at the Technical Implementation Unit of the Pocut Meurah Intan Forest Park Forest Management Unit. Plant observations were carried out using the Systematic Sampling with Random Start method, with a sampling intensity of 5% or a research area of 5 Ha from a 100 ha enrichment area. The experimental parameters are the type composition, the number of plants, and the state of health of the plant. The results of field observations found that the design of plant types was six: three types of cash plants and three types of Multiple Purpose Tree Species (MPTS). Jackfruit (Artocarpus Integra) is the most dominant growing plant. At the same time, Meranti (Shorea sp) is the plant that grows the least. There were 757 plant stems from the entire plot, with a growing percentage of 37.85% and a healthy percentage of 34.80%. The failure of planting in this program is due to the lack of community involvement in preparing plans for these activities, the lack of continuous supervision, and the timing of implementation does not correspond to the growing season.

Abstract

Abstract: The Sumber Nyolo Natural Sacred Site (NSS) is an area venerated by the local community and characterized by a distinctive plant community structure resembling a forest landscape. This study aims to analyze the role of the Sacred Natural Site (SNS) in plant conservation and ecosystem services, as well as to examine the cultural values of the local community associated with its existence. The research employed a plot sampling method, consisting of four plots distributed throughout the area, with plot sizes of 20 × 20 m for tree-level vegetation, 10 × 10 m for poles, 5 × 5 m for saplings, and 2 × 2 m for seedlings. Data were analyzed descriptively using the Importance Value Index (IVI), Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H’), Evenness index (E), Simpson’s dominance index (C), and endemism (End). A total of 53 plant species belonging to 26 families were recorded in the NSS. At the tree and sapling levels, Syzygium pycnanthum was the dominant species with the highest IVI values. At the pole level, co-dominance occurred among Bambusa blumeana, Dendrocalamus asper, and Syzygium littorale, while Syzygium littorale was dominant at the seedling level with the highest IVI value compared to other species. The plant community in the NSS is categorized as stable, as indicated by H’ values of 3.43 (trees), 3.17 (poles), 4.45 (saplings), and 2.23 (seedlings). Species distribution was relatively even, with E’ values of 0.60 (trees), 0.49 (poles), 0.74 (saplings), and 0.34 (seedlings). Moreover, the absence of a dominant species was indicated by C values approaching zero. Most of the recorded plants were local species with a high endemism rate of 94%. Vegetation in the NSS provides various ecological services, including regulating, provisioning, and supporting services. In addition, the NSS functions as a socio-cultural center for the local community, serving as the venue for traditional events such as the Bersih Desa ceremony.

Abstract

Abstract: A habitable house is a dwelling that meets the standards of quality, comfort, accessibility, health, and sustainability, as regulated in Law No. 1 of 2011 on Housing and Settlement Areas. However, limited public understanding of thermal comfort often results in house construction that solely follows design blueprints without considering environmental factors such as building orientation, ventilation, and materials used. This community service activity aims to enhance thermal comfort in habitable houses through socialization and the implementation of a prototype design adapted to local climate conditions. The activity involved 15 participants, including village officials, members of the Family Empowerment and Welfare group (PKK), and Local Village Facilitators (PLD). Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, interviews, and direct observation of adaptive design implementation in sample houses. The results indicate that while the examined houses can be categorized as habitable, certain factors still influence thermal comfort, including ventilation orientation and openings, number of occupants, house size, and building materials. This socialization program successfully improved participants' knowledge and skills by 60%, particularly in planning cross-ventilation and selecting thermal insulation materials. Additionally, measurements using a 5-in-1 Environment Meter recorded an average indoor temperature reduction of 2°C after ventilation improvements and the use of more suitable materials. These findings demonstrate that education and adaptive design interventions can enhance thermal comfort and overall housing quality in tropical regions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the utilization of sugar palm (Arecaceae) plants in the Acehnese community in Gandapura District, Bireuen Regency. In collecting data, this study distributed questionnaires, semi-structured and open-ended free interviews to various age groups with a total of 11 questions. The research sample in this study amounted to 153 people. The sampling method was carried out using the purposeful sampling method; namely, the population has homogeneous and stratified elements/members. Samples were taken based on age groups, namely young adults (aged 20-35) who are actively working to earn a living; middle adults (aged 36-50) who are generally married and have a permanent residence; and older people (> 50 years) who are considered village leaders/elders and have influence in the village. The results showed that 13 types of sugar palm plants were utilized. The utilization of 13 types of plants consists of 7 types as food ingredients, 7 types as craft materials, 5 types as building materials, 7 types for traditional medicine, 2 types for traditional ceremonies and 5 types of ornamental plants. To determine the utilization of plant species diversity, an analysis of the level of importance of a plant species for the community was carried out, namely by calculating the Cultural Significance Index (ICS). The highest ICS value was found in the Cocos nucifera plant, namely 293, followed by Areca nut (Areca catechu) and Areca nut (Arenga pinnata) with values of 113 and 111.
