Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal extraction method of potassium from corn cobs in semibatch and batch. In this research, semibatch maceration is a leaching process used to obtain the time needed for the solvent to absorb alkali in corn cob ash. While the batch system maceration is a leaching process used to obtain the amount of time needed for the solvent to reach saturation point. Data collection techniques in this research are: sample preparation and drying of corn cobs, corn cobs pyrolysis, semibatch and batch maceration of corn cobs ash, and determination of alkali content by titration method. From the results, it can be concluded that corn cobss have the potential to be used as a source of alkali because the potassium (K) content in corn cob ash is 25.78%. The moisture content and yield of corn cob ash were 77.5% and 17%, respectively. The saturated solvent time for semibatch maceration was 3.5 days, while for batch maceration it was 12 days. Where at consecutive ratios of 1 gram/25 mL; 2 grams/25 mL; 3 grams/25 mL; and 4 grams/25 mL each had concentration values that still increased from 0.112 N to 0.9672 N; 0.223 N to 3.2364 N; 0.3348 N to 2.0646 N; and 0.558N to 3.6828 N. The highest alkali yield was obtained at a corn cob ash/solvent ratio of 1 gram/25 mL, which was 20.15%.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan wawasan mitra, yaitu warga Desa Karang Anyar, terkait pengelolaan limbah organik rumah tangga. Limbah diolah menjadi produk yang bermanfaat dan mitra dilatih keterampilannya dalam pembuatan pupuk organik cair. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM ini adalah sosialisasi berupa edukasi tentang pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan limbah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik cair serta praktek langsung pembuatan pupuk organik cair. Berdasarkan penilaian yang dilakukan terhadap jawaban pre-test dan post-test yang diberikan kepada kelompok mitra, diketahui bahwa  kegiatan ini meningkatkan pengetahuan kelompok mitra pada aspek wawasan tentang tata cara mengelola limbah rumah tangga dengan baik sebesar 82,3% dan pengetahuan tentang pengolahan limbah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik cair meningkat sebesar 70,8%.

Abstract

The Peatland Care Independent Village (DMPG) program in North Sumatra, implemented in 2024, was designed to enhance environmental quality, protect, and sustainably manage peatland ecosystems. The program involved structured community engagement through various stages, including the recruitment of community facilitators, technical training, the establishment of peatland ecosystem task forces, the development of community activity plans (RKM), and the implementation and presentation of these plans. It was carried out in 12 villages across four districts in North Sumatra. Activities focused on local economic development, such as crop and livestock farming, handicraft production, and capacity building for the community. The stages of the DMPG program are implemented simultaneously and continuously, involving all levels of society and monitored by the university and a delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. At the end of the program, an evaluation was conducted to measure the impact on the quality of the peatland environment and the economic improvement of the communities in the 12 target villages. The results showed significant improvements in the environmental quality of peatland areas and local economic growth. A survey conducted across 12 villages revealed that 10 villages considered the program highly beneficial in improving the environmental quality of peatland areas, while 2 villages found it beneficial. Regarding economic benefits, 8 villages reported significant improvements in local economies, and 4 villages reported moderate benefits. The program successfully raised community awareness of the importance of peatland conservation and fostered an effective collaborative model involving universities, government agencies, and local communities. These findings underscore the importance of an integrated approach to restoring the ecological functions of peatlands and improving the welfare of surrounding communities.Program Desa Mandiri Peduli Gambut (DMPG) di Sumatera Utara tahun 2024 dirancang untuk meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan, melindungi, dan mengelola ekosistem gambut secara berkelanjutan. Program ini melibatkan pendampingan masyarakat melalui tahapan yang mencakup rekrutmen fasilitator masyarakat, bimbingan teknis, pembentukan tim kerja ekosistem gambut, penyusunan rencana kegiatan masyarakat (RKM), hingga pelaksanaan dan ekspos RKM. Program ini diterapkan di 12 desa yang tersebar di empat kabupaten di Sumatera Utara. Aktivitas melibatkan pengembangan ekonomi berbasis lokal seperti budidaya tanaman dan ternak, produksi kerajinan, serta peningkatan kapasitas masyarakat. Tahapan program DMPG dilaksanakan secara bersamaan dan berkesinambungan dengan melibatkan seluruh lapisan masyarakat serta mendapat pendampingan dari Universitas Negeri Medan serta di monitoring oleh delegasi Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan. Di akhir program, dilakukan evaluasi untuk mengukur dampaknya terhadap kualitas lingkungan lahan gambut serta peningkatan ekonomi masyarakat di 12 desa sasaran. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kualitas lingkungan sekitar ekosistem gambut serta pertumbuhan ekonomi lokal. Selain itu, program ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya pelestarian gambut dan menciptakan model kolaborasi yang efektif antara perguruan tinggi, pemerintah, dan masyarakat. Berdasarkan survey yang dilakukan kepada 12 desa, Dari segi peningkatan kualitas lingkungan sekitar lahan gambut, 10 desa menyatakan program DMPG ini sangat bermanfaat dalam meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan sekitar lahan gambut, dan 2 desa menyatakan bermanfaat. Dari segi peningkatan ekonomi masyarakat, 8 desa menyatakan sangat bermanfaat bagi peningkatan ekonomi masyarakat dan 4 desa menyatakan bermanfaat. Program DMPG memiliki manfaat Hal ini menegaskan pentingnya pendekatan terintegrasi untuk memulihkan fungsi ekologis gambut dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat sekitar.

Abstract

Abstract: Sansevieria Trivasciata (snake tongue) is a traditional medicinal plant known to contain various bioactive compounds. This study aims to identify secondary metabolite content and characterize Sansevieria leaf crude extract. Plant samples were obtained from Aekbolon village, North Sumatra, and have undergone a taxonomic identification process. The crude extract was prepared by drying and grinding the leaves. The characterization results showed a water content of 8.5% and a water-soluble extract content of 23.85%, which is in accordance with the quality standards of crude extracts according to the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Extraction was carried out using a maceration method using 96% ethanol for three consecutive days. The resulting thick extract was then tested qualitatively to detect secondary metabolites. The screening results showed the presence of allkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and steroids, while tannins were not detected. These findings indicate that Sansevieria has potential as a source of natural active ingredients for the development of herbal medicines. Keywords: Sansevieria Trivasciata, Phytochemical Screening, Secondary Metabolites Abstrak: Sansevieria Trivasciata (lidah mertua) merupakan tanaman obat tradisional yang diketahui mengandung berbagai senyawa bioaktif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kandungan metabolit sekunder serta melakukan karakterisasi simplisia daun Sansevieria. Sampel tanaman diperoleh dari desa Aekbolon, Sumatera Utara, dan telah melalui proses identifikasi taksonomi. Simplisia disiapkan melalui proses pengeringan dan penghalusan daun. Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan kadar air sebesar 8,5% dan kadar sari larut dalam air sebesar 23,85%, yang sesuai dengan standar kualitas simplisia menurut Farmakope Herbal Indonesia. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan etanol 96% selama tiga hari berturut-turut. Ekstrak kental yang diperoleh kemudian diuji secara kualitatif untuk mendeteksi metabolit sekunder. Hasil skrining menunjukkan adanya senyawa allkaloid, flavanoid, saponin, dan steroid, sedangkan tanin tidak terdeteksi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Sansevieria memiliki potensi sebagai sumber bahan aktif alami untuk pengembangan obat herbal. Kata kunci: Sansevieria Trivasciata, Skrining Fitokimia, Metabolit Sekunder

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri senyawa aktif antibakteri dari daun Gagatan Harimau (Vitis gracilis BL) terhadap bakteri Bacillus cereus dan Salmonella enterica. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol, diikuti dengan fraksinasi menggunakan n-heksana etil asetat dan etanol. Aktivitas antibakteri diuji menggunakan metode difusi cakram dan mikrodilusi untuk menentukan Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) serta Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga fraksi menunjukkan aktifitas antibakteri yang di tunjukkan adanya zona hambat oleh bakteri b. cereus dan s. enterica. Dari hasil Analisis GC-MS mengidentifikasi senyawa aktif utama yang bertanggung jawab terhadap aktivitas antibakteri adalah Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, dan phytol.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kelayakan, respons siswa, serta peningkatan literasi sains siswa melalui penggunaan E-LKPD berbasis Liveworksheets dengan model inkuiri terbimbing pada materi asam-basa. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development) yang mengadaptasi model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Subjek uji coba dalam penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa kelas XI-1 di MAS Insan Kesuma Madani. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan meliputi lembar wawancara, angket validasi ahli, angket respons siswa, serta instrumen tes literasi sains berupa soal pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) tingkat kelayakan E-LKPD berdasarkan penilaian validator ahli materi dan ahli media memperoleh persentase rata-rata sebesar 84,72% dengan kriteria “Sangat Layak”; (2) respons siswa terhadap penggunaan E-LKPD memperoleh persentase rata-rata sebesar 91,58% dengan kriteria “Sangat Baik”; (3) dan peningkatan kemampuan literasi sains siswa berdasarkan uji N-Gain memperoleh skor 0,79 dengan kriteria “Tinggi”. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa E-LKPD berbasis Liveworksheets dengan model inkuiri terbimbing yang dikembangkan sangat layak, mendapatkan respons yang sangat baik, dan secara signifikan mampu meningkatkan literasi sains siswa. Development of E-LKPD Based on Liveworksheets with a Guided Inquiry Model to Improve Students' Science Literacy on Acid-Base Material  This study aims to determine the level of feasibility, student responses, and improvement of students' scientific literacy through the use of Liveworksheets-based E-LKPD with a guided inquiry model on acid-base material. This type of research is research and development (R&D) which adapts the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The trial subjects in this study were 20 students of grade XI-1 at MAS Insan Kesuma Madani. Data collection instruments used included interview sheets, expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and scientific literacy test instruments in the form of pretest and posttest questions. The results of the study showed that: (1) the level of feasibility of E-LKPD based on the assessment of material expert and media expert validators obtained an average percentage of 84.72% with the criteria of "Very Feasible"; (2) student responses to the use of E-LKPD obtained an average percentage of 91.58% with the criteria of "Very Good"; (3) and the increase in students' scientific literacy skills based on the N-Gain test obtained a score of 0.79 with the criteria of "High". Thus, it can be concluded that the Liveworksheets-based E-LKPD with the guided inquiry model developed is very feasible, gets a very good response, and is significantly able to increase students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on student learning outcomes and science process skills in thermochemistry material. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population was grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Silaen. Sampling was conducted using a random sampling technique, resulting in class XI-2 with 35 students as the experimental class implementing the Problem Based Learning model, and class XI-3 with 35 students as the control class using conventional learning. The results showed that the mean score of learning outcomes in the experimental class was 82.86 and the control class was 76.57. The hypothesis test showed >  (3.859 > 1.667), indicating a significant effect of the problem based learning model on student learning outcomes in thermochemistry material. The average science process skills of the experimental class reached 82.46% categorized as very good, higher than the control class at 78.06% categorized as good. Correlation analysis using the product moment correlation obtained  of 0.717, indicating a strong correlation between science process skills and learning outcomes, with a coefficient of determination of 51.44%. Thus, the problem based learning model is proven to effectively improve student learning outcomes and science process skills significantly in thermochemistry material.
