Abstract

Language writing errors are something that often happens. Especially for language learners. In Indonesia, English is a foreign language. This makes language learning feel a little difficult in writing. Lexical errors are mistakes related to the vocabulary of a language. These errors can be broadly defined as deviations from the standard usage of words, which result in incorrect or unclear expressions. This research is an analysis of 6th semester English language education students at Muhammadiyah University, Tangerang. The student writing that is studied is the result of the writing contained in the foreword section of the student's paper assignment. There were 15 students who were used as a sample for analysis this time. The results show that there are four out of seven types of lexical errors in students' writing. These are errors in choosing words (60%), collocation errors (13%), redundancy errors (20%), and spelling errors (7%).

Abstract

In the era of globalization, cross-cultural understanding plays a crucial role in fostering mutual comprehension and tolerance among people worldwide. The International Community Service Program (KKN Internasional), participated in by students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang (UMT), aims to introduce Indonesian culture to elementary school students in Thailand through traditional Indonesian Independence Day games. This program employs an interactive and enjoyable approach to ensure the effective reception of Indonesian culture. The method involves the active participation of students in various competitions such as water relay, rocking chair, and sarong race. The results indicate that Thai students demonstrate greater enthusiasm and a better understanding of Indonesian culture through direct experience compared to conventional methods. Additionally, this program provides valuable experiences for students in enhancing cross-cultural communication skills, understanding the Thai education system, and strengthening Indonesia-Thailand bilateral relations through cultural diplomacy. This initiative serves as a model for similar programs in other countries, promoting international relations through cultural exchange.

Abstract

This activity aims to provide education to instil environmental awareness and caring character in elementary school students. The method used in this research is participatory qualitative, involving all school members, including students, teachers, parents, or guardians, through integrative thematic activities with an environmental theme. Specifically, the target participants in this activity were upper-grade students (grades 4-6), totalling 86 students. The instruments used in this study included observation guidelines, documentation guidelines, and student perception questionnaires. The research results indicate that the forms of education that can be implemented consist of three types of activities: (1) integrating the green school concept into the curriculum, (2) developing environmental care character through school habituation, and (3) establishing collaboration between the school and various stakeholders. Overall, the results of these community service activities show that the implementation of environmental education in schools, both through curriculum integration, daily habits, and support from the school's social environment, has a positive impact on the formation of environmentally conscious character in students. It is suggested that schools strengthen the implementation of environmental education within the green school program in an integrated and sustainable manner through learning, habituation, and cross-sector partnerships.

Abstract

Abstract:  This community service initiative was carried out with the aim of raising parental awareness in supporting English language learning as an international language through the active involvement of students in educational campaign activities. The programme formed part of a student exchange initiative undertaken by Indonesian university students at Lukmanulhakeem School, Yaha, Yala Province, Southern Thailand. The service project was conducted over a two-month period, from 12 November 2024 to 7 January 2025, and was implemented through four strategic stages: initial coordination with teaching staff, mobilising parental support, conducting intensive language learning activities within the school environment, and reinforcing family engagement in the learning process. The outcomes of the programme revealed that collaboration among schools, families, and students played a significant role in enhancing pupils’ English language proficiency. Although some parents had limited proficiency in English, their participation in campaign activities such as the Family English Challenge and English for Life Simulation positively contributed to students' motivation and confidence in communication. Thus, a socially and educationally driven approach to language learning proved effective in fostering 21st-century competencies, particularly cross-cultural communication skills, in areas with limited access to foreign language education.

Abstract

The limited academic attention to the ideological dimensions of diasporic poetry—particularly the works of Indonesian diaspora poets—reveals a critical gap in contemporary literary studies. This research aims to explore how poetry functions not only as an artistic expression but also as an ideological medium that articulates hybrid identities, intergenerational trauma, and resistance to dominant narratives. Using a qualitative descriptive method and a Thematic Discourse Analysis approach, this study examines how the anthology Fire Is Not A Country by Cynthia Dewi Oka constructs ideological meaning through poetic language, literary devices, and narrative structure. The analysis focuses on eight selected poems that highlight recurring themes such as identity, family, migration, and trauma, which are intricately intertwined in representing the complexity of diasporic subjectivity and critiquing hegemonic socio-political structures. The findings indicate that Oka’s lyrical strategies effectively infiltrate and challenge dominant ideologies—such as nationalism, patriarchal family expectations, and assimilationist pressures—while offering a counter-discourse that empowers marginalized communities through cultural articulation and collective healing.
