Abstract

Free radicals are highly reactive compounds because they have unpaired electrons so that they can interact with body cell molecules, this can cause various diseases. Antioxidants are compounds that can ward off free radicals. Plants of the genus Mangifera are known to have antioxidant activity, one of which is Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm, a typical plant of South Kalimantan known as tandui. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of the leaves of tandui (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) using the DPPH test method. Phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity tests were performed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The compounds contained in the methanol extract of tandui leaves (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) are phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. The IC50 value of quercetin obtained was 2.39 ppm and the IC50 value of the tandui leaf methanol extract (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) which was obtained was 8.222 ppm. Tandui leaf methanol extract has very strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a pathological condition characterized by the invasion of microorganisms, namely bacteria and viruses, into the respiratory tract of human individuals. The misuse of antibiotics can result in the development of antibiotic resistance. The objective of this study is to assess the appropriate patient selection and dosage determination as well as investigate the correlation between patient selection and dosage of ARI antibiotics in toddlers attending the North Banjarbaru Health Center. The present study is a retrospective, non‐experimental investigation that examined patient medical records from January to April 2023. The sample consisted of 184 individuals who satisfied the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. According to the findings of the research, the utilization of ARI antibiotics was characterized by the prevalence of Cotrimoxazol 85 (46.19%), followed by Amoxicillin 67 (36.41%), and Cefadroxil 32 (17.40%). The patients were evaluated accurately in 184 cases, representing 100% of the total. The correct dosage was administered in 155 instances, accounting for 84.2% of the total, while an incorrect dosage was administered in 29 cases, representing 15.8% of the total. The statistical analysis using the Mann‐Whitney test indicated that there was no significant relationship between the appropriate patient selection and the correct dosage administration, as evidenced by a p‐value greater than 0.05 (p = 1.000). The study findings indicated a lack of correlation between the appropriate patient selection and the correct dosage of ARI antibiotics administered to toddlers at the North Banjarbaru Health Center.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells or impaired insulin function. Compliance with taking medication is very important to achieve therapeutic success and prevent complications by providing education using leaflets so as to increase understanding of treatment instructions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving leaflets on the level of medication adherence and blood glucose levels during (BGLD) in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus at the Guntung Manggis Health Center. This study used a quasi-experimental design method with a pretest-posttest duo grub approach using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. Sampling was taken prospectively with a total of 88 patients divided into 2 intervention and control groups. There were differences in the level of adherence to taking medication before being given the leaflet as many as 26 respondents were in the adherent category and increased to 43 respondents after being given the leaflet. The results of the study obtained an average value of BGLD before being given a leaflet of 281 mg/dL and after being given a leaflet of 262 mg/dL. The statistical test results showed that there was an effect of giving leaflets on adherence to taking medication in patients with type-2 DM at the Guntung Manggis Health Center with a p-value of 0.001 <0.05 and a BLD value of 0.000 <0.05

Abstract

The most effective therapeutic management in schizophrenia patients is antipsychotic therapy. Antipsychotic groups are divided into two categories: first-generation and second-generation antipsychotics. Antipsychotic administration can cause side effects such as extrapyramidal symptoms. This study aims to determine the effect of giving a combination of antipsychotics on the side effects of extrapyramidal syndrome in hospitalized schizophrenia patients at Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital. This study employed a non-experimental observational analytic approach with prospective data collection. The study population consisted of all schizophrenia patients who were hospitalized between January and February 2022. The sample size was 122 patient medical records, obtained through purposive sampling. The instruments used to measure the variables included respondent characteristics (age, gender, latest education, occupation, marital status, history of diagnosis, and history of extrapyramidal syndrome) and the incidence of extrapyramidal syndrome side effects, which were documented in essays written by the researcher. The data analysis employed univariate (frequency, percentage) and bivariate (chi-square test) techniques. The results of the study yielded a description of the administration of antipsychotic combinations in hospitalized schizophrenia patients at Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital. The most prevalent combination was the Atypical-Typical combination, which was administered to 58.2% of patients. There were no instances of extrapyramidal syndrome side effects from the administration of a combination of antipsychotics, with 86.9% of patients experiencing no adverse effects. The administration of a combination of antipsychotics does not appear to affect the incidence of extrapyramidal syndrome in schizophrenic patients.

Abstract

Hypertension is recognised as a primary risk factor for the development of heart failure. Hypertension exerts an increased workload on the heart, thereby impeding its capacity to circulate blood throughout the body. The treatment of hypertension necessitates adherence to regular medication in order to regulate blood pressure and mitigate the risk of organ damage. The objective of this study is to ascertain the discrepancy in medication adherence levels subsequent to the provision of a pillbox device in comparison to patients who did not receive the pillbox device. Additionally, the study seeks to examine the correlation between adherence levels and blood pressure reduction. This study was a prospective pre-experimental study conducted from April to June 2022, involving 76 patients divided into two groups: the treatment group (given a pillbox) and the control group, each consisting of 38 patients. The analysis of the data was conducted utilising the SPSS software, employing the Mann-Whitney U test and the chi-square test. The findings demonstrated that 29 patients (76.31%) in the treatment group exhibited adherence to medication, in contrast to 10 patients (26.31%) in the control group. The mean blood pressure measurements in the treatment group before and after the intervention were 160/95 mmHg and 142/88 mmHg, respectively, compared to the control group, which had measurements of 151/86 mmHg and 144/79 mmHg before and after the intervention. Conclusion: A significant discrepancy in medication adherence was observed between patients who utilised the pillbox and those who did not (p-value = 0.000), and a substantial association was identified between medication adherence and blood pressure reduction following the administration of the pillbox (p-value = 0.001).

Abstract

Self-medication is a condition where patients buy drugs without doctor's prescription for common complaints such as fever, pain, dizziness, cough, influenza, ulcers, diarrhea and several skin diseases. Advances in digital technology have influenced various aspects of life including medical services, one of which is the CERDIK application. This study aims to determine respondent satisfaction in using the application and relationship with sociodemographics of the respondents. The method used is non-experimental descriptive on questionnaire in 84 respondents. The results show a very high level of satisfaction with this application. The respondents showed 83 sample (99%) felt very satisfied and only one sample felt quite satisfied with the CERDIK application. The average value of respondent satisfaction overall reached 95%. Furthermore, there is a relationship between sociodemographics including gender, ages, educations and professions with satisfaction using the CERDIK. This shows the application is very helpful for patients in obtaining information about self-medication drugs
