Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sustainability level of the coconut farming system in Indragiri Hilir Regency using a multistakeholder approach and the SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture Systems) framework. The analysis covers four sustainability dimensions: economic, environmental, social, and governance. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs) involving various stakeholders such as farmers, traders, cooperatives, village governments, and related government agencies. The results show that the social dimension has the highest sustainability score (4.26; categorized as "good"), followed by governance (3.60; "fair"), environment (3.08; "moderate"), and economy (2.52; "poor"). Stakeholder mapping using the power–interest grid indicates that farmers have high interest but low influence, while agricultural offices and cooperatives have high influence. These findings form the basis for recommendations on collaborative strategies to enhance the sustainabilityof the coconut farming system.

Abstract

Oil palm productivity on smallholder farms remains low despite several interventions to transform agriculture, especially in developing countries. Farmers in rural areas face serious constraints that limit their oil palm production capacity. Smallholders have unprofitable access to markets which in turn makes their business less profitable. Therefore, this study analyzes oil palm productivity of smallholders in Seberida Village. A random sample of 50 oil palm smallholders was selected. The normalized translog productivity function was then calculated through one-step estimation of technical efficiency and its determinants using STATA software. The results showed that fertilizer cost and land area were positive factors that drove profits. Complementarity between resources was a very important determinant of profits. The study concluded that land area and farmers’ resources had a positive effect on oil palm production. Farming profits increased with the increase in land area. Therefore, this study recommends that policies that support commercialization of smallholders will increase agricultural profits.

Abstract

This study will look at trends in FFB prices, CPO prices, currency rates, and CPO exports. Then, we'll look at how FFB pricing, CPO prices, and exchange rates affect CPO exports. Both quantitative and descriptive analysis are the analytical techniques employed. Time Series data for the years 2014–2024 comprise the secondary data used in this study. Data sources for this study include the Riau Province Central Statistics Agency, Indonesian Palm Oil Farmers Association (APKASINDO), the Riau Province Plantation Service. The Error Correction Model (ECM) analysis approach was utilized. The study's findings indicate that: (1) CPO export growth, FFB prices, CPO prices, and exchange rates all have a tendency to vary annually. (2) Both in the short and long run, CPO exports are positively and significantly impacted by the FFB price and CPO pricing variables. (3) Both in the short and long term, CPO exports are positively impacted by the exchange rate variable, though not significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the elements influencing land use transformation in Pantai Raja Village, Perhentian Raja District, Kampar Regency. The study aims to assess the effects of land function transition on community welfare. This study aims to assess the positive and negative impacts of alterations in land function. The study used a mixed-method approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative techniques to gather more comprehensive, valid, reliable, and objective data. The study comprised forty individuals, each possessing one to ten years of farming experience, with the snowball sampling method employed to ascertain the location. The study's results indicate a transition in land use from rubber agrosilviculture (Hevea brasiliensis) to oil palm agrosilviculture (Elaeis guineensis). The market price of rubber has significantly decreased from Rp 20,000 per kilogram to Rp 4,000 per kilogram. These alterations impact individuals' quality of life and their comfort levels. Weather, pricing, and agricultural practices are among the factors influencing land conversion. In Pantai Raja Village, Perhentian Raja District, Kampar Regency, the transition from rubber agriculture to oil palm production has resulted in significantly favorable outcomes, despite adverse impacts including a reduction in productive time. A reduction in burden, an augmentation of held assets, and an enhancement in family wellbeing are observed by farmers
